W E LCOM E to the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center’s 2015-2016 season.

The Z is a storied place. It has had many lives over the decades and has inspired countless tales to blossom. Many of these stories are told on our stage through the world’s best performing artists. This season, we bring you tales told in many ways – from the nationally syndicated NPR story-telling hour, The Moth, to classic tales told through dance with The Moscow Festival Ballet’s “Cinderella” and Arlo Guthrie’s fantastically woven yarn that led to the classic song and album, “Alice’s Restaurant” – and more that you’ll discover as you read through this season’s brochure. But much of what makes The Z a storied place comes from your experiences here, and we want to hear about them! Will you share your story? Stories like love blossoming on a first date, of experiences throughout The Z’s historic past, or of rediscovering ethnic heritage and pride at a Fado performance. This season we will collect and share your compelling moments that describe our human connection, traditions, tales of the past and hopes for the future. And though there may be too many stories to be counted or measured, we are going to try. Join us this season and become part of the story. Tell us your untold story. “FAST, FURIOUS AND FUNNY! IN QUINN WE TRUST.” NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Wise-cracking comedian Colin Quinn comes to New Bedford fresh from his critically acclaimed tour-de-force one-man Broadway show “New York Story” directed by Jerry Seinfeld, and on the heels of a co-starring role in the Amy Schumer film “Trainwreck.” A native of Brooklyn, he began his stand-up career in New York as a regular on the comedy club circuit. On television, his affable perspective and everyman appeal won him a devoted following through his shows - MTV’s “Remote Control,” Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update,” and cult talk show “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.” In addition to his television work, he’s appeared in many films, including “A Night at the Roxbury,” “Comedian,” and Adam Sandler’s “Grown Ups.” NY1 praised this articulate comic as “infused with plenty of witty insights…even wisdom,” while the New York Times declared Quinn has a “knack for reducing the world’s intractable macro problems to matters of micro-egoism and macho one-upmanship.” 4

A Night with Janis Joplin is a musical journey celebrating Janis and her biggest musical influences - trailblazers like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith, who inspired one of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s greatest legends. Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The unmistakable voice filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. !

Join us as The Z continues our exploration of the Harlem Renaissance with our partner the New Bedford Historical Society, a local organization whose work celebrates the legacy of African Americans, Cape Verdeans and other people of color in the region. Activities TBD, please visit our website for schedule and details.

Starring the award-winning actress, singer, and dancer Jasmine Guy, and the acclaimed Avery Sharpe Jazz Trio, Raisin’ Cane celebrates and honors the legendary voices of the Harlem Renaissance through text, song, music, movement, and imagery. The words and thoughts of Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Zora Neale Hurston, W.E.B. Du Bois and many others, became the voice of a new generation of African-Americans looking forward but still struggling with the past and present. These thoughts, songs, and images are woven into a panoramic experience that spans this extraordinary outpouring of artistic endeavor that encapsulated the essence of 1920’s Harlem. Raisin’ Cane is a window to this critical point in American history, and its lasting impact on modern hearts and minds. TANIA DASILVA

BOHEMIAN QUARTET

Fado is a feeling, a sentiment, more than a set of notes. Embracing both traditional and contemporary styles of Portuguese Fado, fadista Tania Dasilva will take The Z stage for the first time this season, accompanied by guitarristas António Lima, Abel Lima and Pedro Pimentel. Tania’s performances in the USA, Portugal, and most recently at the International Portuguese Music Awards, capture the beauty of traditional Fado, influenced by well-known fadistas Amália Rodrigues and Maria de Nazaré.

A performance by the Bohemian Quartet is a door to another culture; their fast tempos, virtuosic playing, and the echoing of spry strings crying and dancing ensures a riveting experience. The group, Stan Renard on violin, Dave Zinno on upright bass, Christine Harrington on cello, and Nancy Richardson on viola, preserves the traditional playing of classic gypsy music. Together they’ve made a commitment to the genre, and aspire to perform it with both reverence and adventure.

PAUL RISHELL & ANNIE RAINES WITH MOJO RODEO

TICKETS: $20

TICKETS: $20

Guitarist Paul Rishell and harmonica player Annie Raines are among the most earnest and entertaining blues artists active today. You’re in for a treat as Paul, Annie and their band Mojo Rodeo perform acoustic gems and slow burning rockers in a wide range of blues styles, from the syncopated acoustic guitar wizardry of Blind Lemon Jefferson to Chicagoan “Little” Walter’s swinging amplified harmonica. “W.C. Handy Award-winners Rishell & Raines are rousing interpreters of country blues, the original acoustic style that gave birth to electric blues, R&B, and rock. While their guitar, harmonica, and vocals are roiling, muscular, and masterful, their shows are down home-friendly and fun-loving.” – Scott Alarik, BOSTON GLOBE TICKETS: $20
