Lesson Plan 8 Grade: Topic: Objective(s):

One Christmas  Students are able to recognize and say the target words (Christmas, Santa Claus, reindeer, winter, and gift)

Materials Flashcards (Christmas, Santa Claus, Reindeer, Winter, and Gift), Christmas Slideshow, Color Construction Papers (Navy Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green), Christmas Shape Templates, Christmas Treats, Evaluation Chart

Procedures I. Introduction (10 minutes)  Show the students a couple of videos about Christmas. See YouTube links below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GhyKRVbEiU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikuqBEmPl10&feature=related  Ask the students to identify some characters in the videos. With the use of flashcards, guide the students to say the target words (Christmas, Santa Claus, reindeer, winter, and gift) II.    

 

Learning Activities (30 minutes) Explain Christmas traditions to the students with the use of Christmas slideshow. Watch the 2011 Christmas in Rockefeller Center show. Show the students the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Have the students make a Christmas tree in addition to the other Christmas items and characters. To make a Christmas tree, have students trace out their hands on green construction paper. They can then cut out both hands on the construction paper. Collect the paper hands and paste them together in the shape of a tree. Give the students various Christmas shape templates for them to trace out on various color construction papers. Help the students with cutting out those shapes and putting them together. Ask the students to cut out an ornament for the Christmas tree. Help them glue on their pictures on the ornament. Assemble all Christmas figure cutouts on the outside classroom wall.

III. Conclusion (5 minutes)  Review the Christmas terms with the students using the Christmas trivia game. Award the winners with some Christmas treats. 
