Restructuring of the 5 underground stations of the

Rouen tramway, France

Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France

Description This project aimed to renovate the primary infrastructure of the Rouen tramway network twenty-two years after its inauguration. The areas of intervention were its five underground stations, as well as a viaduct. The project’s programme consisted of five parts: the technical part, the aesthetic part, the urban furniture part, the artificial lighting part and the signaling part. The renovation of the five underground stations and of the viaduct would solve the technical and aesthetic problems that had emerged during the operation of the tramway network, in order to improve its image to its users. Creation of a collection area of port waste at the port of

Deauville, France

Deauville, Calvados, France

Description Following the adoption of a sustainable development approach, the General Council of Calvados wanted to optimise the collection of port waste of the port of Deauville. A previous study enabled to identify the needs in collection capacity and specify the collection equipment needed. The collection area was finally located on the Louis Breguet quay. This centralised implementation allowed the consolidation of the facilities used by the fishermen, avoiding the continuation of their dissemination in several locations. Furthermore, there was an effort to attribute architectural qualities to the design of the collection area so as to blend with its surroundings. Creation of a new shared-use rolling lift bridge on the hydraulic complex in

Saint-Savinien, France

Saint-Savinien, Charente-Maritime, France

Description The main focus of this project was the mapping of the architectural aspects of the hydraulic complex of Saint-Savinien, which was soon to make the object of a renovation campaign, in order to meet the new criteria of water management. Several solutions were proposed here in order to circumvent the technical degradations and the lack of compliance with the current safety regulations, as well as to propose architectural solutions for the adaptation of the infrastructure to new uses. These solutions had also to be consistent with the architectural and landscaping philosophy of the General Council of CharenteMaritime. Creation of the primary infrastructure of the new mixed-use zone of

Clausonnes in Antibes, France

Les Clausonnes, Alpes-Maritimes, France

Description This project was located between the planned mixed-use zone and the mediterranean forest of Clausonnes. This juxtaposition between the artificial architecture of the planned mixed-use zone and the natural topography of the forest led to the design of a project that reflects and enhances the characteristics of these two different entities, thus becoming a unitary project that functions as a common vocabulary. During the design of the bridges, which were the most important part of the project, it was also important to address their various structural elements as an organic whole. Creation of a viaduct on the new bypass motorway over the

Anille River, France

Saint-Calais, Sarthe, France

Description This project regarded the crossing of the valley of the Anille River and became part of the new bypass motorway of Saint-Calais. This project was intended to alleviate the other main road connections in central France of their traffic. Its primary aim was to preserve the configuration of the river and limit the impact on its wetlands, as well as the impact on the natural landscape. The solution that was chosen would limit the impact on the natural environment while preserving the transit movements of the fauna of the wider area. The project consisted of a double beam bridge divided in two identical spans, with an intermediate support consisting of two cylindrical columns, located on the island of the river. The deck was a mixed metal-concrete construction with a total length that was set at 120 metres. Landscaping of the slopes of the

Babeuf railway crossing in

Stains, France

Stains, Seine-Saint-Denis, France

Description The main objective of this landscaping project was the designing of a new green connection between the road crossing over the suburbam railway tracks and the planned urban fabric. This project took into consideration the volume, the urban layout, as well as the architectural and landscaping qualities of the public spaces to be created. The planted slope of the road crossing was transformed here into a landscaped descending park overlooking all the existing and planned developments. Particular attention was paid to the materials used for the surfaces of the pathways and the urban furniture that was proposed, in order to provide a sustainable and economic solution. The planted flower and shrub beds were chosen so as to mark the different public spaces, as well as the paths for the disabled and cyclists, which required the creation of gentle slopes. Masterplanning and landscaping of the port facilities of the in

ASTEN company

Gennevilliers, France

Gennevilliers, Hauts-de-Seine, France

Description The main purpose of this project was the architectural treatment and the landscaping of the boundaries of the parcel of the ASTEN company, located in Gennevilliers, the port of Paris. The health of the existing plants had been affected by the industrial activity and, as a byproduct, by the pollution that had infiltrated the plot’s soil. The replacement of at least one plant out of two, as well as the densification of the planted area was chosen as the most adequate solution. The proposed types of plants were native of the parisian basin and typical of the brownfields. The replacement of the external fences concerned only the eastern boundary of the plot, so as to have it meet the port regulations. Finally, the new warehouses that were created had trapezoid shaped facades composed of glass panels with bright colors. «Transilien» suburban railway station of

