Guatemala and the U.S. Update Agreement

Los gobiernos de Guatemala y Estados Unidos renovaron un acuerdo, para fortalecer la colaboración en temas de protección de los derechos laborales de guatemaltecos en ese país norteamericano.

El citado acuerdo abarca la información sobre leyes de seguridad y salud ocupacional, así como de salarios, horas de trabajo y otros asuntos laborales.

Compromiso

“Nuestro compromiso es garantizar que las personas que trabajan aquí en Estados Unidos conozcan las protecciones que ofrecen las leyes laborales”, expresó la subsecretaria de Trabajo de Estados Unidos, Julie Su.

Mientras, el embajador de Guatemala en Estados Unidos, Alfonso Quiñónez, indicó que “es una forma de garantizar los derechos a los migrantes”. Los gobiernos de Guatemala y Estados Unidos renovaron un acuerdo.

The governments of Guatemala and the United States recently ratified an agreement to strengthen collaboration on the protection of labor rights of Guatemalans in the U.S. The agreement covers information on occupational health and safety laws and wages, working hours, and other labor issues.

Commitment

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Julie Su stated, “our commitment is to guarantee that people are aware of the protections offered by labor laws.”

Meanwhile, Guatemala’s ambassador to the United States, Alfonso Quiñonez, indicated that “it is a way to guarantee the rights of migrants.”
