CHOOSING AN ARTIST When it comes to seeking out a makeup & hair artist for your special day, it can become a quite intense decision. There are many reasons why brides should not rely on their own makeup expertise for their weddings. While most women are proficient in applying cosmetics daily, an everyday look is not the best idea for your wedding day. Bridal makeup is not a heavier than usual version of your basic face. It is a beautiful, natural, application that enhances the best version of you as well as being suitable for photography and video. TRUE PROFESSIONALISM Most brides assume that everyone who is labeled a makeup artist has aptitude. We highly recommend doing your homework. Consider the level of professional skill and experience of each individual artist. A skilled makeup artist is one who can create a look using the most suitable colors and textures specifically for your skin type and skin tone. She or he will also use appropriate techniques to emphasize your best features and soften others.
RELIABLE SKILLS When considering your premier stylist, look at their portfolio of bridal images. The Artist should create a look that compliments the style of your gown and the color of your bouquet. Remember that bridal makeup should always look clean and natural with an understanding elegance. Your artist should always consider your vision while sharing their professional advice. The makeup must be long-lasting, waterproof, high performance and photo friendly.

COMPATIBILITY Most importantly, hire someone whose personality an attitude put you at ease. Trials are so vital, as this provides an opportune time to not only test their skills but experience them. Passing up a night in your PJs is tough, especially when you’ve got the chance to catch up on your favorite shows. For Betty Tso, she decided to put aside a night of relaxation and Grey’s Anatomy to support her friend at her beauty pageant. After the pageant, she found herself at “Tacolicious” for a late night meal. That’s where she met David Zhang. “They ran out of desserts. So I grabbed a bar of chocolate I found in my purse and made my own,” said Betty. “The beauty of my chocolate nachos stuffing face caught David’s attention and it was love at first sight.” Betty and David’s chance encounter may have started as a night out for nachos, but their relationship grew into much more. It was during a weekend trip to Napa, that the two finally took the next step. It was a Valentine’s Day redo in Napa after David “forgot” to make plans for the annual occasion. The couple planned to indulge in the views and food at Auberge de Soleil, a luxury resort with breathtaking views and delicious food.

During a private garden picnic, David planned the perfect proposal. Not expecting a proposal at all, Betty was dressed for a relaxing morning. “I was in my pajamas and UGGs, and ready to feast,” said Betty. “I caught a camera flash up on the trees in my peripheral vision. He got down on one knee and flashed a diamond in my eyes. And I said yes!” Before they knew it, the couple was planning their big day. David and Betty followed a specific criteria before deciding on a location, looking for the perfect blend of nature and luxury. “First, the wedding must look dramatic and extravagant. Second, there must be an ocean backdrop. Third, the food must be decadent. And lastly, it must be a fun vacation for all our guests,” said Betty. Hawaii may have offered the “perfect blend of nature and luxury,” but it was the Kahala Hotel and Resort that sealed the deal! “Kahala perfectly fit my criteria,” said Betty. “As a cherry on top, David’s best man also grew up at the Kahala, as his grandfather was the original owner of the hotel.” Since the couple decided on a destination wedding, they needed help planning the event from across the Pacific. Betty and David reached out to wedding coordinator company, Couture Weddings Hawaii, to help coordinate the details for their Modern Marie Antoinette themed wedding. From there, each detail, call, and booking started to fall in place. – continued on page 119

