All of May Trek Across America & California are self paced programs that allow individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. The program is based on the honor system and is a year round program. Prizes Spring 5k Run/ Walk are given when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If Wednesday, May 8, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your Location: El Segundo Track mileage to the USA Trek but prizes will start from Amarillo, Texas. Wednesday, May 8, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Location: Bldg. 272, C2- 201/202 California Transition Assistance Program (CalTAP) is a program designed to inform and connect veterans and their families, of all eras, to their earned federal and state benefits. As well as provide continued support and assistance as their needs change over time. Presentations provided by California Veteran Affairs office, topic of presentations include state benefits, state educational benefits, calvet home loan program, employment preference and resources, and small business resources. After presentations are complete there will be one on one appointments with a California Veteran Affairs representative.

Transition GPS (Goals, Plans, Success)

May 13-17, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Location: Bldg. 272, C2-201/202 Transition GPS is mandatory for all separating and retiring military members. The five-day format covers a broad range of topics from financial planning to job search, plus VA benefits. Pre-separation counseling is mandatory before attending Transition GPS. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend.

Senior Transition GPS

May 20-24, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Location: Bldg. 272, C2-201/202 This five-day transition workshop is for military members who are retiring after 20 years of service.

This is a 6 week certification course for parents who have children that require an IEP. Nichole will be graduating in June from San Pedro High School with a 4.1 GPA. Nichole has been a member of the Youth Program since her arrival here 3 years ago. She is active in the program and has been a dedicated volunteer during numerous Youth Program Special Events, Community Service Activities and is a regular tutor for youth in the program. She served as a program tour guide during our Raytheon Fill the Pack Open House event and participated in our Raytheon Girls’ STEM Day in February. Ongoing Programs School Age Care 2018 (Ages 5-12)

Before and After School Programs provide age-appropriate child care with quality programming, youth activities and events. Clubs, activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are offered. Transportation to and from select schools is available. The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and development of social awareness and problem solving skills. The staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School Age Program.

Open Recreation Program (Ages 9-18)

This program provides recreational options for all dependents of active duty, retired military, DoD employees, and contractors living on base under a Tierra Vista lease contract. Youth must have current

membership and be between 9-18 years of age. Community service programs, clubs, and classes are offered with focus on recreational activities, cognitive challenges, and team building. $30 per year

Transportation Program (Ages 9-18)

Youth Program members are eligible for transportation to and from select schools: Leland Elementary, Point Fermin Elementary, White Point Elementary, Dana Middle School, and Port of Los Angeles High School. Upon return, registered youth may enjoy our Open Recreation Program, or go directly home. $50 per week *Note: Participation in the transportation program does not automatically register youth for after school activities. Youth must be enrolled in Open Recreation and other programming separately.

Did You Know? Individuals taking care of someone else’s children in base quarters on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week must be licensed. Residents of base housing who knowingly provide unlicensed child care are in danger of losing their base housing privileges. The care in FCC is provided in the home of individuals licensed under AFI 34144 guidelines. These licensed child care providers must complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of orientation, be certified in CPR/First Aid, complete AF child care training modules, obtain liability insurance and have their home meet fire prevention, health and safety guidelines. Please contact the FCC office for further details.
