The Rezoning area is near Hsinchu Citys old district It’s the formal Air Force veteran village base, "Black Bat Squadron," which is famous for flying high altitude surveillance planes for the US during the Cold War The village they live in is like a camp, temporary and small, but it also creates bonding in the community.

Military Veteran Village.

Traditional military veteran villages are a collection of rooms crammed together, organic distortions that fit into the site, and interior layer upon layer that develop multiple environment rooms for various purposes.

Vertical Distortion

Layers of privacy and multiple ways to face the surroundings were also formed by repurposing military veteran village architecture characteristics into a vertical modern building. The distortion results in a village-like structure.

3 Type of Building typology to create various of facade difference as whole, the volume and balcony create each building of own non disturbance private outdoor space.

This housing project is a reference to the 1950 Taiwan military veteran village. The military veteran housing type has few specific details; unlike most housing at that time in Taiwan, the buildings are small and close to each other.

By connecting garden and alleyway that create 200 meters of circulate pedestrian route are also playgrounds.

we attempted to recreate a neighborhood where people could be connected rather than segregated into individuals. Courtyards and alleyways create a natural interior and playground in the village; owning a garden in a high-density city is nearly impossible.

The inner garden create shade protection from heat of Taiwan summer weather, and the opening also provide wind flow for the inner neighborhood.

This project use the volume change of facade to scatter sound interference, the building volume as sound proof system for urban traffic.

Material

The main material strategy for the community is glaze red brick tile. The glaze bricks create the touch and color of historical materiality. Use glass and hollow brick to create space continuity.

The open space for public and privacy are define by the house owner, the boundaries can be open and connected if need be, but Its necessary to define its own space.

Living scenery

The house create different type of space, connection with outdoor, balcony or backyard, it’s possible to gardening or picnic inside the house. The indoor activities can be also extend to outdoor.
