Motorcycles Built for the Road that Never Ends

HP

The High Performance

line of race-ready motorcycles represents the utmost in BMW Motorrad engineering. Introduced in 2006, the HP2 Enduro was a stripped-down, juicedup Boxer twin off-road monster that turned heads in the Baja 1000 and the Erzberg Rodeo. Now BMW’s commitment to breathtaking technology has evolved into two new, equally fearsome machines as we extend our HP2 line to the asphalt. These startling new motorcycles have the same combination of raw power, astonishing acceleration, high-tech braking, suspension components, and revolutionary design that have made the HP line synonymous with performance the world over.

HP2 Sport offers a broad power band even in sixth gear, pulling away from as low as 2500 rpm, delivering a peak 130 hp at 8750 rpm and keeping this all the way to rev limiter at 9500 rpm.

Champagne not Included. The HP2 Sport is our most revolutionary and powerful Boxer, with 130 hp. It’s the first production street bike with so many MotoGP features: gear-shift assist, billet top yokes, radial valves, new cylinder head technology with two overhead camshafts per cylinder, carbon fiber bodywork with carbon tail section, ultralight forged wheels, and even a GP style dashboard that computes lap times and other essential racing data. Add to this front Telelever and rear Paralever suspension with fully adjustable Ohlins shocks and you can brake later and harder into turns, and accelerate sooner and faster out of them. All of which almost guarantees stacks of podium finishes, but the champagne—that’s not included.

36000/3

Even this thoroughbred race machine, like all BMW motorcycles, gets BMW’s amazing 36000/3 year warranty. It’s only fitting that the best overall motorcycle warranty should go to the best motorcycles.

podium in its class and took second and third overall at the 2007 Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb. The only machine to best the Megamoto was a purpose-built Ron Wood race bike weighing half as much, piloted by the local racer Dave Durelle. HP2 Megamoto racer Gary Trachy took the BMW to second overall by lighting up the 12.4mile, 156-turn course in 11 minutes and 46 seconds averaging 63.23 mph.

The HP2 Megamoto packs 113 horsepower, even more than the notorious HP2 Enduro. It’s a power-to-weight ratio that leaps from the starting line on this most powerful supermoto in the world.

Primal Scream Therapy The HP2 Megamoto is the street HP2 Enduro. It’s armed with a 113 hp Boxer motor that spits out 85 ft-lb of torque with a dry weight of just 395 lbs. Inverted Marzocchi forks, Ohlins rear shock, and generous suspension travel make the HP2 Megamoto handle almost effortlessly. An Akrapovic exhaust adds just the right note, while Brembo brakes provide stopping power that in turn gives you the confidence to take full advantage of the bike’s acceleration and handling. Now you see why it won four out of the top five on the 2007 Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb.

Cycle World says, “the nicely tuned

suspension blesses the bike with fabulous riding qualities and incredible lean angles. BMW’s HP2 Megamoto is a terrific naked bike that rediscovers the never-out-of-fashion pleasure of pure, basic motorcycling. It’s worth every penny.”

Sport

Most sport bikes will go

insanely fast or tear through turns, at least in ideal weather conditions, in broad daylight and not too far from home. But for riders who want to broaden their horizons, the BMW stands alone as the most capable, intelligent alternative. Why? Agile handling, superb acceleration, solid torque, a broad power band (not at red-line, but where you can actually use it) plus genuine comfort and proven reliability. Add to that safety features like anti-lock brakes and innovations such as Telelever and Electronic Suspension Adjustment. All these give the BMW sport rider an edge once the road gets rough, the skies open up, or the sun goes down and thermometer starts to drop. Suddenly you find that your rides last for days instead of hours. Fear is replaced by confidence. Joy levels reach red-line.

ESA

176.789 mph was the average speed

achieved by Andy Sills on November 8, 2005 at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats. Sills set the FIM land speed record on a stock K 1200 S racing at 4000 feet on the iconic salt lake.

