NEW PLASTER HOUSE IN RANZO Ticino, Switzerland

EN

DE

PT

The house, overlooking the centre of the village of Ranzo, on the coast of Gambarogno, is located on a cliff immediately above the train line and provides a view of Lake Maggiore and the mountainous landscape.

The volume is based on a detailed outline and dispenses with any superfluous elements. On the one hand, this results in a modern minimalistic appearance and, on the other hand, the omnipresent exterior and interior use of a traditional cement and lime coating, in the spirit of local ancestral buildings, creates a rustic atmosphere, deeply rooted in local culture.

Thanks to this ambivalence, the house is somewhat exempt from a classification in time, bridging the gap between tradition and the modern era.

The natural stone pavement typical of the area, laid on the outside patio, also extends to the roof, creating a seamless transition with the identical sidewalk of the public pedestrian access leading from the house to the river beach.

The project responds to the acoustic issue presented by the train line by the lake by including light wells, adjacent to the rooms. On the one hand, these light wells provide acoustic insulation and, on the other hand, they reflect solar radiation to the rooms, thus enabling the creation of a self-enclosed mural volume with a poetic effect.

NEW CONCRETE HOUSE IN BRISSAGO Ticino, Switzerland

EN

A simply cut monolith in washed concrete, which is docked directly to the road, rises from the natural topography of the slope.

DE

PT

The visitor is guided down along a linear alleyway to the entrance door.

An entrance courtyard is located directly behind the wooden entrance gate.

Two cars are parked almost directly on the roof.

Across this courtyard one enters the house on the top floor and will be received by the kitchen with a long dining table and an open fireplace. Already when entering, the room open itself to the landscape, the “Lago Maggiore” and the mountains.

The entrance door and the glass front to the court can completely be shift into the wall, so that the outside and the interior space flows together in the summertime.

Lift and staircase lead to the lower floors.

Elevador e escadas proporcionam acesso aos pisos inferiores.

At the floor beneath is located the additional living area, with living room, fireplace, library and TV, as well as a covered outdoor terrace and a generous courtyard with natural stone pavement, two olive trees and a fountain.

Means wide openings to the court and to the outside, exterior and Interior, landscape and architecture forms a unity. The inside participates to the court, like the court participates to the landscape, offering spectacular views. The court can be closed by two wooden gates, which generate a secure feeling. This court becomes the heart of the house; different paths join together here, like in a historic village. On both sides of the court walkways and stairs lead down to the large garden terrace with swimming pool and outdoor kitchen. On the two lower floors of the house are placed three bedrooms and the baths, as well as fitness room and a sauna; they are also connected to the garden and swimming pool by appropriate exits. Due to its spatial diversity, complex relationships between interior and exterior spaces, diverse path choice, this house can be experienced like a historic village.

NEW CONCRETE HOUSE IN KLINGNAU Zurzach, Switzerland

EN

The house has an economical outer form due to its simple form without complicated incisions and projections and its almost square ground plan proportions. The excavation is limited to one storey height only. The house is turned slightly to the southwest towards the view of the historic village centre of Klingnau, and opens up towards the southwest on both floors with a fully glazed façade; a concrete filter façade in front of it simultaneously provides the interior with sun protection, reflective light and space-creating generosity. The facades on the north side are mainly closed, thus achieving an optimum energy balance. The existing topography is practically unchanged, which is ideal both economically and in terms of landscape architecture: the house stands like a fortress providing a sense of security on the slope above the steeply sloping rock face. From the car park at the eastern corner of the property, one passes through a naturally designed garden with old oak, green and paved or gravelled areas and enters the house on the upper floor via a wide, glazed entrance zone, from which the view of the valley is already open. The upper floor accommodates a spacious cloakroom and a guest toilet in a central room structuring block, the kitchen is set in the middle of the room, the dining area is attached to the central block by a bench and the living area can be furnished freely. The interiors have a light natural grey plastering; the entire outer shell is made of raw washed concrete, which is partly enriched with plants.

DE

PT