As they prepare to leave as husband and wife, Kristen places her hand in Rob’s as he helped her up onto her seat. With their sunglasses on and smiles as bright as the Hawaiian sun, the newlyweds prepare for what will be the best ride of their lives their surprise getaway helicopter ride, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Integrating Rob’s lifestyle into their wedding, was particularly special for them. As a helicopter rescue hoist operator, flying is a part of Rob’s life and is one of his biggest passions. “It’s a lifestyle that’s inherently hard to get close to unless you work in the industry, so to be able to get our guests up close and personal was definitely a highlight in our wedding,” Rob said. A helicopter ride was also the perfect getaway to spend time as husband and wife. “To be able to sneak off just the two of us and fly over the ocean for some alone time after the ceremony to do our photos on top of a mountain and to surprise our guests with a sneaky fly by on the way back, was just an unreal moment,” Kristen said. Kristen and Rob met a bar. What was supposed to be a night off with the guys, turned into a playful rescue mission that this firefighter did not plan for. “I went out to catch up with a friend over drinks when we were rudely interrupted by a group of gentlemen that decided to take over our table,” Kristen said. “After politely asking them to leave multiple times, I decided that I would need to get creative in convincing them to depart from our table, and that’s when I saw Rob across the room.” Kristen noticed Rob earlier not only because he was the tallest guy in the room, but also because he and his friends were having such a fun time. She made her way to his table, tapped him on the shoulder and asked, “Excuse me, would you mind doing me a favor?” After explaining their situation, Kristen convinced him to extinguish the situation. “She explained her situation and I was all for it. To me it sounded like a great game! So, I briefed one of the boys on the plan, and we made our move. It went through flawlessly. The guys promptly left their table.” The end of this little rescue mission was supposed to end the moment it was extinguished, but a fiery connection between them had started. The two ended up hanging out for the rest of night and have been together ever since. “Seven years later and multiple moves and trips between Canada and Australia, and here we are!” Kristen said. – continued on page 120

In front of a show stopping arch piece arranged with peonies, garden roses, locally grown dahlias and lush greens, stands a love radiating in all its beauty— the love between Jaimie and Reece as they are announced as husband and wife. Reece holds Jaimie close in his arms and seals the deal with a passionate kiss. In this moment, the newlywed’s love outshines the sun on Halekulani’s Hau Terrace. Time stands still in this picturesque floral enchantment. Jaimie and Reece met at UH Manoa, where both were part of the student newspaper, Ka Leo O Hawaii. Reece was the features editor when Jaimie joined the newspaper team as a copy editor. “The desk I happened to get assigned to in the newsroom was directly across from Reece’s, so he was one of the first people I started talking to there,” Jaimie said. “When we first made plans to hang out, I tried getting out of it at the last minute by pretending to be sick,” Jaimie said. “But in the end, Reece drove from town to Mililani anyway and we had a good time over dinner. That was six years ago.” Shorten this quote, maybe: Reece was the features editor when Jaimie joined the newspaper team as a copy editor. As luck would have it, Jaimie’s assigned desk was right across from Reece’s and the two quickly became friends. “When we first made plans to hang out, I tried getting out of it at the last minute by pretending to be sick,” Jaimie said. “But in the end, Reece drove from town to Mililani anyway and we had a good time over dinner. That was six years ago.” Since their first “date,” Reece has always gone above and beyond for Jaimie, from the proposal to designing her wedding bouquet. “It was something he decided to do when we first started planning our wedding and it came out exactly how I wanted it to,” Jaimie said. “It made that day all the more special.” Reece’s great-grandparents established Beretania Florist 80-years-ago. Reece’s mother now owns the shop but everybody helps with the family business, including Reece and Jaimie. “Reece oversees sales and marketing. During busier holidays, the rest of the family pitches in too, including his dad, sister, brother, aunties, family friends and me,” Jaimie said. “So the flower shop is a really special place for us. We spend a lot of time there and both thoroughly enjoy it. Appropriately, it is also where Reece proposed.” After a long day at work, Jaimie wanted to go home and shower, but Reece had other plans. He insisted that Jaimie should take a look at a new window display that he created. “On my way there, the thought did cross my mind that maybe ‘this is it.’” Jaimie said. “We had talked about getting married a lot that year and when I asked Reece when it might happen, his answer was always ‘by the end of the year.’” On December 30, Jaimie got to the flower shop and Reece led her to the front, where she was greeted with a bouquet of flowers and rose petals spread out on the ground in the words, “marry me?” Jamie and Reece’s first look was a particularly special moment for the couple during their wedding. “It was something we both wanted to do so that if we emotionally lost it, we’d at least have some privacy,” Jaimie said. “I had also kept my dress hidden before the wedding, so I got to see Reece’s reaction when – continued on page 121