Sarcelles, France

Sarcelles, Val-d’Oise, France

Description The purpose of this comprehensive study of the area around the suburban station of Sarcelles - SaintBrice was to elaborate a plan whose aim would to be to enable urban coherence, facilitate intermodality and forge a sense of identity for this parisian suburb. The analysis consisted of three parts; an introductory part, the «Transitory Space» part and the «Permanent Space» part. In the first part the analysis consisted of a research of the current situation of the station in terms of traffic levels and frequencies, as well as in terms of governance, in a municipal and regional scale. In the following two parts there was an analysis of the existing situation and of the dynamics of the urban fabric around the station, with particular attention to the role that the station could play. Urban regeneration and landscaping of the market square in

Mamoudzou, Mayotte

Mamoudzou, Mayotte

Description One of the main objectives of this project was to solve the anarchic state of the parking area around the Mamoudzou market. The solution that was here proposed was to concentrate the parking lots in a landscaped car park. The whole project sought to synthesize different intentions relating to the regeneration of public spaces and the expansion of the market. Thus, in addition to the creation of the car park, the project integrated the expansion of the market, the development of a BRT line, the extension of the seaside promenade, as well as the regeneration of the nearby crossroads with the creation of a pedestrian square in front of the market. The challenge of this project was thus to articulate the landscaping, commercial and urban aspects at different scales in order to offer a comfortable and functioning space. Masterplanning in the Centre Essonne-Seine-Orge, France Évry, Essonne, France

Description The improvement of the liaison between the territories of the Centre Essonne-SeineOrge area is feasible, as well as of the performance of the suburban RER D rail line. In order to achieve this, the implementation of a new tram-train system operating on the already existing riverside branch of the RER D line, between the stations of Juvisy and Melun was chosen as the necessary solution. This also enables the creation of four new stations where several alternatives for the development of the area can be imagined. The case study chosen here was that of the Noues de Seine station. Suburban railway station & urban regeneration in the area of

Rouf, Athens, Greece

Rouf, Athens, Greece

Description The principal theme of this design thesis project was the creation of a metropolitan centre in the form of a suburban railway station in the district of Rouf in Athens, Greece, as well as the regeneration of the degraded surrounding area. The Rouf railway plot was located between the railway station of the Piraeus port and the Athens central railway station. The archaeological sites of the athenian centre were located at a distance of 1 kilometre and the mixeduse zone of Elaionas was located at a distance of 1.5 kilometres. The project attempted to combine the regional and urban scales with the architectural scale, by eliminating the barrier of the railway lines and by creating an elevated station.

Urban regeneration of the southern coastal front of the city of

Chalchis, Greece

Chalkis, Euboea, Greece

Description Unlike its northern coastal front, which is within the historical centre of the city of Chalchis, its southern coastal front was neglected because of the existence of an abandoned military camp. The urban regeneration plan of this 8-hectare area required the creation of a new neighbourhood with housing for 500 people, a nursery school, a multipurpose hall, shops and 4 hectares of green areas. The residential blocks were designed in such a way so as to be integrated into the historical urban fabric of the city of Chalchis, by extending the existing road axes from the north of the plot and by using the analogies and typologies of the surrounding blocks and buildings in the historical centre.

Olympieion & Ilissos, Athens, Greece

Olympieion-Ilissos, Athens, Greece

Description The Olympieion-Ilissos area was characterised by the existence of the Temple of Zeus archaeological site, as well as of the former existence of the Ilissos River, which crossed the area diagonally and was diverted to an underground course during the 1930s. The first main initiative taken was the revitalisation of the riparian zone, diverting the river to its original bed. The riverside location of Ilissos is mentioned in Plato’s «Phaedrus» as «countryside». This feeling of countryside in one of the most central locations of Athens, was the main aim of the regeneration of the riverside area. The northern part of the zone is delimited by the Queen Olga pedestrian and tramway avenue. The second main initiative taken was to extend one of the two perpendicular to the avenue axes towards the riparian zone. Description In order to respond to the dysfunctional commercial model in the Athens centre, the proposed solution was the creation of a multipurpose complex combining commercial, educational and cultural activities. The site was located in the middle of the distance between Omonoia Square and Kaningos Square, receiving their passenger flows. The main entities of the complex, a cubic building and a rectangular one, formed a new square between them. These two main entities were unified by a metallic bridge, symbolising an entrance to the complex. The landscaping at ground level defined the remaining points of entry of the complex.
