HELLO Dreams really do come true. What started off as a summer internship has turned into a real life dream job. I am so excited to start this new journey with everyone! Not only has HBG Wedding Style resized its publication, they also decided to resize the staff and added me to the ‘ohana. Hello! My name is Keyah-Leilani Agoot. I’m so humbled and grateful to be your editor for HBG Wedding Style. From organizing the “Unveiled” sections, to contacting vendors, coming up with titles and working alongside Julie Aragaki, this has been a surreal moment for me. I am so blessed to be part of this industry and to help showcase what the Hawaii bridal industry has to offer. Hawaii is more than white sandy beaches, mai tai cocktails, pineapples, tropical flowers and beautiful year-round weather. Hawaii is paradise — the perfect place for your destination wedding. Take a few extra measures to guarantee you look your best in photos with these strategies. After having your hair & makeup done & he’s in his tux, you’ll both look & feel fabulous. Here’s how you can make sure it shows in your pictures. Schedule a pre-wedding day photo session

Practice smiling

If possible, a photo session before the wedding can help relieve day-of jitters. You’ll be warmed up to being photographed.

Practice makes perfect, even when it comes to your smile. to look natural, you must be comfortable with your smile & own it. The more you do it the more natural you’ll feel.

Whiten your teeth Get a manicure

For a prettier, brighter smile that will make you feel more confident, try a whitening toothpaste and white strips. For best results, get a professional whitening treatment.

Your ring deserves to have its picture taken & you want your fingers to look pretty! Every detail counts.

Hair & Makeup session Do a hair & makeup trial before the wedding day to make sure you like the look. Take photos to see how the look translates in pictures.

- EXPERT TIPS -

PICTURE PERFECT SKIN submitted by MAKANA ESTHETICS WELLNESS ACADEMY AND SPA

Getting ready for your wedding day should start on the day of your engagement. Food choices play a great role in this entire journey. If you have a gym membership, seek the advice of a personal trainer and commit to a workout package that includes a nutrition plan. If you don’t have a gym membership, shop around for a gym that will be convenient and comfortable. Working out will help to increase blood circulation and oxygen to the skin, flushes out toxins faster and brings a natural glow to the skin.

Body treatments are equally important and often forgotten about until the day the bride puts on her backless wedding dress. Book monthly body scrubs or back facials to exfoliate the body and even out skin tone. A few months prior to your wedding seek out a reputable spray tanning salon. Slowly layering your tan will help you find the right tint that compliments your dress and complexion. Medical esthetic procedures can be an instant miracle worker for estheticians and their clients. When dealing with stubborn forehead lines or crow’s feet, dermal fillers and Botox are considerations. My strong recommendation is to book several consultations and to request before and after pictures of clients. The procedure can be a one-time thing just for your special day.

And hydration is so important! Always remember that water is your best friend. Carry your water bottle with you everywhere you go. These healthy habits will help when your professional esthetician is working to create a fabulous look for your wedding day. The esthetician will identify your skin's needs and address your personal concerns. Addressing hyperpigmentation, dehydration or adult acne takes time and a commitment to receiving numerous treatments. Research facials that will help to exfoliate and brighten your skin such as enzyme facials, glycolic facials and microdermabrasion treatments.

These recommendations are intended to help you prepare for your wedding day. The most important message I would like to leave you with is, “Love yourself and allow yourself to feel and enjoy each moment during the process”

MAKAN A E S THE TI CS W E LL NES S A C A D EM Y A ND S P A Following her passions in teaching and esthetics, Malia Sanchez founded Makana Esthetics Wellness Academy in 2007. At Makana, well trained esthetic students perform spa services on guests under supervision of a licensed esthetics instructor. At Makana’s luxurious spa atmosphere, guests can personalize their special event for any bridal occasion, celebration, meeting or party. www.makanaacademy.com