In her white lace Gia gown, Kelsi delicately carried her train in her right hand and looked down at her glamorous shoes, as she took each step toward her groom. Ruy placed his hands in his pockets and his smile grew wider as he heard his bride’s shoes on the steps. Her heart raced and she could not help but smile as she saw Ruy anxiously waiting at the bottom of the stairs. Kelsi tapped his shoulder and Ruy turned around. This was just the first of many special moments on their big day. Little did they know, the summer of 2012 in Boston, would be the start of their forever.
Hawaii is more than just a location to Kelsi. Hawaii is home to her favorite beaches and truly where her heart is. Getting married in Hawaii, was an easy decision.
H AWA I I B R I D E . C O M
Kelsi was back in Boston, Massachusetts for a month to do research to improve her medical school application. To celebrate her return to Boston, her friends from college decided to go out that Friday night. Kelsi and her friends were planning on going to a club in Cambridge, but when they got there, the line was ridiculously long. As they were deciding on where to go next, they noticed a bar across the street. It was at Moksa, where Kelsi and Ruy would meet for the very first time.

“At the end of night, liquid courage led me to make my way to the other end of the bar where Ruy was to tell him that he was really cute,” Kelsi said. “He looked up at me, sweaty and with an aunty tita bun and said ‘Really?’ He handed me his iPhone across the bar to put my phone number in.” At the time, Kelsi did not have an iPhone and was unsure how to put her number in his phone, so one of her friends helped her out. “I clearly did not know what I was doing, my friend put my name in his phone as ‘Hawaiian Kelsi.’ A fact I would not find out till much later in our relationship,” Kelsi said. Being born and raised in Hawaii, Hawaii is and has always been the end point for Kelsi. She has been away from home for almost 10 years, going to school and trying to become a doctor. “When Ruy and I first started to get serious, I jokingly told him if he was not okay with moving to Hawaii in the future, it was not going to work between us,” Kelsi said. “I was born and raised in Honolulu and it is where my family and closest friends are.” When the couple was back on Oahu in June 2016 for a friend’s wedding, Ruy proposed. With the help of Kelsi’s mom, they found her the perfect ring and planned the proposal. “Every time I go home we always have a family beach day at Ala Moana Beach Park. Once we got our belongings settled at the park, Ruy asked if we could walk our puppy around Magic Island since he had not seen it before,” Kelsi said. “When we got to the point of Magic Island, he asked me if I was happy and I said yes. Then he got down on his knee and pulled out the most beautiful ring I ever saw and asked if I would marry him.” Kelsi was completely surprised. She could not hold back her tears of joy and enthusiastically said yes to the love of her life. – continued on page 122

Their relationship may have started in the Caribbean, but Kathrin and Ralf decided on a different tropical locale for their wedding. The cabin attendant and pilot met 22 years ago during a stopover visit to the region. As their relationship grew over the years, there was no hesitation when it came to solidifying their commitment to each other. Kathrin and Ralf may not have set a wedding date in the past, but they always discussed their honeymoon destination. “We just decided to get married together,” said Kathrin. “There was no real proposal, we do everything together.” There was no fuss or big planned gesture. The two simply decided together it was time. Deciding on the details were just as easy. “We always said, should we ever get married, we want to spend our honeymoon in Hawaii,” said Kathrin. “And then we thought, why don’t we get married there, it makes the wedding even more special.” The couple chose quite the special spot to gather close friends and family for the intimate exchange. West Oahu’s iconic shoreline provided the perfect paradise backdrop for the couple, including a beautiful oceanfront view. Under strings of café lights, were long rectangular tables adorned with mini tropical floral arrangements on top of a pineapples, matching Ayaka’s bouquet. She glided in her white sweetheart, beaded neckline wedding gown, with a loose braided pony tail delicately sitting on her right shoulder, crowned with a simple pink peony and angel breath haku. She lifted her eyes up from the ground and smiled at her future husband waiting at the altar in his light grey suit, shoulders adorned with a luscious green maile lei. Reid’s eyes were closed and when the music cued for Ayaka to walk down the aisle, he finally opened his eyes. Immediately, his face lit up as he saw the love of his life coming toward him in her wedding gown. His eyes locked onto Ayaka and he bashfully smiled.

