Los Angeles Air Force Base will host the 2019 Education Fair on Thursday, 25 July 2019. This no cost event will be held in the Gordon Conference Center (GCC).

All of July Trek Across America & California are self paced programs that allow individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. The program is based on the honor system and is a year round program. Prizes Patriotic 5k Walk/Run are given when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If Wednesday, July 10, 7a.m. - 8 a.m. you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your Location: El Segundo Track mileage to the USA Trek but prizes will start from Amarillo, Texas. Transition GPS (Goals, Plans, Success)
July 8-12, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Location: Bldg. 272, C2-201/202 Transition GPS is mandatory for all separating and retiring military members. The five-day format covers a broad range of topics from financial planning to job search, plus VA benefits. Pre-separation counseling is mandatory before attending Transition GPS. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend.

Hang 10! We will be traveling to Hermosa Beach to participate in this week long surf camp taught by three certified professionals put on by CampSurf! Come hang on the beach as we learn the fundamentals of surfing and learn to love and respect the ocean. The practice and employment of these techniques is governed by the Five Tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. The program is “Family Style” meaning that it is open to males and females, children and adults, from 6 years old and up. New students are accepted continuously. Ongoing School Age Care 2019 (Ages 5-12)
Before and After School Programs provide age-appropriate child care with quality programming, youth activities and events. Clubs, activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are offered. Transportation to and from select schools is available. The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and development of social awareness and problem solving skills. The staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School Age Program.

Fine Arts Program (Ages 9-18) Mondays, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Explore your inner creativity and learn new skills. Smart Girls (Ages 9-12) Monday, July 22, 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. Learn “Smart Girl” skills to be the best you can be! Permission slips are required to participate in classes.
Healthy Lifestyles Cooking (Ages 9-18) Fridays, 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Come enjoy learning new skills in the kitchen when cooking and eating with friends. Youth are encouraged to bring in recipes from their family favorites, or from cultural family traditions. Parents are always welcome and encouraged to share their culinary skills with the team.
Torch Club (Ages 9-12) Tuesdays, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. (No Torch on July 30) Torch Club encourages community service, individual growth, and companionship. Join us weekly to become greater than yourself! Keystone Club & Teen Council Meeting (Ages 13-18)

Thursdays, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Are you interested in learning to play the guitar, & drums? Join us on Thursdays to learn some new skills. Guitars are provided during lesson, but students are encouraged to bring their own so they can practice at home.

Thursday, July 11, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Location: CDC, El Segundo Families are encouraged to be a part of the Parent Advisory Board. If your child/ youth participates in School Age Program, Open Recreation, Home School Club, or Explorer Club, we invite you to be a part of the discussion.

Transportation Program (Ages 9-18)
Youth Program members are eligible for transportation to and from select schools: Leland Elementary, Point Fermin Elementary, White Point Elementary, Dana Middle School, and Port of Los Angeles High School. Upon return, registered youth may enjoy our Open Recreation Program, or go directly home. $50 per week *Note: Participation in the transportation program does not automatically register youth for after school activities. Youth must be enrolled in Open Recreation and other programming separately.
Did you know the Youth Center offers a Tae Kwon Do class twice a week from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. for only $40 per month! Call the program for more details!
Congressional Award Opportunities
The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all 14 to 23 year-olds. Participants earn Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Certificates & Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas: Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. We offer individual and group, age appropriate educational activities that stimulate social, cognitive and emotional growth for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Individuals taking care of someone else’s children in base quarters on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week must be licensed. Residents of base housing who knowingly provide unlicensed child care are in danger of losing their base housing privileges. The care in FCC is provided in the home of individuals licensed under AFI 34-144 guidelines. These licensed child care providers must complete (at a minimum) 24 hours of orientation, be certified in CPR/First Aid, complete AF child care training modules, obtain liability insurance and have their home meet fire prevention, health and safety guidelines.
