F 650/F 650 Dakar The F 650 GS and F 650 GS Dakar are the lightest and easiest-to-ride bikes in the BMW Enduro family. Their power is substantial but not alarming, and their manners are nimble and manageable. Ride them around town or across the country, on pavement or dirt, for business or pleasure. Their low seats and narrow cockpits make traffic a breeze, and their long-travel suspensions make rough terrain a mere formality.

The BMW GS: 25 Years of Adventure The adventure touring/big-bore enduro platform, a BMW invention, was launched in 1980 with the iconic R 80 G/S. The concept is simple yet breathtaking: motorcycles built with the power and comfort needed for long distance travel and the rugged design and long travel suspension to do it off-road. The concept, born a quarter century ago, is alive in the name G/S, from Gelande (terrain)/Strasse (street). The GS was immediately embraced by world-travelers and knee draggers alike, and is fast becoming BMW’s most successful model. Ride the GS and see why. Ride the web at www.bmwmotorcycles.com. GS Enduro

The HP stands for High Performance—and that’s what you get. The HP2 has the most horsepower of any Enduro out there, and when you pair that with feather-like weight, you get a pony-to-pound ratio that flat-out rips. Swoop through forests and scream across deserts—and with the optional sport road wheel kit (available mid-May) you can flick through canyons with surgical precision. Do it all on the HP2.

And the experts agree: Motorcyclist’s Best Open Class Street Bike, Cycle World’s Best Street Bike and voted Motorcycle of the Year by 15 international moto-journalists from around the world. How many bikes can do everything—and do everything well? One. The R 1200 GS.

Who knows? You have the power to go fast, the fuel capacity (8.7 gallons) to go far and the surefootedness to go pretty much anywhere. Paved tours, gravel adventures, mud detours; Mix it all up and come home with a beard.

BMW’s GS Enduros—Call them tools, weapons or your best friends. No matter where you go, these exceptional machines deliver the power, handling and comfort to keep going.

R 1200 GS

It’s called “The Best Bike in the World” because it’s a favorite among enthusiasts, adventurers and experts. No other motorcycle compares with the R 1200 GS in so many situations: weekday, weekend, highways, trails, around town or across the continent. Its 1170 cc Boxer engine pulls smoothly from first blip to over 7000 rpm, and it peaks at a breathtaking 100 horsepower. Couple this added oomph with a lean, agile chassis and you get the fastest, most capable R 1200 GS ever. Its Telelever front suspension provides nine preload settings, and its Paralever rear suspension uses position-sensitive damping to achieve both washboard-swallowing suppleness and big-hit firmness. So you get a smooth, pre-

cise ride on perfect roads and imperfect trails—whether you’re one-up, or two-up fully loaded. Every detail on the R 1200 GS is optimized for performance and comfort: A balance shaft eliminates engine vibration, the enclosed driveshaft delivers bomb-proof reliability, and alloy wheels handle nimbly yet withstand abuse. The new luggage rack easily accepts BMW’s adjustable bags, and a range of seat heights helps you find a perfect fit. Heated grips, a 5-angle windscreen and illuminated instruments let you focus on what’s ahead. On the R 1200 GS that could be just about anything.

R 1200 GS Adventure To create the world’s greatest long-distance Enduro, we started with the Boxer engine and the vagabond spirit of an R 1200 GS, then we added some…intention: like a mammoth 8.7-gallon fuel tank for a 450-mile range, another inch of suspension for random terrain, and knobby tires that devour pavement—but prefer heaps of dirt. The Adventure’s low-beam headlamp adjusts for different loads and terrain, and a headlamp cover (1) keeps the photons flowing even when your trail mates are roosting. With a stainless steel luggage rack (2) and optional touring cases that carry weeks of supplies, the R 1200 GS Adventure is ready for whatever you have in mind. The only question is, what do you intend?

Paved, Dirt or Worse: Now It’s All Yours Welcome To Our World

Engine (1)—The Boxer twin style engine has been powering BMW motorcycles since 1923. The two horizontally opposed cylinders fire out like a boxer’s glove—hence the name. The Boxer engine has a low center of gravity and excellent torque, and it has proven to be extremely durable. Telelever Front Suspension (2)—Standard telescopic forks tend to dive under braking, and as they go through their travel, the motorcycle’s steering angle changes. With Telelever suspension, the framemounted swing arm greatly reduces brake dive and keeps the steering angle constant throughout the travel. You enjoy more consistent handling in all situations.

features of a BMW. The Boxer engine carries its weight low and churns out 105 horsepower. The upside-down fork uses position-sensitive damping to absorb the harshest terrain, and the innovative air sprung and damped rear shock can be precisely tuned for any kind of riding. The handlebar pad (1) is mandatory for off-road action, and the sleek info screen is a decidedly BMW touch. On the street, the new optional sport wheel set (2) (available mid-May) provides the ultimate tarmac grip. A nice option for when you’re not hurling across Baja.

3 Paralever Rear Suspension (3)—In a standard shaft drive with one pivot on the frame, engine torque and braking forces make the rear suspension move up and down, upsetting handling. With BMW Paralever rear suspension, twin swing arms control the rotation of the rear drive, separating engine torque from braking and suspension forces. You get active, controlled suspension even when you’re accelerating and decelerating.

usable power, light handling and uncompromising reliability are the minimum requirements for survival. The 650 cc single cylinder engine pushes racers over dunes and propels commuters through traffic. The GS’s low seat height takes the worry out of city riding, and the new low price takes the worry out of your wallet. In Dakar trim, hand guards, a tall windscreen and longer-travel suspension prepare you for more adventurous rides. All instruments (1) are clean and easy to read. The redesigned luggage rack (2) accepts a top rack directly, and it gladly accepts tension straps. Bring whatever you need. You already have the right bike.
