THE CANVAS OF COMPASSION: BEN OF WARAWARA ART

In the bustling heart of Cape Town's African Women's Craft Market, amidst the vibrant tapestry of crafts and voices, lies a sanctuary of expression and healing - Warawara Art Studio Here, Ben, a visionary artist and nurturer of talents, weaves not just colours but lives into masterpieces Born in Tanzania, Ben s journey into the world of art was sparked by an early visit to an art museum, a visit that rerouted his destiny from following in his father's doctoral footsteps to embracing the uncertain yet rewarding path of an artist

"I started drawing when I was really young, Ben shares, his voice tinged with the excitement of a lifelong passion realised "I didn't know then that art could be more than a hobby, that it could be my work, my contribution to the world In 2017, with a dream in his heart and talent in his hands, Ben journeyed to South Africa, a land rich with inspiration and a vibrant art scene Here, he not only continued to explore his artistic voice but also discovered a purpose greater than himself - supporting struggling artists

The art market, Ben explains, adapts to its surroundings In Zanzibar, the sea, fishermen, and coconut trees dominate the canvas, while in South Africa, Mandela and the Big 5 are the muses "It's about painting what makes sense for the environment you ' re in," he says, highlighting the adaptability and cultural sensitivity that underpins his and other artists' work