Kendall’s eyes were on the man that she was about to marry. As she locked eyes with Anthony, they both started to tear up. Once Kendall stood at the altar, next to her best friend, she knew she was home. Anthony and Kendall met through mutual friends at the Art Mixx, a semi-annual event held at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, which hosts local artists and DJs. All it took was a simple self-introduction to really make that night memorable. Little did they know that their paths would continue to cross. Kendall referred to these moments as “flirting shyly like middle schoolers.” “After two months of casually hanging out, Anthony finally got the courage to tell me he was interested, but after weeks of failed attempts to go out, we finally went on our first date,” Kendall said. “Anthony had bought me two tickets to see The Green in concert for my birthday in the summer of 2015 and presented me with my first test.”

H AWA I I B R I D E . C O M

45

He said, ‘Here’s two tickets to the concert, I know you wanted to go so have fun and take whomever you want.’ So naturally I asked him to go.” The night did not go as planned. “The traffic was terrible so we missed half of the concert. We made it just in time for the beer garden to run out of beer, but none of that mattered,” Kendall said. “We enjoyed the last couple of songs the band played, went to a bar for 15 minutes and stayed up until 2 a.m. talking about anything and everything we could think of.” Kendall knew something special was happening between them. The couple had talked about getting married in 2016 but during dinner at BUHO restaurant in Waikiki during a “work” trip for Anthony, he made it seemed like he wanted to wait for a couple more years.

FROM THE MOMENT THAT TAOTAO AND QIAOWEI MET, THEY WERE A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN. THEY WERE BOTH BORN IN CHINA AND FRESHMEN REGISTERED FOR THE SAME CLASSES. Taotao and Qiaowei needed to go to the supermarket on their first day in Indiana. On that snowy New Year’s Eve in a small town of Bloomington, they began the start of their happily ever after. They would be a part of each other’s lives for the better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, and until death parts them.

“We went out to try to find a supermarket to buy some necessities and walked for hours and got lost in the snow several times. There was no one around to ask questions or directions,” Taotao said. “I cannot remember how we found a supermarket, but we did and I remember I wanted to buy hair conditioner but did not know the word for it in English. So I asked Qiaowei and he pretended that he did not want to tell me, which I found really strange at the time.” Years after their first “date,” Qiaowei finally confessed to her that the real reason he did not tell her the English word for conditioner was because he simply did not know the word himself. The couple looks back on this first day they met and laugh about all those little details because it led them to plan the wedding of their dreams. After seven years, the pair decided to get married. Right after they met each other’s parents, Taotao and Qiaowei got their marriage certificate and started planning their beautiful destination wedding in Hawaii. Taotao and Qiaowei’s vision for their wedding was a romantic, classic wedding in Hawaii. Taotao had fallen in love with Hawaii on a trip with her parents. “The weather was great and the ocean was so beautiful. It is so romantic and this was when I knew I wanted to get married in Hawaii. Plus, winter in Washington D.C. is too cold to wear a beautiful dress in January. Hawaii was perfect for a winter wedding,” Taotao said. Hawaii was also a midpoint between China and the continental United States, which made the location more meaningful. On their wedding day, Taotao and Qiaowei read their vows in AKALA Chapel at Hilton Hawaiian Village and celebrated with their family and closest friends at Lanikuhonua. As Taotao walked down the aisle alongside her father, she looked at the man she was going to marry and instantly smiled as his face lit up, watching her walk down the aisle. The sun shone through the chapel and illuminated this precious moment. This was the moment they had waited for; they couldn’t wait to say their “I do’s.”

CHELSEA AND MICAH MET DURING THEIR SENIOR YEAR AT KALANI HIGH SCHOOL AND HAVE BEEN INSEPARABLE EVER SINCE. ONCE THEY WERE ENGAGED, CHELSEA AND MICAH IMMEDIATELY BEGAN PLANNING THEIR NUPTIALS WITH THE WEDDING PLANNER AND DESIGN TEAM AT SUMMER HOUSE TO MAKE THEIR DREAM A REALITY.

