As I took a metaphorical walk with the soft-spoken Spike Jonze and looked inside his psyche, what struck a chord with me was his nostalgic tendency to cling to the idea of adolescence—that preserving invisible forts were paramount to surviving reality. Remembering the kind of introverted individuals that are drawn to the work of Jonze, I designed a thread to carry throughout the festival that would tug at heartstrings and bare the naked weight of loneliness.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seed's song titled, O Children, never fails to leave me with the deepest and darkest of aches. I chose to illustrate that visceral feeling by using the unique properties of water. Consider it a base; It is both a life-giving and life-taking element and its chemistry with other elements creates a multitude of possibilities. With an interesting reaction to ink, I likened the visual gravity to the event of children losing their innocence as they are forced to grow up far too quickly.

Riding Rogue and Riding Rouge is a pair of dark Russian stout and porter that began as a home brewing adventure by a brother and sister. Reflective of the brewers’ whimsical personalities, this dynamic duo, beer for him and her, brings out the debonaire buccaneer and the sassy red-caped vixen in all of us. Reminiscent of childhood fables about pirates conquering the seven seas and brave souls warding off big bad wolves, this concept targets both male and female consumers who have a penchant for imported craft beer and of course, a good time.

Targeting a niche community of craftsmen, I branded a line of eco-friendly paint founded on the principles of legacy. And with legacy comes tradition and craft. Painting is brought back as an art—a ritual and a mindful practice. My grandfather, Ambrose, is the source of my inspiration as he is an artisan, teacher, beloved community member and family. Each organic component made of wood, fabric or leather is reclaimed material and is handcrafted specifically for the intent of this endeavor.

The concept was a hybrid of polar worlds where the dead meet the living. A homage to the Mexican holiday Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), was merged with the American tradition of Moonshine crafting. Two varieties of Mezcal Liquor, AĂąejo and Dorado, represent legendary twin warriors reincarnated as the sun and the moon. Presented together as a pair of bottles with respective shot glasses, this project demonstrates that it is possible to design sustainable packaging for multiple units of breakable goods without sacrificing artistry. The target audience for Two Prophets are thrill-seekers and curious millennials.

I explored this question by bringing back children's stories in the form of spirits to appeal to millennials who grew up with Disney Classics. The objective of using subtle allusions to Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan suggests that even minimal elements can leverage the power of nostalgia.

The solution: Frankenstory Labs is made of two parts: the custom 3D printed toy that is a kit of appendages and accessories with a companion app on the iPad that creates different stories based on the interaction with the toy. The child's imagination can be experienced in both the digital and analogue worlds with Frankenstory Labs.
