Over 90 years ago, the first Riksteatern associations were founded, local repertoires were curated, and our touring began. Even if your community is small, your Riksteater association can still offer grand experiences. Close to you – no matter who you are or where you live. Each year, dedicated volunteers devote around 280,000 hours to bring theatre, dance, music, circus, and other performing arts to nearly half a million people. As an audience member, you get to experience it. As a member, you make it possible.

The stage for all of Sweden.
The people of Sweden are our audience. An audience that can become members of their local Riksteater association. Today, nearly 40,000 members in over 200 associations collectively form Riksteatern. Since 1933, our organisation has been built on passion and community. We are present in your area and travel across the entire country.
We create our own productions and present performing arts from others. We are passionate professionals, and we are engaged volunteers that work in our spare time.
An infrastructure for the performing arts.
We connect organisers with producers. We produce and arrange performances. We promote and develop dance, music, theatre, circus, and activities for children and young people. The dance company Cullberg is part of Riksteatern, and Riksteatern Crea is dedicated to producing performing arts in sign language. We are passionate individuals who continue to burn with the desire to organise, promote, and produce even more performing arts.

Riksteatern’s congress looks ahead!
The Riksteatern movement gathered for its congress in 2023 in Helsingborg. It marked a fresh start towards the future after four years dominated by a pandemic. Hundreds of delegates from Riksteatern’s local and regional branches elected the national board and set the course until the 2027 congress: A sustainable Riksteatern – a grassroots movement focused on passion and organizing performances.

Cullberg is one of Sweden’s leading touring dance companies, celebrated for its strong international reputation. We present choreographers from across the globe and produce high-calibre dance that resonates with the pulse of the contemporary world. Kristine Slettevold serves as Artistic Director. Cullberg is part of Riksteatern.