The elegant ceremony was held at sunset at Fifty Three by the Sea, a place where so many special memories are shared between Chelsea and Micah. This is the exact place Micah got down on one knee, opened his heart and asked his best friend to be his one and only, forever. To Chelsea, she was attending a dinner celebration for Micah’s graduation. Right as she walked into Fifty Three by the Sea, she found herself surrounded by her entire family and closest friends holding photos of memories that her and Micah shared over the years during their relationship. Chelsea’s heart fluttered and her eyes glistened with excitement, as her high school sweetheart was proposing right in front of her. The popular Kaka’ako waterfront restaurant’s best kept secret is their stunning second floor private dining rooms and chapels, which were exclusively booked through Summer House Couture Weddings and Events. Romance and beauty were in abundance on their special day. The chapel setting is naturally stunning with a view overlooking the surf at Kaka’ako and Diamond Head serves as the perfect backdrop. Above this breathtaking view from the chapel’s windows, white orchids and eucalyptus hung over the couple creating a perfect arch as they recited their vows. The bride wore a dusty rose custom couture gown from designer Galia Lahav, combined with very light ivory French lace and a custom belted skirt. Chelsea also wore a beautiful Jeniffer Behr head-piece flown in by Magnolia White days before the event to accompany her cathedral length veil gifted by Lahav. The mermaid style dress with intricate beading and a lace front slit showed off the bride’s sparkling Jimmy Choo pumps.

Chelsea walked down the aisle hand in hand with her father, Todd Murata, who looked over at Micah and with a gentle nod, placed Chelsea’s hand in his. As Micah saw his bride in this moment, he could not help but smile. This was the most special moment to him. “That was a very special moment for me, when Chelsea’s dad gave her away,” Micah said. With the sunlight in front of them and white orchids and eucalyptus hanging from the arch, now standing hand in hand facing each other, eyes locked onto each other’s, surrounded by their closest family and friends, Micah and Chelsea started their journey as husband and wife. – continued on page 121

FORMER HOKULE’A CREW MEMBER SAM KAPOI, CLOTHED IN A SILK BROCADE MALO OR TRADITIONAL HAWAIIAN LOINCLOTH, STEERED THE CANOE THAT CARRIED AJAX MAHARLIKO ACROSS THE SOFT, ROLLING WAVES OF WAIKIKI TO THE SHORES OF THE ROYAL HAWAIIAN, A LUXURY COLLECTION RESORT. His bride, Daisy Merto, awaited his arrival. In a scene reminiscent of days past when members of the Hawaiian monarchy would arrive by way of the sea and stars, modern-day beachgoers, who themselves had crossed oceans and continents to witness Oahu’s beauty, instinctively rose to their feet as Ajax descended from the canoe to join Daisy on the grand Ocean Lawn. Ajax and Daisy had always talked about how amazing it would be to get married at the “Pink Palace of the Pacific.” With a successful career in television and film, Ajax admired the hotel’s historical significance and its iconic role in the film industry, and the hotel’s distinct rosy hue also happens to be Daisy’s favorite color. After a site visit, the couple instantly fell in love with the hotel’s charm and booked it for their wedding the very same day.

