16 Fused Glass Workshop In this workshop participants will get a clear ‘blank’ glass plate and will get to decorate it using glass shards of varying sizes and colors using either a stencil or freehanded. All creations will be picked up after heat curing.

Trek Across America & California

All of July Trek Across America & California are self paced programs that allow individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. The program is based on the honor system and is a year round program. There are worksheets located in a folder by the front desk at the El Segundo and Fort MacArthur Fitness Centers to keep track of your mileage. Prizes are given when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your mileage to the USA Trek but prizes will start from Amarillo, Texas. Modes of travel can be achieved through the following exercises: Treadmill, Bike, Stepper, Cross Trainer, Rower & Run/Walk

The five-day format covers a broad range of topics from financial planning to job search, plus VA benefits. Pre-separation counseling is mandatory before attending Transition GPS. Location: CRAFTED in San Pedro In this workshop participants will get a clear ‘blank’ glass plate and will get to decorate it using glass shards of varying sizes and colors using either a stencil or freehanded. All creations will be picked up after heat curing.

Location: Deane Dana Friendship Park, San Pedro This interactive class geared towards children ages 5 and under will include interactive naturalist activities that will help children discover nature through hikes, stories, songs & age appropriate crafts. After a brief introduction participants will have the opportunity to get up close with a tiny owl.

Camp the Sequoias (Ages 10+) Friday, July 13 - Sunday, July 15 Explore one of the most beautiful, unique, and revered areas of California... Grant Grove and Sequoia National Parks! After arriving at the park and taking in the sights we will take a NPS led 1.5 hour tour into the depths of Crystal Cave, a large marble karst cave. After camping out under the stars at Grant Grove Campground, we will explore and visit some of the astonishing Grant Grove, home to some of the largest and oldest trees in the world. Before heading back to LA we will cruise the breathtaking General’s Highway, stopping for a quick stop at Moro Rock, a large granite dome. All camping equipment, participation, meals (except on the road) and transportation are included. PHASE

Sleeping with the Fishes (Ages 7+) Wednesday, July 25 Bring the whole family and join Outdoor Rec for a once in a lifetime opportunity... Sleeping with the fishes at the Aquarium of the Pacific! Participants will have a chance to stroll around the aquarium, learn about the adaptations that some fish have developed to survive in the Pacific, and camp out overnight in front of one of the large display tanks (TBD)! A pizza dinner and a continental breakfast are included. Sleeping bags and sleeping pads are available on a limited basis (free of charge) and will be reserved for you at time of registration. Children must be at least 7 years old to participate. All children must be accompanied by a designated guardian for the duration of the event. PHASE

Enjoy a week long camp to develop basic soccer skills, an understanding of rules and terminology of the game, as well as developing teamwork and good sportsmanship. Plans for each day include a daily warm-up and team building activity, working on specific skills, and small side games. Instructors may be collegiate soccer players and US Soccer Federation/ NSCAA certified coaches.

Join Youth Programs to learn fundamental skills to practice archery. Explore the sport in a fun, games style environment. National certified archery instructors will help you learn basics that could translate into Olympic Recurve or Competitive Archery.

Transportation Program (Ages 9-18)

School Age Care 2018 Summer Camp (Ages 5-12) Before and After School Programs provide age-appropriate child care with quality programming, youth activities and events. Clubs, Activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are offered. Transportation to and from select schools is available. The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and development of social awareness and problem solving skills. The staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School Age Program. Open Recreation Program (Ages 9-18)

This program provides recreational options for all dependents of active duty, retired military, DoD employees, and contractors living on base under a Tierra Vista lease contract. Youth must have current membership and be between 9-18 years of age. Community service programs, clubs, and classes are offered with focus on recreational activities, cognitive challenges, and team building. $30 per year 22

Youth Program members are eligible for transportation to and from select schools: Leland Elementary, Point Fermin Elementary, White Point Elementary, Dana Middle School, and Port of Los Angeles High School. Upon return, registered youth may enjoy our Open Recreation Program, or go directly home. $50 per week *Note: Participation in the transportation program does not automatically register youth for after school activities. Youth must be enrolled in Open Recreation and other programming separately.

Congressional Award Opportunities

The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all 14 to 23 year-olds. Participants earn Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Certificates & Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas: Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. California Science Center King Tuts Exhibit (Ages 9-18) Friday, July 20, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Fee (cost per person): $15 | Membership Required Registration deadline: July 17 (permission slips required) Join Open Recreation and see the IMAX theater presentation to see the amazing King Tut Exhibit before it returns to Egypt permanently. Youth Karate (Ages 5-14) Will resume on September 10 Join in the fun, learn the fundamentals of Karate with Sensei Jerome. Youth 8 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. Tae Kwon Do Instruction (Ages 6 and older) Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. Location: Fort MacArthur Fitness Center Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art, which focuses on hand and foot techniques that neutralize attacks and provide a means of protecting both yourself and your loved ones. The practice and employment of these techniques is governed by the Five Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. The program is “Family Style” meaning that it is open to males and females, children and adults, from 6 years old and up. New students are accepted continuously. Individuals taking care of someone else’s children in base quarters on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week must be licensed. Residents of base housing who knowingly provide unlicensed child care are in danger of losing their base housing privileges. The care in FCC is provided in the home of individuals licensed under AFI 34-144 guidelines. These licensed child care providers must complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of orientation, be certified in CPR/First Aid, complete AF child care training modules, obtain liability insurance and have their home meet fire prevention, health and safety guidelines.
