Ages 12 - 15 • $60 Play with light. Build a pinhole camera. Develop images. Explore the reflected image. Learn about historic, alternative photographic processes like cameras obscura, emulsion transfers and anthotypes with plants lead by architect Philip Christou. Spend time in the darkroom and get hands-on with low-tech photography. This camp is generously supported by the Christou Family in memory of Dr. Van Christou, a local and prolific photographer and artist.

Ages 10 - 15 • $100 With Debbie Kelman and Sandra Lamouche Join us for a week of First Nations dance and art. Each morning starts with a sage smudge, followed by Native crafting and artistic exploration. End the day with Indigenous contemporary dance and movement. Learn the Native Hoop Dance, the story behind it and make your own hoop! The week concludes with a showcase of dance and arts to share with friends and family.

Writing classes will be found under Literary Arts. You will find dance and acting classes in Performing Arts. Drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, clay, fibre, stained glass and woodworking are all located in Visual Arts. Be sure to look for related classes within each discipline. If the class is offered more than once in a season, all sections will be listed below the description.

BUILD-AN-ART CAMP DESCRIPTIONS ART STORM! Ages 6 - 9 Move! Paint! Create! Have fun through expressive arts. Kids collaborate by picking out a story, creating a short play and creating their own costumes. Great for busy bodies with big imaginations looking to bring their dreams to life! CLAY WHEELERS Ages 9 - 12 Take a spin at the wheel! Students learn basic preparation and throwing techniques on the clay wheel, while expressing their unique style in glazing. Creativity is encouraged while developing technical skills. Glazing workshops to follow two weeks after the last class. COLLAGE CREATIONS Ages 9 - 12 Explore the exciting world of collage and learn the truth in a picture being worth a thousand words. Students will be lead through a series of explorations using pictures, magazines and their own creations. Elements of design and basic colour theory will be explored in this expressive class. FABRIC FUN Ages 6 - 9 Get funky with fabric in this camp which explores dyeing, felting, stencilling and image transfers – the possibilities are endless when creating wearable art. Create unique pieces that will take your summer wardrobe to the next level! FANTASTICAL FIMO Ages 6 - 9 FIMO is a bright, colourful and safe polymer clay which can be shaped into animals, objects and jewellery. Take home what you make after creating a miniature sculptural world full of vibrant creatures and wearable pieces. FIRST NATIONS ART & DANCE Ages 10 - 15 A week-long exploration of Indigenous culture with acclaimed First Nations artists. Smudging, dancing and crafts fill each day while appreciating the importance of tradition. Additional information can be found on the inside cover. HIP HOP FOR KIDDOS Ages 6 - 9 A class made for the busy-bodied! Find your groove, learn some new moves and work towards creating a unique piece of choreography. Try something new in this supportive and creative environment! MAGNIFICENT MUD Ages 6 - 9 Play with clay! Students are encouraged to be creative while learning about the basics of hand-building. Functional and decorative pieces will emerge from the mud! Glaze workshops to follow two weeks after the last class. MIXED MEDIA MADNESS Ages 6 - 9 Experiment with mixed-media techniques and wild new materials in collage and printmaking. Unique handmade cards and other marvelous multiples will be brought home for all to share! MONSTER MASH Ages 6 - 9 This camps starts with some collaborative, fantastical creations on paper. By the end of the week, you’ll have brought your monster to life! Learn about scale, texture, colour theory and surface treatments while working in a multifaceted ways. Great for those whose dreams at home are too big to be contained on paper!

PAPER AND PASTE Ages 6 - 9 Using their imaginations, students will create whimsical creatures and objects using papier-mache! Take 2D ideas into 3D expressions and explore the exciting world of sculpture! THE POWER OF PAINT Ages 9 - 12 Take a leap into the world of paint, spark your creativity and expand your skills with the paintbrush! Paint from life and the imagination, using a range of tools and applications. From watercolour to acrylic and beyond, you’ll be amazed at what can happen when you put brush to canvas. PUDDLES OF PAINT Ages 6 - 9 Hands are bound to get messy in this camp! Explore watercolour, acrylic and tempera painting while learning about colour mixing, blending and pointillism. Individual creativity is always nurtured! STITCH, TIE, FOLD Ages 9 - 12 Take your tie-dye skills to the next level with this fabric-centered camp. Learn the age-old methods of Shibori dyeing, find your favourite fold and incorporate stitching and quilting. Take home your creations to wear the rest of the summer!