Escorted down the aisle by her parents, Daisy was a vision in what she described as her “dream wedding gown,” a custom couture dress designed by Hawaii designer Kini Zamora. The blush gown was accented with French lace imported from Latvia and hand-sewn appliqués made of Swarovski crystals set in rose gold filigree, a detail that Daisy had incorporated to compliment her beautiful rose gold engagement ring. In her hair, styled by Miya Brown, Daisy wore a custom comb with the same rose gold crystal appliqué. And finally, for an added touch of glamour, she chose earrings by Mariell and shoes by Badgley Mischka. As the founder and owner of WhiteHOT Hawaii, a contemporary bridal salon on Waialae Avenue, Daisy knew that the expectations were high when it came to the fashion for her wedding, which is why she entrusted in the prowess of Zamora and another established Hawaii designer, Koa Johnson, to dress her and her wedding party. Their family and friends were also dressed to the nines in formal wear. At the altar, Ajax stood in a handsome brocade tuxedo, made of a gorgeous silk imported from Varanasi, India, which was also custom designed by Zamora. To complete the sophisticated ensemble, the groom wore a bow tie from Michael Costello, Christian Louboutin’s, and a vintage presidential Rolex. Ajax and Daisy’s son, Milo, even sported a matching vest of the same Indian silk and a Michael Costello bow tie, altered to his size by Johnson. As they exchanged their vows, Ajax surprised Daisy by reciting an original poem from a three-foot long golden scroll. It began, “Written on a cold, lonely night in Atlanta, Georgia for Daisy.” It quickly became apparent to Daisy that Ajax had begun composing this extensive and heart-felt poem while he was in Atlanta completing the production of Jumanji. He had only arrived back home in Hawaii two days prior to their wedding. Daisy’s eyes filled with tears of happiness as she remembered the many poems that Ajax had written for her when their courtship began, which Ajax would subtly slip to her during classes or work. – continued on page 122

FROM SAYING "I DO" IN ST. AUGUSTINE CHURCH BY THE SEA TO CELEBRATING WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY ON THE OCEAN LAWN AT ROYAL HAWAIIAN, TONI AND RYAN STILL COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS THEIR WEDDING DAY.

In this surreal moment, the newlyweds looked at each other, looked at everyone and blissfully said, “Wow, this our wedding, it’s happening. This is it!” Meeting each other was fate. Toni and Ryan met through a dating app called “Tinder!” “What’s funny is that my friend Jasmine, one of my bridesmaids, told me to download the app on my phone. Our other girlfriends would screenshot funny guys and send it to each other. The app was all just for that. I had no clue it was a dating app!” Toni said. She was unable to download the app on her phone because she didn’t have enough memory. On a night out in San Francisco, Toni decided to delete some of the pictures and videos on her phone and all of a sudden the icon started downloading. “Tada! Tinder was now on my phone. I had no idea that I would meet the man I was going to marry,” Toni said. As a way to live vicariously through his single life, Ryan’s friends downloaded Tinder on his phone. Newly single at the time, Ryan thought it would be a long time before getting into something serious again. “Neither of us took dating apps seriously because we assumed that we would end up meeting someone randomly or organically. Well, the app was downloaded on our phones,” Toni said. “Ryan lived in the city I worked in and he worked in the city I lived in and somehow our radiuses matched and I was his first match!” At first, they chatted through the app and then talked on the phone. Ryan asked Toni out for casual drinks and she dodged answering his requests. “I remember we were texting a lot. I kept looking at my phone to see if he replied and when he did reply, I smiled. It was like I was in high school all over again,” Toni said. – continued on page 123

SOMETIMES LOVE IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOU DON'T REALIZE IT UNTIL IT'S STARING YOU IN THE FACE. THIS WAS THE CASE FOR CHANEL, AN EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AT KHON2 AND SACRED HEARTS ACADEMY HEAD CHEER COACH AND KEVIN, AN AIEA HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER AND AIR NATIONAL GUARD RESERVIST.

