Week 10

This is a timber frame building. Timber frame is the most common frame used in Australia. There are a lot of reasons for why people use timber frame in Australia.

Timber is a fantastic material, it is cheap strong and light, we can use less labour to install them together, from my view, this building uses only less than 20 works to build, that is really small number(elearing, 2013). From design aspect, I think timber frame building collocate the playground is a good idea, it gives us a feeling, that we are away from urban area.

Because of the size of building is big, only timber frame may not strong enough for supporting, so some aluminum beams are used. They locate blow or beside the timber beams and connect with timber beams to make sure they will not fail.

Alumium is a good material for building, they are hart to get rust, they are light and very strong. It uses at many parts of the building.( eleaing,2013)

These pictures show different phase of bleacher. The inner part of the bleacher are build by these black timber boxes. The reason for why they use timber, i think because it is light and cheap. Then they put steel frame onto the timber box. Then pour concrete on it. Finally it becomes the way we look from the picture at right side.

Those steel stricks with yellow hat are used for reinforcement purpose. We can put concrete column on it or floor system, so it helps the structure upside connect tightly with the downside.

Once again, some mental plane put under the top of timber frame, it will help timber to against loads from top, it also can prove protection for people when the timber frame is broken.

The top part of the building is a ramp with about 15 degrees. It can be consider as the roof system of the building, we know the roof part must consider about storm water. (Ching, 2008) So I think the slope is a good water to solve water problem, Henry said the water tank is at the left side of this picture, so the slope will allow water transfer to the left and get into water tank, the top of this top is a slope as well, it will water at top transfer to right side and a pipe is underneath, the pipe will transfer water to water tank as well. The pipe will be described under.

For this part, it uses same timber as the bleacher. But I don’t think they will leave here as a timber surface, because it has a slope at the top, if rain come down, the water will transfer through this surface, as we know water is the biggest enemy for wood. So I think they put a cover for this surface, I think they will not use mental, it’s not corporate to the building, I like to use flashing for it.

This is the pipeline I mentioned before. The pipe is connected with water tank at another side. It responses for transfer storm water of right side of building to the water tank at left side. Once again, I don’t think they will leave wood surface, I think they will use some cover to resist water touch this wood surface. I don’t really understand what is that black thing. I think maybe it is the cover for waterproofing purpose.

Fix joinest is used for connection. Mental cable are used for reinforce the structure away from deforming.

Aluminum is used for window frame, it is cladding. Alumium is the most common material for window frame, because it is strong and light. From moisture and heat aspect, they will put black plastic at the gap to make sure water can’t go in and heat can’t go out.(Ching,2008)