WINTER/SPRING 2017
“He did not know anything about my dress and when he first saw me walk down the aisle, he smiled,” Ayaka said. “We both agreed that this was the most special moment for the both of us.” Their love story started in Japan. Ayaka and Reid met in Tokyo while going to college. “I went to Bunkyo Gakuin University and Reid went to Sophia University. We met when we used to work part-time together when we were students,” Ayaka said. “We started hanging out a lot after work. He was shy and I did not get the hint at first, so this went on for a few months. Finally, I realized he liked me and it kind of naturally progressed from there.” Prior to their destination wedding, Ayaka and Reid were legally married in Japan. The proposal was simple and romantic. “Reid was on his knee with a ring and flower when we went to submit the marriage form to the city office in Japan,” Ayaka said. “We did not have a ceremony in Japan. We had our wedding and reception in Hawaii with close friends and family.” Having a destination wedding in Hawaii, was an easy decision for the couple. Hawaii is one of the most special places to Ayaka. “We always planned to have our wedding in Hawaii. I have visited every year since I was a little kid and it is a hometown to my loved one,” Ayaka said. “Reid is from Hilo, Hawaii.” The newlyweds decided to have their wedding on Oahu because it was easier for family and friends to travel from Japan. The next step was choosing their venue. As they were looking through venues on Oahu online, Ayaka said they immediately fell in love with Queen Emma’s Summer Palace. – continued on page 124