They met through mutual friends and more than seven years passed before their relationship blossomed. Chanel and Kevin were oblivious to their chemistry until friends made it obvious. After several video and picture posts on social media, the pair decided to give it a shot and have been inseparable ever since. “It was kind of scary because we already had a great friendship and I didn’t want to ruin anything,” said Chanel. “But after our first official date, I knew he was the one.” Two years later the couple was engaged and planning for their big day. Finding a location was the first task on their list. “I’m lucky. Chanel is pretty simple and her only request was that it was in an outdoor setting,” said Kevin. When you think of a wedding along Oahu’s Waikiki Beach, you imagine surf, sand and a beautiful sunset, but their south shore location had other options. The Hale Koa Hotel’s Luau Gardens is a lush, outdoor setting under the Hawaiian night sky, surrounded by tropical flora and greenery. Chanel and Kevin found it to be a desirable spot that offered the convenience to host their ceremony just steps away from the reception. The rest of the details fell into place throughout their nine-month engagement. It was a typical April day with spring showers in the morning and clear skies midday. Chanel could see the Luau Gardens while the Cherbu make-up team put the final touches on her hair and makeup. The grounds below were slowly being transformed into her wedding day venue. “It was everything and more,” said Chanel. “I was blown away by the decor and I couldn't believe that we were just hours away from being husband and wife.” Chanel walked out to an open lanai to meet Kevin before they said their “I do’s.” And as the two turned to greet the other, both smiled from ear to ear. “She was breathtaking,” said Kevin. – continued on page 124

“Throughout dinner he was talking about marriage and saying we should wait until 2018 to be engaged, so like any other girl, I was like wait, what? How could you go from being so adamant about being married in 2016 to postponing it almost two years?” Kendall said. “I got over it because I was not going to let that ruin my weekend.” After dinner, Kendall and Anthony had a couple drinks at Rumfire, and later decided to walk over to the beach to hang out. To Kendall, this was an ordinary night out with her man, but little did she know that this was the night of their proposal. “We sat and talked and it started raining so I wanted to go up to the room and continue our conversation on our lanai, but he insisted we move to a different part of the beach,” Kendall said. “I agreed, so we continued there. When we got up, he told me he had to tell me something. He said he had lied to me for a very long time and my family was very upset with him.” With a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, unsure of what he would say next, Kendall could not help but think of negative things that Anthony could say at this moment. For what seemed like a very long five minutes, Anthony had Kendall’s mind racing and then, he dropped down to his knee. Kendall immediately said “yes” and instantly hugged her fiancé tightly. “This was by far the happiest day of my life to date. The way he proposed was truly better than I could have imagined it,” Kendall said. “It happened in true Anthony custom. We are constantly pranking each other and he got me good!” As they walked down the wooden pallet bridge back to their reception area as newlyweds, their faces lit up with broad smiles and a twinkle of love in their eyes. Kendall’s family home provided a beautiful backdrop for both the ceremony and reception. She grew up here, a place she held dear to her heart. “Growing up, I always said I’d be married at our family home. There is no place in the world I love more than our family home in Waiehu, Maui,” Kendall said. In lieu and preparation for the couple’s big day, Kendall’s father and friends created the romantic ceremony site. As a planner, Kendall knew exactly what she wanted and understood how important it is to trust the vendors. With the help from her mom, Carolee, CEO and President of White Orchid Wedding and their florist, Teresa Sena, she created her dream wedding. Under a large white tent, chandeliers were hung and tables were decorated with shimmering candles. White and pink floral centerpieces with just a pop of gold accent personalized their outdoor wedding. Kendall gave her mom full reign of design and showed up to her wedding completely surprised and in awe of her surroundings. “From the fresh flowing Lo’i patches surrounding the property, the tranquility of the Waiehu river running in our back yard and the beautiful memories I have here, I cannot imagine life anywhere else,” Kendall said. “It was perfect and it will always be my favorite place in the whole entire world. I married my best friend and we have the best wedding day memories.” Y

