PROJECT FOR THE NEW BAUAKADEMIE BERLIN, GERMANY
The following project concerns the reconstruction of an old building in Berlin: the Bauakademie, built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1832. The academy was located in an area of primary importance for the center of Berlin (now Berlin-Mitte area), very close to buildings of the highest prestige as the Berlin Castle. Semi-destroyed in the Second World War, it was demolished in 1962 by the DDR authorities. Since 2004, while waiting to find a definitive solution for the unbuilt area, a scaffold covered with a giant sheet reproduces all four facades of the academy, giving an idea of its urban role for the center of Berlin. The first need, coming from the historical importance of the ancient building, and therefore from the value of monumentum that spreads from it, consists of an aware reconstruction, respecting the plan and the volume of the original building, and paying attention to the conservation of an image codified in the historical memory. The second one, unavoidable from the activity of Architecture, corresponds to guarantee the full functionality of a building whose language is contemporary, without deleting the appearance of the destroyed one. Basing our project on these premises, the articulation of the functional program follows the logical disposition of the structural system. We kept the reconstructed corner of the building, as an example of materiality of the old building. The new project of the facade is composed of a precast concrete system, where the red colour of the bricks is vaguely recalled by a delicate pigmentation.

PROJECT FOR A PANORAMIC WALK NAPLES, ITALY
More than just a walk in contact with nature, it is a unique experience, characterized by a unique landscape and an infrastructure that does not interfere with the landscape but interacts with it. It is an unusual route, marked by a succession of ups and downs that allow you to fully experience the territory, offering breathtaking views between cliffs and native vegetation without altering the topography but rather preserving it. The only architectures present, positioned in strategic panoramic points, host entrance and infopoint functions, bars and small habitable shelters. The modules, whose dimensions have been established beforehand, have a limited impact on the environment through a system of non-invasive and completely reversible foundations, using sustainable and prefabricated materials. This creates direct contact, both physical and visual, with the environment, which can be experienced at 360 degrees both at night and during the day, both inside more private environments and outside immersed in nature.

MASTER THESIS NAPLES, ITALY
The watchword for the near future is “transform. More sensitive attitudes, capable of renewing the languages of contemporary architecture by re-evaluating the heritage of the already built produce new forms of intervention and regeneration, not only at the scale of the building but also at that of the city. There are no real methods of intervention, it is rather a question of refining attention, building new opportunities to enhance the urban context through interventions that have a strong identity. understanding the new functions and possible reuses is therefore strategic for the proper functioning of the project, which in effect becomes an integral part of the urban stratification, as a further layer that represents the era in which we live. UPGRADE is the key word that indicates the growth of urban centers for micro grafts. UPGRADE precisely because we work on the built and we process it by transforming the spaces, uses, dynamics and relationships with the context. Sustainable progress thus becomes the starting point and at the same time also the point of arrival, the final term to be aimed at at the moment in which we intervene on the built environment.Working on the building, adding, subtracting, modifying what is there, grafting new formal and volumetric vitality, has led to experimenting with different spatial, technological and material solutions for each building depending on the functions that it should host. The precise and precise knowledge of the object on which we are going to intervene allows absolute control of the project and the possible solutions more integrated with the structure and the urban context.

COWORKING & LABORATORIES
The building that will house the laboratories can be said to consist of two volumes: a first volume with a multi-storey flat roof and a second characterized by three naves and pitched roof. A first intervention involves the safety and consolidation of the original structure, proceeding with the replacement of the roof and the installation of new fixtures. Inside the building, detached from the facade and the roof, is placed a large “box of furniture, covered in oak, which houses the functions just added. The box makes it easier to carry out the various activities and store the necessary materials, while public spaces are created between the box and the original building. In order to make the most of the roofing, the project involves the construction of a steel walkway in the central nave, which connects not only the different boxes but also the multi-storey volume in which the services are located, a small exhibition hall on the ground floor and additional laboratories on the two upper floors.

THEATRE & MUSEUM
The building is the new cultural center of Corradini. The project transforms the space by introducing new public functions such as a concert hall, flexible performance spaces and an exhibition hall. The idea comes from the identity and character of the building, which currently has no roof. The characteristic element is the insertion of a box, this time in polycarbonate, which serves as a shelter to a space that remains open but covered. The performance of the polycarbonate allows the right comfort for the use of the space and characterizes both the new functions and the original structure through plays of light and transparency. The theatre is located inside the building and is connected to the exhibition hall by a system of monumental staircases in which services and warehouses are positioned. The building has an important urban component, which will give new impetus to a forgotten corner of the city. By positioning the main entrance towards the centre of the site and the secondary accesses on the sides, a lively public path is created, along which events can be organised and which serves as the external development of the internal functions.

FOOD & MARKET
The building for the market becomes a microcosm of diversity, a place of negotiation, of meeting between people and products, an important public space that immediately creates a variety of social functions and relationships. A prerequisite for the design of the covered market is the identification of a longitudinal axis that suggested the positioning of a modular system, with a flexible steel structure, that would allow the retail sale of the products and at the same time the sale of the cooked product. For this reason, the “stall has a dual feature: on one side only a counter for immediate sale, on the other side the same product is cooked and served to the customer. The modular structure invites the customer to walk through it as a whole, suggesting the development of the space and its practicability. The module is even simpler for the fruit and vegetable sale that takes place in one of the three buildings. The space of the covered market and the elements that characterize it are designed as reproducible even outside. For this reason, the building that currently has no roof is not renovated but considered as an external extension of the internal space, where fairs or festivals can take place.

GYMNASIUM & CLIMBING
Next to the cultural pole and connected to the park, the building seems perfect to host a sports pole, transforming the existing structure into an imposing wall for indoor climbing unique in its kind, adding to the recreational and tourist attractions of the new center of Corradini. The project involves the replacement of the roof and windows to allow the perfect use of the space, as well as the consolidation of the structure itself. At the entrance there is a small hall with a refreshment point; after the entrance, there are changing rooms (with a small storage room), a large climbing room and a small gym with a raised space for courses or other physical activities.

WINTERGARDEN & PRAYING ROOM
The pavilion for prayer and meditation is an integral part of the Corradini Park. Located on a small hill and surrounded by greenery, the building is characterized by two volumes whose characteristics have guided the design idea. The first volume is higher and characterized by a completely collapsed pitched roof, of which only the supporting frame remains, while the second is lower and with a flat roof, which also collapses. The project makes the rooms safe by replacing the roof only in the smaller building, creating a room for prayer. The roof is slightly raised by the block to allow the entry of a homogeneous and diffused beam of light whose effect is made continuous by vertical cuts on the walls. The largest block then becomes the pronaos of the worship room where, instead of the columns, there are trees to mark the path. A third block, detached from the previous ones, will house a small refreshment area and service areas for the park in front of it.

CASA ESPOSITO FADD ARCHITECTS
NAPLES, ITALY
The project concerns the renovation of an apartment in Posillipo, the most romantic and panoramic area of Naples. At my arrival, the renovation works were recently completed and it was necessary to define the elements of furniture that would have given the final touch to the project. The Rimadesio glass panel, together with the Poliform furnitures, marks the sequence of the functions; the grey resin floor keeps the environments together as a single open space. My role was thus researching design furnishings to produce moodboards for the clients’ approvation.

ARCHITECTURE PHOTOGRAPHY
“It’s part of the photographer’s job to see more intensely than he does not to do other people’s work. He must have and keep alive within himself something similar to receptivity of the child who looks at the world “for the first time or the traveler approaching an unknown country.” Bill Brandt
