I am happy and hurt I wonder if I actually help anyone I hear people laughing I see a happy family I want to be an artist
I am happy and hurt I pretend I am famous I feel my aunt hugging me I touch her hands
I worry I will lose everything I cry for things I can’t control I am happy and hurt
I understand I can’t do everything I say it will be ok I dream for a day without pain I try to keep a smile on my face I hope my dreams come true I am happy and hurt
The Birth of Me
by Dionyae Mitchell
I am from board games and baking tools. From hair products and cell phones. I am from the messy bedrooms, comfy sofas, and the smell of sweets in the kitchen.
I am from the pile of sneakers in the living room.
I'm from crazy party planning and family movie nights. from a loving mother and a hardworking father. I'm from forgetting tasks and random conversations. and from unexpected screaming.
I'm from "babies are from babies r us" and "do you have
McDonald’s money?" and "it's not impossible unless you try.” I'm from early planned family trips. I'm from a hospital in Queens, Trinidad, sweet potato pie, and mac n' cheese.
From my mom flushing her cat and my uncle being bribed to help I am from childhood sibling photos on my phone but also in my heart.