– BLUS H I NG I N LOVE – continued from page 56

Once Taotao and Qiaowei turned to each other to say their vows, Qiaowei held his bride’s hands as he shared his promises to a woman he fell in love with at age 18. It was at this moment that Taotao lifted her hand up to her face to wipe the tears. “We always knew we were meant for each other, but at this moment at the alter saying our vows, it really brought us closer together. We were both thrilled to have each other in the future and I was sobbing when Qiaowei was saying his vows. To me, this was the most special moment of our wedding,” Taotao said. At their reception at Lanikuhonua, their guests got front row seats to the beautiful ocean Taotao fell in love with and to a Tahitian dance performance by Tahiti Mana. With a view of the Pacific Ocean, guests relaxed, laughed, ate and celebrated with the newlyweds under a romantic, draped wooden canopy. The small wedding party not only enjoyed the authentic Tahitian dancing, they also were part of a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. “The red cups in this traditional Chinese tea ceremony were for both Qiaowei’s parents and mine. After we gave the tea to our parents, we then officially got to call each other’s parents ‘mom’ and ‘dad,’” Taotao explained. During this tea ceremony, their parents sat upfront on the green lawn dance floor area as Taotao and Qiaowei gave their parents a red cup of tea. Smiles and hugs were exchanged as the parents warmly welcomed this transition in gaining a new son and daughter and officially becoming in-laws. They wanted to make their first dance as husband and wife perfect so decided to take private dance lessons to prepare for their “sunlight.” The couple chose Bruno Mars’ “Marry You”, as their wedding song. This moment was so important to them, that Taotao added eight hooks to shorten her Pronovias princess gown. “We practiced several times before the wedding, but my gown was still too long and my heels kept sticking to the lawn. The music was going too fast and we kept forgetting our steps, so we stopped in the middle of our first dance and ended in our dramatic ending pose,” Taotao said. “This may not be the perfect first dance, but this day is still the most beautiful day in our lives.”

Kris Labang Photography

Throughout their wedding day, Taotao and Qiaowei could not help but look at one another and see the young adults they fell in love with. Taotao reflects back on who Qiaowei was when they first met and is still certain that moment was the best thing that happened to her. “For me, even if he did not know the English word for conditioner at 18, he still knows everything I do not know,” Taotao said. “Meeting each other was the most perfect thing that happened to us.” Y

For Chelsea, it was this moment that she cherishes most. “The most special moment of our wedding to me was the exchanging of our vows in front of family and our closest friends,” Chelsea said. As they were announced as husband and wife, their marital glow beamed through the chapel. The personalized details from their wedding may have helped to create that magical feeling, but it was that high school sweetheart love that really illuminated the chapel. After the ceremony, guests relocated to Halekulani, where they mingled and enjoyed hors d'oeuvres from Halekulani and a sushi bar from Chelsea’s father’s company, Yatai Sushi. The cheering echoed and the love for Chelsea and Micah filled the ballroom. As soon as the newlyweds walked into Halekulani, they were immediately welcomed with a tunnel by their bridal party. As they ducked their heads, held hands and walked through the tunnel together, the couple could not help but smile in this blissful moment. Chelsea’s mom has been in the wedding business for several years as an important part of Magnolia White Couture Bridal Salon, 53 by the Sea and Summer House Couture Weddings and Events. However, planning this wedding was anything but an ordinary affair. Chelsea and Micah worked with Summer House to achieve an aesthetic balance between an untamed natural setting and a sophisticated black-tie event, without it feeling over the top and stuffy. Swarovski crystals adorned name cards, menu cards, table assignment and favors, were individually placed by the mother of the bride, Jeanne Murata, to give that personalized touch and to help create their whimsical wedding. The flowers, an ensemble of local greenery and the bride’s favorite flowers, peonies and roses, were designed by close family friend and floral artist, Fong Tagawa owner of Floral Inspirations. Fong used several thousand real roses and hydrangeas to make the perfect floral wall used as the photo backdrop for wedding guests. From Tiffany & Co.’s crystal collection, the arrangements were lined on both sides with a tower of Tiffany & Co. gifts for each and every guest. These Tiffany favors were the best kept secret of the entire wedding. The coordination team managed to have the boxes flown in from the Tiffany & Co. store in New York just in time for the wedding as a last-minute surprise for the bride and groom. The guests also received a potted succulent labeled with “Let Love Grow,” as a personal touch from Chelsea and Micah. During their dinner, there were speeches from the mother of the groom, complete with a touching tag-team speech that was both heartfelt and hilarious by Chelsea’s three siblings. The father of the bride gave a touching toast, thanking everyone for traveling near and far to be a part of their special day while pouring his love and gratitude for his wife and in being a father to Chelsea and his new son-in-law. Dancing as newlyweds, Chelsea and Micah only had eyes on each other. Chelsea danced in her husband’s arms radiating in her bridal glow, as Micah held his wife, looking at his forever. Chelsea laid her head in Micah’s chest and treasured this romantic moment. The reception was truly a grand celebration of family and friends. Y

