January 9 • 8 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Bldg. 272, Room C2-205 Newcomers are briefed on the exciting world of the Air Force, Space Force and the cutting-edge technology of SSC. Newcomers will be provided with informational and mandatory briefings in an interactive way!

First Officer Duty Station

Thursday, December 14 | January 11 • 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Learn budgetary basics, saving tips, and how to survive in this high cost area. This is a mandatory class for all O1 & O2 who are new to Los Angeles AFB. All military and civilians may attend.

Transition Workshop (3 days)

December 11 - 13 | January 8 - 10 • 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. The three day format covers a broad range of topics from financial planning to job search to a VA benefits briefing. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend. This workshop is mandatory for all separating members, highly recommended for retiring military members.

Pre-Separation Counseling

Monday, December 4 & 18 | January 16 1 p.m. - 3 p.m Are you separating or retiring from military service? Fulfill your Initial Counseling and Pre-separation briefing requirement at this mandatory briefing preferably 18 months before separating and 24 months prior to retiring, but mandated NLT 365 days before leaving the service.

December 19 - 20 | January 16 - 17 • 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. This new workshop is part of the Transition Program. It is a monthly workshop where Transitioning Service Members, Spouses, Retirees and Veterans can build a resume for a civilian or a federal job and learn interview techniques, salary negotiations and labor market information.

Managing Your Move

Thursday, January 18 • 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Get good advice on planning your next PCS from the clinic, traffic management and finance.

Trek Across America & California are self-paced programs that allow individuals to be rewarded when the goal is achieved. These year-round programs are based on an honor system. Worksheets are located in a folder by the front desk at the El Segundo and Fort MacArthur Fitness Centers to keep track of your mileage. 15 Minutes, Low-Moderate-High Intensity Challenge During the month of December, take part in a 15-minute, lowmoderate-high intensity challenge as we count down to 2024! 1000 lbs. & 500 lbs. Club Purpose: The purpose of the 1000 lbs. and 500 lbs. clubs is to acknowledge the physical achievement and dedication to training of Los Angeles Air Force Base Personnel. Overview: To become a "member" of the club, one must perform one repetition of a Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift. After all 3 lifts are successfully completed, the total weight lifted is added up. To be a member of the 500 lb. club (women only), the total weight lifted must 500 lbs or greater. To be a member of the 1000 lb. club (open), the total weight lifted must be 1000 lbs or greater. All lifts must occur on the same day within a 60 minute time period under the guidance of the fitness center staff. Rankings will be developed by total pound for pound strength (total weight lifted/total body weight). How to participate: Set-up an appointment with our staff at either El Segundo or Ft. MacArthur who will act as judges and spotters for your lifts. This challenge is ongoing and can be completed anytime during the year and you may re-test at any time as well.

Animal Shelter + Supply Drive + January 2 - 31 The Community Center is taking donations for the Harbor animal shelter located here in San Pedro. This shelter helps find homes for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, rabbits, and many more furry friends. Please drop off donations at the Community Center. Items needed: White vinegar, bird food, cat & dog treats, reptile supplies, aquatic turtle food, cat/dog/rabbit toys, guinea pig/hamster food, bandanas for photos, cat beds, pee pads, newspaper, pet waste bags, leashes & collars (all sizes), towels & blankets, & non-clumping cat litter.

YOUR SCHOOL LIAISON • Serves as the primary point of contact for school related matters

• Identify barriers to academic success and develop solutions

• Represents, informs, and assists Command

• Promote parental involvement, educate local communities and schools regarding the needs of military connected children

• Assists military families with educational issues • Coordinates with local school systems

• Coordinate and develop educational partnerships

• Forges partnerships between the military, community & schools

• Provide students, parents, and school personnel with the tools they need to overcome education barriers.

School Liaisons are also an initial contact for participation in the Youth Sponsorship Program which builds resilience in youth and eases transition. School Liaison support is f ree of charge and open to all Department of Defense identification card holders, educators who serve military students and community partners involved with pre-K-12 education.