Before they knew it, the details were set and they were sending each guest a custom leather luggage tag invitation, setting the bar for what was to come on the big day. Preparation for the day started early. An Oahu-based florist, delivered flowers to the hotel, providing accents of lavender, mauve, and dusty pink helping to transform the ceremony and reception site into a luxurious setting. Upstairs, the groom laid out his custom made suit flown in from Shanghai, while the bride prepared her Atelier Pronovias gown. From start to finish, Derek Wong Photography and Seeking films captured every moment. “I remember seeing my beautiful mom get her makeup done next to me,” said Betty. Our makeup artists worked their magic and before the bride and bridal party knew it, they were ready to walk the aisle. Betty took one last look in the mirror, and headed out the door to meet her future husband. “I remember being so nervous and holding Ann’s (best friend and maid of honor) hands,” said Betty. When the Bride arrived at the ceremony site, she spotted The Kahala Hotel’s iconic white gazebo. The gazebo’s white pillars were adorned with Betty’s favorite roses, giving the gazebo an elegant pop of color. Behind it, a beautiful ocean backdrop. Down the aisle stood David smiling as she walked closer. “The most special moment of all was of course walking down the aisle with my father and seeing David, my family, and closest friends waiting for me,” said Betty. The Kahala Resort and Hotel not only served as the ceremony site, but also the reception. Each table in the ballroom was lined with the perfect blend of accentuating colors from an amazing wedding linen company. And as an added treat, guests found sweet favors at each setting from the Honolulu Cookie Company. Once everyone was seated, it was time to dine. The couple wanted to make sure each guest had the chance to indulge in their carefully selected dishes that was catered by the hotel. “There was steak, lobster, foie gras, poke,” remembers Betty. “I had to make sure everyone left Hawaii happy and fat.” Just in case the sweet creations from the hotel weren’t enough, Betty and David also chose a tiered cake work of art from Cake Works, which not only caught the eyes of their guests, but tantalized their taste buds as well. Rob had been planning a proposal for a while, but everything fell into place once he knew that they were going to Coachella. “It’s a special place for the both of us having been there separately before,” Rob said. He had always wanted to design a ring with Kristen, because he knew they could create something special. However, having decided to propose in Palm Springs, he ended up shopping for what he considered a wedding band to be used just for the proposal. While he was mentally and physically ready for the proposal, he knew the right thing to do was to ask Kristen’s dad for permission. During their trip to Palm Springs, Rob made the time to meet her dad in Phoenix. “I had a couple of minutes alone with him while we were packing the car and he immediately gave me the all clear,” Rob said. His original plan was to propose during a sunrise hike, but after a couple of late nights out and late mornings in, Rob and Kristen decided to do a hike later in the day, up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. After hiking for a short time, Rob found the perfect place up on a cluster of boulders that overlooked the valley. While Kristen was busy contemplating about how she was going to climb down from the boulders, Rob got down on one knee. “The next thing I know, I am crying and we are laughing with excitement,” Kristen said. “I was even weaker in the knees than before.” Hawaii was the perfect destination for their wedding because it was a place that both their families, traveling from the east coast of Australia and multiple cities in Canada, could fly directly to. It was also paradise ⎯ a stress-free, beautiful, and relaxing place for everyone. Kristen and Rob’s ceremony and reception were held at the Turtle Bay Resort. “We wanted to be outside of Waikiki and loved the idea of the more relaxed island vibe from North Shore,” Rob and Kristen said. The newlyweds matched Hawaii’s natural island beauty, with a green floral chandelier that hung from the center of a clear canopy, strung with café lights. The chandelier added the perfect touch to their boho-garden themed wedding. Under it, the newlyweds and their guests danced to music played by the Island Kings Band all night long. “They even threw in a little ‘Down under’ by Men at Work to finish the night off and the crowd went wild!” Rob said. What meant the most to Kristen and Rob was this exact moment; having all of their friends and family in one room. Kris Labang Photography
“Our friends and family are very important to us. It was very special that we all got the opportunity to be together for our wedding. Even Rob’s 90-year-old grandma made it! That was something very special to us,” Kristen said. What was supposed to be a bar table rescue mission, turned into a forever partner. Hawaii may have brought their families together for their wedding day, but Kristen and Rob’s fire keeps on burning beyond their ceremony and reception. Y

he turned around to see me in it.” During their first look moment, it was everything she hoped it would be. Reece could not help but smile at Jamie when he saw her in the white, strapless Pronovias wedding gown. By keeping the dress a secret, Jamie was able to see Reece’s immediate reaction. The mystery and surprise made the moment even more spectacular. “[It was] worth it,” she said. Rather than focusing on a theme for their wedding, they focused on what they knew best⎯ flowers. Beautiful floral arrangements marked each table along with matching flower-themed stationary. The ceremonial arch was filled with dainty pink peonies, hydrangea and locally-grown dahlia. The couple even filled glass jars with their own rose-scented potpourri for the favors and the wedding cake was adorned with minimal flowers and lush greenery. “Reece’s mom oversaw the design of our wedding flowers and everything came out absolutely gorgeous,” Jaimie said. Reece’s mom also made their show-stopping ceremonial arch. “It was everything we wanted and really made our ceremony special and so pretty,” Jaimie said. Kamele Eskaran of Pueo Projects designed their pink and green watercolored save-the-dates and wedding invitations. “She first began with watercolors of flowers with the colors we had in mind before tying it all together in a suite of materials,” Jaimie said. The couple loved the design so much that they incorporated Eskran’s design to their table cards, menus and signage. “Kamele [Eskran] also handpainted the ‘welcome’ sign we had set up near the check-in table,” Jaimie said. The sign boasted lush greens and [insert specific flowers here] to add to the floral enchantment. From the start of their wedding planning process, Jaimie knew she wanted two special elements at their wedding, a photo backdrop and a boutonniere bar. Jaimie and Reece worked together in creating their locally grown monstera photo backdrop. “It was a fun weddingrelated task to complete together and came out exactly as I had hoped it would,” Jaimie said. “We had a polaroid camera set up next to it and guests were invited to take photos. We let them keep whatever they wanted to, but asked that they put one in a photo album, along with a message to me and Reece.” Getting married in Hawaii was an easy decision for the couple because was their home. “It’s where we both were raised and where a majority of our family members and friends reside,” Jaimie said. Being able to celebrate together and to share their wedding day with their loved ones surrounded by their love, was truly an unforgettable day. Y

