MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT
How to measure a Croissant? When I was drawing the Croissant, some nice and clean photos of the Croissant were needed. Just like these photos on the right hind side. Then, I used 2B, 4B pencils, fineline pen to sketch the outlines of the Croissant on tracing papers. Some hatchings and shadings as well. For the bottom part and the inside structures of the Croissant, photos did not work this time. Therefore, I cutted the Croissant in half and chose one of them to divide into three pieces on average. Then, scanned each sections on scanner. After this step, I was able to trace the Croissant on tracing papers easily.

NEW MARIO WORLD
The making of new Mario world. In this 3D Mario World, the main thing that I tried to achieve was to make the whole work looked dynamic, active and reasonable. The way to make it dynamic was to add many floating boxes that did not appear on the original Mario pictures. The snail I drew showed this 3D world was active with characters. In order to make the world more reasonable, I used colors with different shade on each sides of the boxes, mountains (etc) to show there was sunshine from the right. The base of it was in the color of soil, which showed this world stand on the ground. When I was drawing the back part of the World, I had to reverse the 2D Mario picture and tried to imagine what the world looked like if we see it from behind.

The process of how I drew the latter part of the Mario World. I reversed the 2D pictures and tried to imagine what it looked like from the behind.
The combined world of two Mario pictures. The Mario World at the front did not hide the second one too much. Therefore, I did not need to erase many lines of the world behind.
The drawing of what I designed on the Mario World. In order to make the World dynamic, many floating boxes were put above.
Key tools when drew the axonometric. The drawing of the completed Mario World using fineline pens.

PAPER LANDSCAPE
The making of new landscape In this paper landscape, I considered about how to distribute the 2D and 3D panels. FInally, the 3D panels formed the shape of lips. In my point of view, the distribution of the 2D and 3D panels was quite successful and looked well-organised. Another aspect that was successful in my paper landscape was the undulations. The undulations of the landscape was seeable and even for the 2D surfaces.

Four photos that took from diferent directions of the paper landscape.

3D panels, in this step, I made all the 3D panels in Rhino and prepared to delete half of them in order to save places for 2D panels.
2D custom variable, this is a test for 2D panels. I drew the figure in Rhino, which was irregular.
Final vision of paper landscape in Rhino, for this step, I deleted half number of 3D panels and created 2D panels on the surface.
Glued panels, I unrolled 6 panels each time, therefore the whole work looked clean.
Unrolled panels. I unrolled those panels and printed them on A1 papers then guled them together.

INVISIBLE CITY
Olinda This city is named Olinda, which is extremely small and people need to use the magnifying glass to look through it. The Olinda changes each year and there is always a new city growths from the old one. The old city expands and then the whole Olinda just becomes larger from a grain of sand to a lemon. Therefore, in this project, I tried to show the differences between the new and old cities through two perspectives and diverse characters. The passage of time could also be seen from each background of perspectives and the iso.

Perspective1 “The Old Olinda“, In this scene, there are some elements like an-
tenna, garden(birds, trees and sculpture), pool, streamers, kiosks and horseracing ,which appear in the story. In this scene, people are walking around the pool and the garden. In the background of this scene, there is a shoe. I tried to use the shoe to highlight that the city is as small as a grain of sand.

Perspective2 “The New Olinda“, All
the elements that appear in scene1 are exist in this scene as well. For characters, those baby horses and baby are symbols of the new city, they represent the new life and there is a new Olinda

REFLECTION
Through these four projects and lectures, I understand the word “Representation “ better and know what does “Representation“mean for designing. I learned many professional skills of drawing like hatching, axonometric drawing, digital drawing and perspective. The six workshops provided me the knowledge of how to use softwares like Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Rhino, which are really helpful for my study. For module one, I am quite happy with the photos and drawings of sections. However, because of the lack of drawing skills, the hatchings of my sketches are not very successful. But this is also what I can improve in the future, after doing enough practices. For module two, this is the one that I think is the most successful. The digital drawing is working well and the whole composition looks good . For module three, the paper landscape is clean and successful. The thing that can be improved might be the variety of 3D panels. All of the 3D panels look quite similar and lack variety. The photos that I took last time can be improved as well, therefore, I made some changes this time. The photos become more detailed, clean and able to show the effects better. Module four is the most unsuccessful one and needs a lot of improvements. Hence, I drew the iso again and put more symbols to indicate the city. The two perspectives were amended as well. In order to make the roof and characters looked more unambiguous, I put them into Photoshop and made them brighter.
