Camping & Glamping
Eastern Halkidiki
Eastern Halkidiki
Eastern Halkidiki, Greece
Travelers chasing a challenge that is a opposite of comfortable lifestyles. We may find the most excitement by stripping holidays down to the essentials, or we may require a few extra creature comforts to make the trip just wonderful. But no matter what this trip requires, we call it camping.
For some, this statement drives every choice when planning for an adventure. You may have a backpack, a tent, some simple rations, a pair of sturdy boots, water and a sleeping bag or a hammock. For others, this may mean a few more amenities like clean drinking water and a hot shower at the end of a long day full of fun, adventure and time with family.
Maybe travelers don’t need to trek over summits and ravines to have a perfect time outdoors. They have a nice, comfortable tent big enough to stand in, a cooler and some camp chairs. For many, some degree of roughing it encapsulates the draw of the outdoors. The simplest of simple lives, the break from distractions and opportunity for to unplug and be in the moment make camping an ideal break from everyday life.
On the other hand, “glamping,” short for glamorous camping, has become a mainstay of outdoor recreation over the past decade. If your essentials list contains things such as a real mattress, running water or an actual toilet, you can still find numerous options that bridge the gap between traditional camping and the comforts of home.

With 300km of coastline, surrounded by 3 mountains, Eastern Halkidiki is blessed with great natural beauty, but it is not only about fantastic scenery. It is also a destination with great history and six unique points that can only be found in this area.
Which are they?
1. The ‘Holy Mountain’, is the only alive religious monument in the world, where the avaton law is still applied.
2. The area is also the birthplace of Aristotelis, the greater philosopher of Greek history.
3. The Canal of Xerxes, where Xerxes the King of Persians cut a canal across the peninsula for his ships to pass to Europe.
4. The traditional villages of the mountainous part.
5. The Byzantine Tower of Ouranoupolis the second highest and most well preserved in Macedonia. For more than 6 centuries it has standing as a guard at the center of the village.
6. The unique Zygou Monastery, the only sample of Mount Athos architecture visitable to women, just few meters out of Mount Athos borders.
Obviously this area is really historically unique, but the question is why is it an ideal vacation destination? Because it offers all the forms of tourism –summer and alternative. How?
It is a place which brings you so much closer to the wonders of the natural world and with 300km of coastline (the longest in Halkidiki) it is a fantastic all round holiday destination. There are so many beaches! 17 of them are certified by the Blue Flag Eco Label.

The southern side of the Eastern Halkidiki is a place of unique and unspoiled natural beauty. Mount Athos, which is referred as ‘Holy Mountain’, is inhabited only by monks, 2,200 of them in total. There are twenty Byzantine monasteries, twelve cloisters and eight hundred monk’s cells.
Each year about one million (1,000,000) visitors come to admire this spiritual centre of Orthodox Christianity, where for more than 1000 years, monks have maintained and followed the rules of life and religion of Byzantine times.
There are also dozens of pilgrimage routes out of it with historical importance.

The area is the birthplace of the greatest philosopher in Greek history, Aristotle, who taught life and science to the greatest commander of all time, Alexander the Great. It’s a great story, four thousand years old, that leads back to this place on the verdant sacred hill of Olympiada - very near the monastic state.
This is also where Persian King Xerxes constructed the above mentioned canal and the famous villages of Mademohoria for which I already informed you.
Every summer are organized exciting evenings of Greek culture to honor the Greek philosopher and there is a revival of ‘The Aristotelian’ events, one of the biggest and most famous cultural events in Greek history. Every night, at all the region’s beaches archeological sites, local ports and in every street, bands, theatre groups, actors, poets, singers, and many more artists celebrate the beauty of summer together.

CAMPING AND BUNGALOWS
The word is new, but the concept that «glamping» connotes, that of luxurious tent-living (or living in other camping accommodations), is not.
Glamping means the experience of luxurious accommodation in nature, in tourist accommodations in the countryside that are built in unplanned areas and include different types of accommodation in structures gently harmonized with the natural environment, combining high aesthetics and the provision of upgraded services.
Open spaces with a stay that combines unique experiences with Instagram moments. Treehouses, tents, mountainside retreats, converted buildings, anything at all that doesn’t look like a hotel but has the amenities and services of a hotel.
This is what glamping in Eastern Halkidiki offers!
