1-2 days: Land in Melbourne and spend a day or so here.
1 day: Melbourne to the Grampians 1 day: the Grampians to Mt Gambier
Halls Gap
Grampian Ranges The drive from Melbourne to Halls Gap takes 3 hours, so we could leave in the morning and arrive in time for lunch. I would suggest staying the night in the area (for example at the Grampians Chalet1 - 190AUD/night for 3 people).
Wonderland Ranges There are quite a few things to see Mackenzie Falls around here so I’d spend the next day here too and then drive on in the evening down to Mount Gambier, another 3 hours away and stay the night there. 4
1 day: Mt Gambier to Adelaide
1 day: Adelaide
Mt Gambier
Adelaide
Mt Lofty
Naracoorte Caves From Mt Gambier, I’d drive 1h15 to the Naracoorte Caves for one of the tours (Alexandra Cave, 30mins, 9.30AM / Victoria Fossil Cave, 60mins, 10.15AM / Blanche Cave + Bat Centre, 60mins, 11.30AM). 5
It’s then only a 3h30 drive up to Adelaide, where I suggest we spend the next two nights. Visit the city and maybe Mount Lofty 20 mins away...

Melrose
It’s a 3 hours drive from Adelaide to Melrose, through the Clare Valley (wine region). Melrose is situated at the southern tip of the Flinders National Park. Hawker is then under 2 hours inland from there. Close by is the Wilpena Pound Resort3.

Lake Eyre (Salt Lake) The only way to see the salt lake as far the outback to William Creek). as I can tell is to take the plane4... and that’s quite expensive. Although I did read somewhere that access by road is from the south on the Oodnadatta Track (google says that’s another 4 hours in 10
