Trek Across America & California
All of June Trek Across America & California are self paced programs that allow individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. The program is based on the honor system and is a year round program. There are worksheets located in a folder by the front desk at the El Segundo and Fort MacArthur Fitness Centers to keep track of your mileage. Prizes are given when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your mileage to the USA Trek but prizes will start from Amarillo, Texas. Modes of travel can be achieved through the following exercises: Treadmill, Bike, Stepper, Cross Trainer, Rower & Run/Walk

Camp the Sequoias (Ages 10+) Friday, July 13 - Sunday, July 15 Explore one of the most beautiful, unique, and revered areas of California... Grant Grove and Sequoia National Parks! After arriving at the park and taking in the sights we will take a NPS led 1.5 hour tour into the depths of Crystal Cave, a large marble karst cave. After camping out under the stars at Grant Grove Campground, we will explore and visit some of the astonishing Grant Grove, home to some of the largest and oldest trees in the world. Before heading back to LA we will cruise the breathtaking General’s Highway, stopping for a quick stop at Moro Rock, a large granite dome. Sleeping with the Fishes (Ages 7+) Wednesday, July 25 Bring the whole family and join Outdoor Rec for a once in a lifetime opportunity... Sleeping with the fishes at the Aquarium of the Pacific! Participants will have a chance to stroll around the aquarium, learn about the adaptations that some fish have developed to survive in the Pacific, and camp out overnight in front of one of the large display tanks (TBD)! A pizza dinner and a continental breakfast are included. Sleeping bags and sleeping pads are available on a limited basis (free of charge) and will be reserved for you at time of registration. Children must be at least 7 years old to participate. All children must be accompanied by a designated guardian for the duration of the event.

Tae Kwon Do Instruction (Ages 6 and older)
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. Location: Fort MacArthur Fitness Center Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art, which focuses on hand and foot techniques that neutralize attacks and provide a means of protecting both yourself and your loved ones. The practice and employment of these techniques is governed by the Five Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. The program is “Family Style” meaning that it is open to males and females, children and adults, from 6 years old and up. New students are accepted continuously. Individuals taking care of someone else’s children in base quarters on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week must be licensed. Residents of base housing who knowingly provide unlicensed child care are in danger of losing their base housing privileges. The care in FCC is provided in the home of individuals licensed under AFI 34-144 guidelines.
These licensed child care providers must complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of orientation, be certified in CPR/ First Aid, complete AF child care training modules, obtain liability insurance and have their home meet fire prevention, health and safety guidelines. Please contact the FCC office for further details.
