This week’s lecture and tutorial are most about the introduction of this subject and some details about what should we do on assignments. However the main knowledge point for this week is compression. This word means much more in constructure, because that is the most basic thing of thinking how to make a tower. The task we do during tutorial class is using many wood blocks to built a tower and try to make it as high as possible. The main things i consider that is important to have a good base which can support the weight of tower. So i realize to built a square root. My group member tries circle root at first but it does not work very well. So we start to have build a square root basic on this shape. (blow)
Basic on this base it should be very tough to hold the whole tower. Then we try to turn circle and make the top part of the tower become cylinder.

Because we have a large base so we don’t have enough time to build it up. The group beside us has same structure as us and their tower goes really high. I think the main thing i learn from this task is that how compression is important for a high building and what kinds of shape can be used for high rise buildings.
