about the site: This site is located in the centre of Canberra, and it is the new Parliament House on the Capital Hill. By the time when the old Parliament House was too small for the several hundred to fit, in 1978 the Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, released the plans to design and build a new Parliament House. To find the suitable design, a competition with up to 329 entries was held. The final design that was chosen in 1980 was by New York based Mitchell/Giurgola & Thorp Architects. The site for the new Parliament House had 6 times the space of the old Parliament House.

the purpose: The main purpose for this study, is to analyse what types of qualities on the current site or even what new qualities that can be added that could possibly be developed for the future. This information and the model is aimed for people interested in possible future developments for the Parliament House in Canberra. It could even be for the future member of the Parliament.

l & analysis Tall posts for the flag It is the highest part of the site

Higher topography in the middle of the site

The building does not seem very high as it is almost similar with the height of surrounding trees.

The surrounding of the building are mostly trees. Does not look very diverse.

conclusion

In conclusion, as seen from the model, section cut and the side view, the Parliament House building itself is positioned quite low, the surrounding trees seems to cover abit of the building and the vegetation does not seem to be diverse. Some possible developments that could be made for this site are to plant various types of vegetation, gradually building upwards to stand out, and possibly add more water systems outside such as a waterfountain. From these developments, members in Parliament would definately enjoy being part of the Parliament, and it could also attract more tourists for beautiful photos.