“When we got back, my family was waiting with tears and bubbly. He knew how important my family was to me and I loved that he asked me with my family there,” Kelsi said. Hawaii is more than just a location to Kelsi. Hawaii is home to her favorite beaches and truly where her heart is. Getting married in Hawaii, was an easy decision. “Ruy was born and raised between Nicaragua and Florida with family scattered among many different states. He is very close to his family, but has been nomadic throughout his life,” Kelsi said. “His family and friends were all extremely excited to make their way to Hawaii to celebrate our love. I know it meant the world to him that they made it from so far.” Kelsi and Ruy had a total of 91 out of town guests from all over the world, attend their wedding at Ko Olina Ocean Gardens. The sun was shining and the weather was perfect for their Hawaiian beachy and chic wedding. Kelsi’s bridesmaids stood next to her in yellow floral dresses, holding a luscious yellow rose and green bouquet, while Ruy’s groomsmen stood by him in collared white long sleeve shirts, khaki pants, matching seafoam colored Nike shoes, and long maile leis around their necks. Under their white tent ceremony, their guests relaxed at white linen tables, detailed with burlap and large sunflower floral arrangements. The newlyweds danced their first dance as husband and wife, Kelsi’s dress was perfect for showing off her moves. To Ruy’s surprise, Kelsi planned a special hula dance for her husband. “I was told to sit down in a chair on the dance floor and I was thinking, I am not sure what part of the program this is,” Ruy said. “Then Kelsi came out with flowers around her head and ankles and performed for me. It truly took my breath away.” Being from Hawaii, Kelsi knew she had to take advantage of the beautiful sunset for their pictures. Standing with Ruy taking sunset photos was a moment that Kelsi will cherish forever. “Ruy and I were standing on the rocks in a bed of seaweed. The water was warm and the seaweed under our feet was so soft,” Kelsi said. “The sky was like cotton candy and for a moment, I forgot we were taking photos. It just felt so perfectly us, alone. I was staring into the eyes of my soul mate in one of the most beautiful places on earth, with all of our closest friends and family.” After Kelsi graduates from medical school in Portland, Oregon, the couple plans on moving back to Hawaii. “Ruy and I plan to move back for my residency and start a family somewhere close to the beach. A place where both of our hearts are,” Kelsi said. Y

green tropical setting to a beautiful blue Pacific Ocean backdrop. The resort and spa even offered full service wedding planning options. The couple wanted to keep things casual with a light beachy feel. They requested a specific dress code for their guests: men in Hawaiian shirts and white pants and women in all white.