The K 1200 S was the first production motorcycle to offer Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA). ESA lets riders easily match suspension stiffness to riding conditions or load on the fly. ESA, which allows for nine distinct preload and dampening settings, is a must-have option on the K 1200 S.

None Shall Pass The K 1200 S at 167 hp is the fastest, most powerful BMW motorcycle ever created, but unlike other bikes with this much juice, it’s controllable and forgiving. Handling is rock solid thanks to the Duolever front suspension and optional Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA), and the ride is all-day comfortable thanks to an ergonomic riding position, excellent windshield and wind-tunneldesigned fairing. BMW ABS brakes bring all of a finger. No wonder the K 1200 S is the most advanced sport bike to ever scorch the salt at Bonneville.

Lightest Hypersport

It might seem hard to believe, but the awesome 167 ponies of the K 1200 S are put out by an engine as narrow as a 600 cc. The K 1200 S, the most technologically advanced production motorcycle, is also the lightest in the hypersport class.

Naked

Naked means simple.

Naked means daring. Naked means nothing gets in the way. On a BMW naked bike, the riding experience is pure and unrestrained. No matter where you’re headed, whether it’s blasting through city traffic or railing through mountain curves, these bikes unleash your inner spirit. With relaxed and upright ergonomics, tons of usable power and torque, technology like anti-lock brakes, plus the ability to toss on luggage and head for the horizon, BMW Naked bikes offer performance without pretension. Run ‘em lean and mean or dress ‘em up for the long haul—however you roll, the hard-charging attitude endures. For riders who like their bikes minimum but the thrills maximum, a BMW Naked bike opens up worlds of possibility.

163 HP The 163 hp power plant on the

magazine selected the K 1200 R as Motorcycle of the Year: “After reinventing the heart and soul of its motorcycle lineup in little more than a year, BMW clearly isn’t afraid of thinking outside the box. In fact, we’re pretty sure it scrapped the box entirely.”

A Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing Animal magnetism. Brute force. Bold intimidation. Whatever you want to call it, the K 1200 R has lots of it. Leading the charge is a snarling 163 hp, six-speed, inline-four cylinder engine with 94 ft-lb of torque. All that power and acceleration meets the road smoothly thanks to a precise Duolever front suspension. Optional ABS brakes and Electronic Suspension Adjustment make the all-attitude-all-the-time K 1200 R as refined as it is raw. No wonder “The World’s Most Powerful Naked Bike” dusted an entire class of superbikes at the ’06 Bandon Drag Races in Ireland.

What We Want

“Whether it be a stoplightto-stoplight drag or a romp down a twisty mountain road, this bike really shines. We can’t forget the most important thing— The power! This engine is unbelievable! It has power everywhere. Thanks again, BMW, for giving us more of what we want.” —Christopher J. Williams, K 1200 R owner

Naked

MOTY In 2005, Motorcyclist

K 1200 R is one of the most powerful engines ever put on a naked bike. This laterally mounted, 16-valve, watercooled new K series engine angles the cylinders forward by 55 degrees, lowering the center of gravity significantly. Inspired by Formula One technology, this high-powered engine has a narrow profile, close gear ratios, and precise six-gear shifting.

Rider magazine said

in a comparison to the Ducati Monster that “the Beemer, with its more spacious accommodations and technological edge, is more of an all-rounder that says, ‘We can go sport riding, we can go touring, we can run errands.’”

Make Rush Hour Even More of a Rush For those no-nonsense types who have nothing to prove, the supremely versatile R 1200 R is the perfect choice. Elegant looks mask a 109 hp Boxer motor and smooth Telelever suspension. The R 1200 R is a flexible roadster built to attack winding mountain roads, storm through the urban jungle or blast across the country. A reliable shaft drive, ergonomic ic Stability Control (ASC) add safety and comfort never before found on a standard bike. The result is a naked bike that begs to be ridden all day long and then some.

