Week 6 Journal Most analysis are include in week 5 journal already. So this week i want to talk about more about the model. Before we start to build model the first thing for us to analysis is the shape. For MSLE building, we can’t really see the back and the top of the building, so we try to find out the information from the map. From the map, we can clear see two ramps as picture shown blow.

Beams are lying at the top of right ramp.

From this map we see space behind building, so we should consider this for our model.

The next thing is the ramp inside the building. As we know it is not flat, so we should calculate the angle for the ramp. We measure that by using rule to measure the length and width then calculate the angle.

As we see in the model, first floor is longer than the second, the length different between these two levels can be measure by using map. We simply use ruler to measure the length for first floor then the second, the difference is clear shown. We want to build a model in scalar, so we put map under then build the model on the map, so model is in scalar.

Not too many things to talk , these are the pictures took from different angles.

Load paths The main load paths for our building are the two vertical walls, horizontal reinforce concrete slab ,the zinc plane above ground floor and the metal beams under the ramp.

Vertical walls: Two horizontal walls support whole section and don’t allow it to fall to right and left. Horizontal reinforce slab: reinforce slab supports mainly live loads like people who are walking on. It also connects to both vertical walls so it can transfers the loads to walls then to foundation system. Zinc plane.: zinc plane hold vertical part above for example the big glass window. It connects to both walls, too. So it can transfer loads to walls then foundation system. Mental beam: mental beams hold beams above, so people can walk through. It support both died load and live load. The connection with left side wall allow it transfer loads to foundation system.