“We wanted it to look and feel casual and beachy,” said Kathrin. “Everybody looked amazing.” Each guest found their seats, looking out towards the award winning Ko Olina lagoon. Ralf waited with anticipation at the end of the aisle. With a few strums of the ukulele, Kathrin started her walk down the aisle. The breeze caught each layer of her Vera Mont dress, as if she was floating towards her groom. Photographer Chrissy Lambert captured each step, glance, and gaze up until the exchange of vows. The newlywed couple even got a special visit from Disney’s iconic pair, Mickey and Minnie. Surely an added perk for choosing the Aulani, A Disney Resort. Once the couple sealed their promise with a kiss, guests made their way to the reception area just steps away. Beautiful florals from a local florist lined the tables. But it wasn’t the tropical flowers or roses that lined the white linens, rather it was pieces of driftwood, seashells, and starfish adding to the couple’s beach themed wedding and venue. As each person took their seat, they got a glimpse of the dinner menu prepared by Aulani’s talented chefs. There was even a unique sweet treat placed on each of the settings. “We didn´t have a cake; it is not such a big tradition in Germany,” said Kathrin. “We had Mickey and Minnie shaped macarons.” The bride and groom found their places at the center of the table. And as everyone finally settled into their seats and sipped on their drinks, they were treated to a beautiful Hawaiian sunset. From sunny skies to evolving tones of blue, pink, and orange, dusk set in and dinner service began. Now set under the Hawaiian night sky, Kathrin and Ralf continued their celebration of vows with loved ones. Quite the end to an enchanted exchange of vows. “Everything was just perfect,” said Kathrin. Y

“We found Queen Emma’s Summer Palace online and loved it. I wanted to share the beautiful historical place with the people we love,” Ayaka said. With the help of Couture Weddings Hawaii, Ayaka and Reid’s “island nature” themed wedding was perfect. Ayaka, Reid, and their guests celebrated their love under a clear blue Hawaiian sky. Ayaka and Reid stood in front of a simple white sheered, elegant altar adorned with a green protea floral arrangement on each pillar. Created by Spinning WEB Floral Design & Services, the protea floral arrangements were very similar to Ayaka’s extravagant tropical wedding bouquet. Inside the venue, Queen Emma’s Summer Palace was transformed into their wedding reception. Under strings of café lights, were long rectangular tables adorned with mini tropical floral arrangements on top of a pineapples, matching Ayaka’s bouquet. In the middle of the table stood glass vase, where a blossomed pink flower floated at the bottom under a white candle. Each vase was placed in the center of a greenery arrangement detailed with a yellow orchid. Placed in front of each guest was a customized pineapple cork coaster that said, “You are the Pineapple of my Eye,” a tooth pick box that said, “You are my best pick,” a Big Island Candies box to share a piece of where Reid is from, and a bottle of water with a customized label that said, “Mahalo from the bottom of our heart. Ayaka and Reid. Shoots den!” Additionally, guests enjoyed a photo booth and a candy buffet. “For our photo booth, we set the props and asked our guests to hashtag ‘shoots0320’ when they posted photos from our wedding,” Ayaka said. “We had a candy buffet that had mini malasadas, mini cupcakes, and other candies. They were all so cute, all of our guests loved it!” As the day turned to night, Ayaka and Reid’s wedding party was just getting started. The couple danced their first dance as husband and wife on the white dance floor under the café lights. As Reid twirled his wife around, his eyes never left Ayaka’s. She smiled, laughed, and glowed as her husband held her close in his arms. As the song was coming to an end, the couple surprised their guests with a routine. Reid swung his bride around and finished with a graceful dip. Emotions ran higher during the best man and maid of honor speeches. The maid of honor and best man’s speeches were a special moment for Ayaka and Reid. Ayaka smiled and giggled, as she dabbed her eyes during the maid of honor speech. Reid grinned and laughed during the entire best man speech. At the end of the speeches, all of their guests stood up from their chairs, with glasses in their hands, and cheered to the newlyweds. As soon as the dance floor opened up and music started playing, Ayaka, Reid, and their guests started showing off their moves. High fives, laughter, clapping, smiling, and singing filled the dance floor as “Y.M.C.A.” played. “We wanted our guests to see the view from Queen Emma’s Summer Palace and to have a time of their lives that they had not experienced before,” Ayaka said. As Ayaka and Reid danced along with their family and friends, it was then that they knew this was exactly how they pictured their wedding day. Y