Telelever In 1994, BMW intro-

duced the radical Telelever anti-dive front suspension. This BMW-exclusive technology provides exceptionally smooth control, both in turns and in stops, by separating steering input from the damping function of the shocks.

Touring

True freedom on

a motorcycle isn’t just cruising around with the wind in your hair and a pipe rumbling in your ear. It’s being able to reliably go wherever you want, whenever you want, with confidence, comfort and style. And on a BMW touring motorcycle, freedom lies around every corner. Go ahead, ask most riders which bikes are the best for touring, and which bikes and which riders rack up not just tens of thousands, but hundreds of thousands of miles? The answer is invariably BMW. There’s a reason. With unheard-of comforts for both rider and passenger, ingenious cargo capacity, advanced safety features and obsessive engineering, BMW touring bikes win awards from the bike press around the world, year after year. No wonder they’re the only choice for motorcyclists who want to ride longer, go farther and discover more of the world than ever before. Freedom. A lot of people talk about it, but few ever really experience it.

Home is Wherever the Kickstand Lands Legendary twin-cylinder Boxer engine power and handling make the R 1200 RT a perennial favorite of touring-mad riders across the globe. With a low center of gravity and 110 stampeding horses as well as our famed Telelever suspension, the R 1200 RT offers startling speed and agility for a bike of its size, which is why it’s chosen by so many police departments around the world. An aerodynamic full fairing and power adjustable windshield render weather nearly irrelevant, while seven gallons of fuel and 144 liters of stowage space mean you can have it all and take it with you, too. Two-up or solo, the R 1200 RT is a tourer that flattens mountains, chases down dreams and redefines the feeling of free.

20 Long Years

Dual Sport

You could say we

know a thing or two about off-road adventuring. After all, we practically invented it with the GS almost thirty years ago. Now that domination on sand, gravel, dirt, and yes, even occasionally, pavement, reaches even more astounding levels. Never before have there been so many off-road oriented machines in our lineup, from planet-wandering tourers with transcontinental range to single cylinder rippers that haul you-know-what. If you’ve got dirt in your blood, there’s a BMW dual-sport with your number plate on it. Each bike features the same rugged build qualities that can withstand all day thrashings in the Outback or on the back forty. Whether it’s roost-throwing power, trench-digging torque, or tree-dodging handling, BMW’s legendary GS line offers utterly unstoppable off-road muscle.

Add a taller windshield, adjustable seat, 8.7-gallon fuel tank, extra wide foot pegs and optional ABS, and long days in the saddle are a breeze. Feasts on Pavement. Chews Dirt. Demands Seconds. Dirt or street, it hardly matters to the versatile R 1200 GS. This year, a 5% increase in power raises its output to 105 ponies for even quicker acceleration. Handling is precise thanks to a Telelever suspension system, and with Enduro ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), you can adjust both front and rear suspensions to Sport, Normal, Comfort and Offroad settings. The R 1200 GS also gets a few sporty new features like stainless steel knee covers on the gas tank, dynamic cylinder covers, an ergonomic aluminum handlebar and a more comfortable seat. The result? A bike that tames every road you throw at it and begs for more.

Tear it Up and Throw it Down Some riders want an off-road machine with a little less heft. Something street legal that they don’t have to throw into a pickup truck. Something that tears up roots, rocks and whatever else pops up. That something is the G  650  Xchallenge. Powered by a solid and torquey 53 hp single-cylinder motor and with the same break-through Continental rear air-shock as the stunning HP2 Enduro, the G  650  Xchallenge is the perfect dual sport ride, tried and tested in the U.S. Desert Racing series (USDR), Carolina’s Sandblast Rally, and even the Perry Mountain 24-hour Challenge. You can even snag one with switchable ABS, too.

Yoshio Ikemachi took the Xchallenge to victory in the brutal 10-day, 2237-mile BTOU rally in Mongolia. The top riders were seconds apart at the finsh, but Xchallenge proved the fastest machine, inspiring Ikemachi to dedicate the win to BMW.