Clay Hand-building! Zines! Watercolour! Monoprints! Enjoy a fun art workshop and space for food, presents and cake. Each party includes: all art materials, classroom rental and one amazing instructor. Each birthday party is booked for 2 ½ hours with 1 ½ hours of art making and 1 hour for presents and cake. Guests will be able to take home their original art creation as their party favour.

ALLIED ARTS COUNCIL BURSARY PROGRAM The Allied Arts Council provides a Bursary Program to ensure adults with accessibility requirements and children are able to access AAC art education classes (Casa Core Classes) offered at Casa regardless of financial capacity. Child Bursary: Students wishing to receive a bursary must complete a Bursary Application which includes a declaration of financial need. Families are eligible for a total of five bursaries in a calendar year. Bursaries are valued at 75% of the class fee. Accessibility Modified Art Program for Adults: Students wishing to receive a bursary must complete a Bursary Application which includes a declaration of financial need. Students are eligible for up to five bursaries in a calendar year. Bursaries are valued at 75% of the class fee.
Approval of the Bursary Application and payment of the 25% registration fee are required before the student will be admitted to a class.

FEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The City of Lethbridge has created a Fee Assistance Program to ease financial barriers that would otherwise prevent low-income Lethbridge residents from having access to local recreation and culture activities. Applicants who meet eligibility requirements may receive fee assistance of up to $150 per person per season for a maximum of one program in the Spring (January-June) and Fall (July-December) programming seasons (Maximum $300 per calendar year).

This Spring / Summer, Casa will be hosting four Artists in Residence, joining us from Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, Etobicoke, Ontario, and Edmonton, Alberta. Open House events offer our community the opportunity to talk with visiting artists about their practice and what they have worked on during the course of the Residency in a friendly, informal setting. Fully equipped, communal studios for textile, printmaking, photography, woodworking, sculpture, pottery and 2D art forms are accessible by Studio Access Pass holders. EDUCATION REFUND POLICY Courses cancelled by Casa due to low enrollment will be issued a full refund. Students may cancel their enrollment at any time prior to the registration deadline, at which point they will receive an 80% refund; 20% is retained for administrative costs. Once the registration deadline has passed, students are ineligible for a refund; exceptions can be made with a doctor’s note. Casa is unable to prorate for missed classes.

ARTS INSTRUCTORS Do you have a passion for the arts and want to share it with others through teaching? Casa accepts resumes on an ongoing basis for instructors teaching visual and performing arts to children, youth and adults. SAFETY & SECURITY Safety & Security are prime considerations in this community facility. Key elements of our Safety and Security Program are:
• Casa staff are available to provide assistance during regular hours of operation and are prepared and trained to deal with emergency situations • First Aid Certified staff are available during hours of operation • Common areas and washrooms are monitored regularly by Casa staff • Individuals behaving in an inappropriate or harassing manner will be asked to leave the building • The police will be notified and a permanent ban from Casa will result in the event of illegal activity • Receptacles have been placed in the washrooms for safe disposal of sharps and needles • Traceable key fobs are provided for building and studio access • Appropriate information plus safety packages and equipment available in all studios and classrooms • Demonstrated proficiency and studio orientation required for studio access • A buddy system is recommended for after-hours studio access.
FACILITY BOOKINGS Casa was designed to provide appropriate space for the creation and presentation of works of art from artists working in all disciplines. Each space is designed and equipped to accommodate the unique requirements of specific arts practices. Space can be booked for classes, workshops, performances, lectures, film screenings and special events. Room bookings are coordinated by the Operations Manager and spaces are assigned based on intended use and numbers. Arts-based programming will have booking priority. Available spaces for booking include the Community Room, Meeting Room, Dance Studio, Rotary Square and the Upper Patio. Rental rates are based on a sliding fee scale ranging from $20 to $50/hour. Special event bookings start at $650. Note: extra staffing and other incidental costs will be charged to bookings that extend beyond normal hours of operation.
PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY Casa is a well-used facility with many events occurring on a daily basis, including classes, rehearsals, meetings, concerts and more. Photography and videography, for personal or professional use, is welcome and permitted in the facility as space is available. Safety in all uses of Casa is of utmost importance and we ask all users to be respectful of the facility. Regulations for the new policy can be found on the Casa website.
