about me...

As a blooming creative individual, I believe in all things colourful, to question how we as humans are and if design can meet or go beyond our expectations. I’m a firm believer of self-exploration to reach selfexpansion and to bud into the flowers that we are. education// Nottingham Trent University: BA (Hons) Furniture & Product Design

01. Sishe

concept.

(si.sh.)

SISHE is a free standing screen that balances the worries of visibility within a private setting. Sishe acts as a shield that comforts and adds ease while transitioning throughout the day. For optimal control, the human body is protected without shutting off all light from the outside world. This reduces having to turn on artificial lighting during the day and enriches confidence in your space.

As people transition from different activities throughout their day, it was important for the materials and the concept to share a bond. The divider simply has been designed to act as one with the user, while living within the circadian rhythm of the 24 hour timeline. As daylight is the start to the day, which can allow a user in their private setting to be visible from the outside world, this became two factors to generate a solution, thus the chosen materials to be compatible with.

construction of concept. Each divider board is cut into angular frames that has a 3mm groove. Each section is glued together to hold each section in place. The wheel display is held by three components :Nylon washer, Brass coated dile and axel.

=

Ash wood was chosen due to its properties that would align well with the design’s intent but also elluding a premuim feel with a hint of White Osmo oil stain, which would bring out the natural grain of the wood. Powder coated brass sheets highlighted the natural movement of the grain, which complimented the design’s functionality for the disks to transition from visibility to privacy.

Experimenting the concepts of form, pattern sequences and the balance between visibility and privacy, became the key ingredients to designing Sishe. These elements supported the functionality and purpose that blends together the chosen materials of the design.

development of design.

The design of the disks has two functions that consists of protecting the body from the outside world and allowing natural light to shine through. These two factors are important within the concept of Sishe, as its purpose is all about reducing the worries of the outside world having a glance of access to a space that is private to the individual. Through experimentation, the final design emits a balance of rays of light and shadows throughout the day as the wheel is turned from the dile. This feature provides a platform for the user to reduce or emit light throughout the day or night.

market research . purpose of design. Through research the average UK bedroom size can range from small to big, but what dictates the purpose of Sishe is the scale of the bedroom window. mood board of UK bedroom windows.

10//

The design is targeted to be placed in mediumsized bedrooms or open plan spaces, where large windows that can dictate the size of a room, can result in the inside world being visible to the outside world. Sishe simply protects the human body by giving back confidence to feel more comfortable in an intimate space, without reducing natural light; commonly used by blinds, shutters or curtains etc.

02. Sidelines context: Society has taught us from an early age on how to buy products, but failed on how to dispose of items on the same pressures of investing in items. As our possessions serves us well to the end of its life, 2 – 6% of the population don’t know how to manage their investments, which can lead to stress, hidden anxiety or perfectionism. Many more people have more disposable incomes to invest in, which can fundamentally lead to clutter.

1. Side-lines is a clutter-detector & storage system, that aides the user to manage and organise their important and valuable items in a accommodating procedure. 2. The design persuades the user to evaluate what items are important and what are not, to improve the placement of items that can be accessed in an orderly manner and to create a balance of providing a allocated resting places for effective storage and filing.

design: Sidelines is a design outcome of a clutter-detector & storage system unit. As clutter is an accumulation of items, which can be seen as a mild version of hoarding tendencies. The design aids the user to manage and organise their important and valuable items but most importantly, pushes the user to examine the value of their items.

sections:

C

Sidelines has been designed to live in the corner on a flat surface, predominately a desk, but has the handy option of being transported to a user’s preference. The design has been constructed into four sections, which each has its own meaning and process.

B

UX design principles has been the influence towards the action of how each section is used. The aim was to have one side of the design to be freely messy but as you go along the design, the user’s space, valuable materials and awareness is more managed and structured.

A

Sidelines is best suited as an E-commerce product, as the variations of desk organisers thrives more on the Ecommerce platforms than on the high street market.

section A Section A is a resting spot designed to hold valuable cluttered items that is recognised as a safe and retrivable resting space. Section A consists of a side holder with attatched leather straps, designed to hold the important flat items (A4-A3 papers). These items can comfortably be recognised as ‘valued clutter’. The limited space will probe the user to discard the invaluable items to prevent disorganisation and to adopt these healthier behaviours and actions.

section B Section B holds valued larger items and items from section A. This temporary resting spot is to encourage the user to evaluate the importance of their items. This aides to differentiate the expired but valued items compared to the valued items that are considered essential till its expiry use. The detachable saddle is great for stroing stationery items, which can be placd on the side, underneath or inside the tray.

16//

how it works.

section C Section C is a 350mm x 350mm x 85mm depth tray that stores the essential daily items that tends to linger on surfaces; resulting in limited valuable space. It’s a great way to hide items for a clearer desk space underneath the tray and has the option to place items on top of the tray cover.

section D Section D is the detachable leather planner booklet, designed to store limited valuable items, which resembles the manner of a wallet layout. The booklet provides easy navigation by inserting and replacing the essential everyday valuable items to or from section A to section D. The form of the booklet is synchronised to the side handle of the tray, providing ease of transporting the system. This design is perfect for hot desking or working from home.

Dating immersive Experience.

project year: 2

28//

concept.

T.for.Six is an immersive experience where the aspects of traditional Japanese dining and philosophy of Wabi Sabi is fused with Scandinavian design aesthetics to create an interactive furniture piece. The Japanese philosophy of wabi sabi, can translate as “...appreciating beauty that is ‘imperfect... in nature’,. - Koren (2008) T.for.Six accepts the reality of complexity (relationships), while also balancing simplicity (a card game based on questions). T.for.Six aims to re-shape dating by adopting the traditional route of meeting someone, while transformed as a social monthly event that is seen as an ‘ice-breaker‘.