“I loved every single one and it was a big part of why I fell in love with him,” Daisy fondly recalls, “As he read this poem, it reminded me of how far we’d come as a couple and as a family and how everything had all led to this moment.” Daisy and Ajax had met during the fall of 2007, when they were both attending University of Hawaii at Mānoa. Daisy had traveled from her home in Guam and Ajax from Seattle, Washington. Both had wanted to learn more about their heritage and so they serendipitously found each other in the same Filipino 101 class. By the end of the first semester, they became an item. “The more we learned about our culture, the more we learned about each other, and that brought us closer together,” said Daisy. Through their coursework, Ajax and Daisy also realized they shared a competitive nature and creative inclination. At the end of each semester, a Songfest or Dramafest competition would take place between the different classes; Ajax would develop the storylines and Daisy would build the sets and design the costumes. Needless to say, the couple and their teammates came in first place every time. It was with this same artistry and imagination that they planned their wedding. “With our experience in our respective industries and working together on countless productions, we planned our wedding thinking greatly of the spectacle of it all: choosing music, attire, and touches that felt uniquely us and to showcase who we are as a couple,” says Daisy. Choosing rich, bold colors – magenta, teal, violet, and gold – and adorning the décor with ornate details and gold accents, Ajax and Daisy created a wedding fit for royalty and an unforgettable experience for their guests. From the elegant floral arrangements by Oahu-based company, Passion Roots, to the gold-painted wooden placeholders designed by Bulgarian calligraphy artist Fran Johnson, every detail seemed chosen with the most thoughtful consideration. The Maharliko wedding was even complete with a red carpet and their guests were treated to an after-dinner surprise performance from Female World Fire Knife Dancing Champion, Jeralee Galeai. As the newlyweds shared their first dance to “The Prayer,” performed live by accomplished musicians Ben Vegas and Malia Gibson, it was in that moment that Ajax realized that his dreams had become reality. “Everything from having our dream wedding to owning our own bridal boutique to working in the film industry and having our precious son were just thoughts and ideas when we first met,” he said. “At that moment [during our first dance], I realized that dreams can, in fact, come true.” Y

Ryan kept asking and the third time’s a charm. Toni finally said yes.

FLOWERGIRLS

The night started off at a restaurant in downtown Burlingame with two Jack Daniel’s and ginger on the rocks. They ended up driving to San Francisco and bar hopped, taking the time to get to know each other. Toni and Ryan enjoyed each other’s company, ending their first casual date at 5:30 in the morning. “I had a lot of fun and just wanted to keep seeing him to see where it would lead. I later found out that he told his co-workers it was the ‘Best Friday Ever!’” Toni said. “From that Friday, things changed for the both of us!”

