A la fecha, esta competencia se lleva a cabo en enero. Media Maratón de Cobán Se realizó por primera vez el 4 de mayo de 1975, en Cobán, Alta Verapaz. Destaca porque su re corrido exige rendimiento físico, ya que cuentan con varias subi das y bajadas. Actualmente par ticipan más de 8 mil corredores. Se realiza en mayo.

El maratón es una de las discipli nas deportivas más importantes en Guatemala. Además de ser uno de los atractivos turísticos por: los recorridos, los desafíos que presentan las carreras o simplemente por disfrutar de los hermosos paisajes del país.
