The training is also for Key Spouses who have become a Key Spouse Mentor.

Transition Workshop (3 days)

August 14 - 16 | September 11 - 13 • 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The three day format covers a broad range of topics from financial planning to job search to a VA benefits briefing. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend. This workshop is mandatory for all separating members, highly recommended for retiring military members.

DOL Employment Track (2 days)

August 22 - 23 | September 21 - 22 • 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

This new workshop is part of the Transition Program. It is a monthly workshop where Transitioning Service Members, Spouses, Retirees and Veterans can build a resume for a civilian or a federal job and learn interview techniques, salary negotiations and labor market information.

DoD Education Track (2 days)

August 8 - 9 | 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Transitioning Service Members, Spouses, Retirees and Veterans can learn about education resources available. This is a quarterly workshop part of the Transition Assistance Program (TAP).

DOL Career and Credential Exploration Track (2 days)

September 19 - 20 | 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

This is a great new workshop part of the Transition Assistance Program (TAP). It is a monthly workshop where Transitioning Service Members, Spouses, Retirees and Veterans can build a resume for a civilian or a federal job and learn interview techniques, salary negotiations and labor market information.

EFMP Family Support plays a critical role in helping families with special needs with the Identification & Enrollment and Assignment Coordination processes.

The Military and Family Life Counseling Program is here for you during the coronavirus disease pandemic. We now offer telephone and video non-medical counseling in addition to face-to-face non-medical counseling.

Who is eligible?

Free and confidential non-medical counseling is available to service members, Department of Defense expeditionary civilians, their families and survivors. Child and youth behavioral counselors are available to support children and youth up to age 18. They also offer guidance to families, staff and support personnel.

Outdoor Recreation is your one-stop center for year-round Southern California outdoor fun and adventure. Our experienced staff are devoted to bringing you exciting recreation opportunities, a wide variety of equipment rentals, guided adventures and discount tickets to area attractions.

You can’t ask for more in one afternoon of whitewater rafting on the Kern River. That night will be spent camping along the Kern River where ODR will prepare dinner for you!

Family Beach Day

Saturday, August 19

Join Outdoor Rec at Cabrillo Beach and bring the family to enjoy a nice beach day. Outdoor Rec will haul paddle boards and kayak (single and doubles available) equipment down to Cabrillo beach for you and set you with everything you need. Let us know what time you would like to reserve the rentals and we will have everything ready for you at the beach when you arrive!

Glass Bottom Boat

Thursday, August 31 - Sunday, September 3

Join ODR this Labor Day weekend for one of our most exciting adventures to date!

We will have the opportunity to learn the basics of kayaking over 3 days within the Sequoia National Forest. After class each day, we will head back to Campground 9 to camp out under the stars. Meals, equipment, and transportation are provided.

Saturday, September 16

Grab the kiddos and join us at King Harbor (Redondo Beach) for a 1-hr ride on "The Looking Glass" Glass Bottom Boat! After quick stop by the Sea Lion Barge, head below deck and check out some of our local marine life up-close and personal! While you won't find Nemo, you will get up-close looks at smelt, Opal Eyes, Garibaldi, Calico Bass, Striped Sand Bass, and more!

Trek Across America & California

Trek Across America & California are self-paced programs that allow individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. These year-round programs are based on an honor system. Worksheets are located in a folder by the front desk at the El Segundo and Fort MacArthur Fitness Centers to keep track of your mileage. Prizes are awarded when you reach highlighted landmarks along the map. If you participate in the Trek across California, you can transfer your mileage to the USA Trek starting from Amarillo, Texas. Modes of travel can be achieved through the following exercises: Treadmill, Bike, Stepper, Cross Trainer, Rower & Run/Walk.

September Fitness Challenge: Stationary Bike

1000 lbs. and 500 lbs. Club

Purpose: The purpose of the 1000 lbs. and 500 lbs. clubs is to acknowledge the physical achievement and dedication to training of Los Angeles Air Force Base Personnel.

Overview: To become a "member" of the club, one must perform one repetition of a Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift. After all 3 lifts are successfully completed, the total weight lifted is added up. To be a member of the 500 lb. club (women only), the total weight lifted must 500 lbs or greater. To be a member of the 1000 lb. club (open), the total weight lifted must be 1000 lbs or greater. All lifts must occur on the same day within a 60 minute time period under the guidance of the fitness center staff. Rankings will be developed by total pound for pound strength (total weight lifted/total body weight).

How to participate: Set-up an appointment with our staff at either El Segundo or Ft. MacArthur who will act as judges and spotters for your lifts. This challenge is ongoing and can be completed anytime during the year and you may re-test at any time as well.

School Age Care Program

Before and After School Program provides age-appropriate childcare with quality programming, youth activities and events. Clubs, Activities, and USDA approved meals and snacks are offered. Transportation to and from select schools is offered based on availability. The summer program will have weekly themes and field trips. The program focuses on team building, cognitive growth, and development of social awareness and problemsolving skills. The staff offers homework support to youth enrolled in the School Age Program. Youth & Teen Program

(Ages 9-18)

This program provides recreational options for dependents of active duty, retired military, DoD employees, contractors, or residents living on base under a Tierra Vista lease contract. Youth must have current membership and be between 9-18 years of age. A current shot record is required when registering. Community service programs, clubs, and classes are offered with focus on positive socialization, recreational activities, cognitive challenges, and team-building skills.

Congressional Award Opportunities

The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all 14 to 23-year-olds. Participants earn Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Certificates & Bronze, Silver, & Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas: Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. A 14-session program that focuses on specific aspects of manhood through interactive activities. Open to boys ages 9 to 18 who are Youth Programs Members.
