1 VERTICAL CHOREOGRAPHY
Is it possible to design a landscape project mainly from parametric design methodology which combines models making and site test?
Artlab ---- Vertical Choreography 竖直起舞 Chengwei Zhu, Stephanie Kumar, Charlie Allen In order to mediate between artificiality and nature, the design has worked on making organic design models and producing a new type of vertical garden – ‘vertical choreography’. This involves defining a new design methodology of parametric design. So that continuous modelling is not merely seen as a plug-in for design portfolio, but is integral to the generation of the design and the day to day activities of the building itself. That is, by embedding concept, site conditions and organic performances within structure and convoluted circulation processes, modelling plays as a main expression approach of whole design and construction. Started from the 1900’s, the designers prefer to show their design by drawings especially in china and other developing country while modelling is descend to dispensable part. However my research is going to explore the possibility to achieve a design mainly by modelling. A core component is a connecting generation of models built for concept formulation, techniques exploration, site combination and final construction, which works corroboratively and successively to support the whole project. I located my research on the design expression approach which is fixed since industrial revolution. What's more, modelling is used as the artificial, mechanical connotations of the term pattern; the word ‘choreography’ is a way to express a design of flow. It allowed us to work focus on the spatial condition and the material.

Modelling Technique 1: Tension Membrane
From model, the main property of tension membrane is infinite division.
Modelling Technique 2: Origami
The varying origami model is made from one simple piece of paper, one square modular and easy methods. The dynamic origami will help the concept model being instability.
Modelling Technique 3: Grid Shell At first, we all regard grid shell as the main structural support in concept model. However, what grid shell can do is much more than that. As shown in pictures, although it isn’t as dynamic as origami model, it can form amazing shape.

New Modular Model Layers Plants including Flowers and Vegetables
New Function: Vertical Garden
The model is also used as the planting pot. So flowers can be moved on the model.
Outer Layers: Silk Stocking
Inner Objects: Base Material for Planting
Except normal decorative flowers, vegetables can also be grown. First choice is the fastgrowing vegetables, like bean
sprouts. People can eat directly. S econd choice is other vegetables which may need a relatively long period to grow. All of them would be provided to students.
Inner Objects: Base Material for Growing Plants
Coconut fibre is the common-seen lightest base material. Every modular model is the container or pot for base material.
Fertilizer is another necessary material. As the container is covered with silk stocking, Solid fertilizer is better than other.
Normal mud can be mixed with other light material.
New Interpretation of Dynamic Model
As the site condition is been considered, the dynamic origami model is hard to release in “Introversion solution. Modelling Objects: 30-cm-long Irrigating Pipe
However, the same concept is transformed to pipes which can form hundreds of shapes. Then use the wooden support to fix the shape.
Structural Support: Wooden Support

2 GONE WITH THE WIND
How would a landscape project show the unique features of the site?
La Pavilion ---- Gone With The Wind 风中摇摆 Chengwei Zhu At Dockland, a red structure sites in public, that is made up of a series of aluminum strands, to show the performance of wind. Strips of aluminum are shaped and fixed on the site allowed to swing and move in the wind which is one of the features of
Dockland. The idea generates from a twoday’s experiment. After that two days, it developed by mapping and modeling. The color comes from the red wall on the site because the designer wants to merge some original impression with his design.

3 AGRO - FRAGMENT
HOW CAN FRAGMENTARY SPACES IN MELBOURNE CBD BE USED IN NEW URBAN FARMLAND DESIGN FOR RECONNECTION THE AGRICULTURE TO THE CITY LIFE, WHICH HELPS PEOPLE REDISCOVER THEIR FAMILIAR CITY AND FOOD?
New Urban Farmland ---- Agro - Fragment Chengwei Zhu City, as a growing element worldwide, lost in economic slowdown after 2008 and its impact has swept the globe following the globalization. Within this context, as a landscape architect, how to design the urban landscape when there is both opportunities and challenges? The design seeks to create a new design strategy to urban through utilization urban fragmentary spaces. There are a lot of fragmented spaces in city block available for landscape regardless of the density and scale of city. Those fragmentary spaces can be looked as the virgin territory. Agro-fragment is going to transform the fragmentary spaces from isolation to sociable urban farmland, which will then change the city façade by reconnecting the food and common life.
From one single production to supporting the whole city’s consume, there are many plans I have tried to create productive farmland in Melbourne CBD. However, like the city, the urban farm should also become multifunctional. Agro-fragment is a new model of urban farmland, which aims to innovate the city from the perspective of survivance as well as aesthetics, enjoyment, sociality and etc. The citizens would rediscover their city and food by this project.
Food, as Carolyn Steel said, once shaped our honourable cities is abandoned by the city itself. ‘One of the great ironies of modern food systems is that they’ve made the very thing they promised to make easier much harder.’ As the economy slowdown proves the failure of our modern model of city development, the re-connection to food is a viable option. Cuba has shown its potentiality. How will agriculture reshape our concrete forest? The first design method is productive urban farmland.

4 FARM SHIRE
Farmland urbanism is a design methodology that combines high density residential buildings with productive agricultural landscapes.
Farmland Urbanism ---- Farm Shire ç”° éƒĄ Chengwei Zhu, Angus Durkin, Liang Shan Farmland urbanism is an urban design methodology that combines high density housing and productive agricultural landscapes. The design process has been based around an ongoing exchange of knowledge and personal experience from both China and Australia. Farm shire is the result of applying the model to the small semi-urban town of Lara in Victoria. The master plan has developed through the consideration of several simplistic design principles which we have used to spatially organize the site. This methodology enables the concept to be applied to another place in another state or country. The design employs several systematic aspects that facilitate the construction and expansion of the development over a period of time. These include: a modular architecture system, which responds to an economic framework and prevailing population growth, additional, we have implemented an agricultural programme which is based on natural Ecosystem cycles.

Wang Wei Not knowing the way to the Temple of Heaped Fragrance, under miles of mountain-cloud I have wandered. Through ancient woods without a human track; But now on the height I hear a bell. A rillet sings over winding rocks. The sun is tempered by green pines.... And at twilight, close to an emptying pool, Thought can conquer the Passion-Dragon.

6 RU SHAN PLANNING
How would a tourism area be made under the new economy condition and serious official goals and tasks?
Tourism Area Planning ---- Ru Shan 乳 山 Chengwei Zhu Under the condition of the new background, the Ru Shan planning is to promote the development of Ru Shan tourism economy, to carry out Ru Sha “tourism cities” urban development strategy, to actively build “a mother’s love the holy land, happiness Ru Shan mountain” as the image of the city. Under the analysis of tourism resources and tourism market and the basis of comparative study, the planning is to rich cultural connotation of tourist area, adjust the structure of planning space and improve the quality of tourism products as the main planning content. This main idea of Ru Shan planning is to create a pleasant coastal landscape environment as the key point, with characteristic culture industry as the guide, with happiness to promote tourism development in an all-round way. Planning determines building a national 5 a-class tourist scenic spot as the goal; “Fu culture” as the core, “the lucky big health Ru Shan mountain” as the tourism theme image. “Happy life” is the project mainline, “Maternal love culture, health fitness, human harmony” is the three major planning Themes. Planning forms four big zone and nine functional partition on the general plan layout.