FLORAL DESIGN 808.387.0286 flowergirlshawaii.com

The evening they got engaged was (after their wedding) the “second best day ever,” according to Ryan. Toni was already in New York for a work event and Ryan flew there to spend the weekend. All throughout his travels, Ryan constantly checked his right pocket every 45 seconds to ensure the ring was still there. “People must have thought I was on drugs or had some type of abnormal OCD to tap the outside of my pocket. I needed to feel that it was still there,” Ryan said. Along with the anxiety of keeping track of the ring, Ryan’s adrenaline and mind were racing. Confident with his words that would be spoken during the proposal, Ryan’s biggest concern was finding the perfect location. His first thought was Times Square, but he quickly knocked that cliché down. Then he thought of doing it on top of a rooftop or restaurant and realized that was not who they were as a couple. Thirty minutes prior to landing, Central Park popped into his mind and it felt right. After arriving at the Waldorf, they walked to the park. Moving at a much slower pace than he wanted to, Ryan rushed Toni through Central Park while trying to a find an ideal spot to propose. He found a secluded place by a rock, set up their camera for a selfie, put it on video setting and got down on one knee. As he waited for a long three seconds, Toni smiled and said “Yes, of course." Toni and Ryan planned the wedding of their dreams. “I feel that our wedding had three parts to it; the church, out on the Ocean Lawn at Waikiki beach and inside the Monarch Room at Royal Hawaiian,” Toni said. “It was perfect, we got it all!” As the doors opened and illuminated the church with her bridal glow, Toni began walking down the aisle. An emotional moment, when both of her parents handed her off to Ryan, was Toni’s favorite part of the ceremony. On the Ocean Lawn with a view of Waikiki beach, Toni and Ryan loved being surrounded by the people they cherished most during their ceremony. The gold pineapples, pink floral centerpieces, white tables, white chairs and white lace linen, created a glamorous wedding on a beach. Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” will forever be engrained in their hearts. The couple danced and smiled, staring into each other’s eyes until, Ryan lifted Toni up, carried her in his arms and passionately kissed her. During that moment, as they were swept away by romance, it felt as if only the two of them were in the room. Everything was perfect from the Tinkling and the personality of their emcee to the picturesque views. Toni and Ryan could not have thought of a better way to celebrate two becoming one; the beginning of their happily ever after. Y

The locale gave Photographer Dylan Dawson endless options to capture the precious moments of the day. From breathtaking views of Waikiki Beach to an intimate garden setting, Dawson and his team snapped memorable shots. “Dylan not only took care of our “day-of” photos, He did our engagement photos too,” said Kevin. “He made us feel absolutely comfortable.” “I knew I didn't want a videographer so picking the right photographer was a top priority,” said Chanel. “Dylan and his team went above and beyond, making sure not to miss a moment.” The crowd slowly filled the area, as the sounds of Manoa strings echoed through the garden area. Slowly the procession started and Chanel made her way down the aisle to meet Kevin on the other side. Keeping things on a lighter note, Kahu Kordell Kekoa made sure everyone, including the audience stayed involved. After a few laughs and tears of joy, vows were exchanged and the two were officially announced as “Mr and Mrs Miura.” “We wanted to make sure the evening flowed smoothly,” said Chanel. “Stress free and fun was our main goal!” Just a few feet away from the reception, guests found their way to their seats. Savannah’s Seat Covers and Linens lined the seats with white covers and a lavender sash. Tables were topped with lavender sachets of Diamond Head shortbread cookies and a floral arrangement of beautiful cream roses and tulip anthuriums. “Chanel has always been crafty,” said Kevin. “She put together all of the favors and centerpieces, even the table numbers” Chanel would have loved to take a do-it-yourself approach for the entire event. “But I kept it realistic and selected a few tasks and then reached out to the professionals for the rest,” she said. The couple had a few priorities. In addition to a convenient venue, they also wanted good food and music. “We both love delicious food,” said Kevin. “The Hale Koa Hotel has great selection and we've always been impressed with the spread” Chanel and Kevin called upon a friend to find the perfect band. “I saw Back Beat for the first time at Gordon Biersch and instantly knew they were perfect,” said Chanel. The seven-piece band provided both the dinner and dancing music. “The band was able to not only set the mood while everyone dined,” said Kevin. “They knew just when to pick up the beat to liven up the party” “Our wedding couldn't have been more perfect,” said Chanel. “We wanted it to be a memorable evening full of fun and laughter with those closest to us.” Every minute lived up to their expectations. The couple ended the evening on the dance floor laughing with loved ones and friends. Quite a memorable start to a new journey for Chanel and Kevin. Y
