The undisputed “Godfather of Street Art”, Richard Hambleton was born in Vancouver in 1952. In the early 80’s Richard was more famous and his artwork more sought after than his contemporaries - Keith Haring and JeanMichel Basquiat. While Basquiat and Haring became victims of the scene, Hambleton survived and disappeared until the last 10 years when fate brought back a ghost. Thrust back in the limelight thanks to attention from Georgio Armani, Phillips Gallery and now Amazon who have secured the rights to Shadowman the movie, Richard continues to paint his shadow figures to this day. During the 80’s when Richard painted the streets he wore Nike Cortez. Now, 30 years later, we aim to created a Shadowman edition Nike Cortez shoe (limited to 500 pairs) that embraces the symbol and mascot of Richard Hambleton. Provided in a shoe box that will reflect the splatter and rawness of the Shadowman, the entire edition will be a testament to the artist and his work. Delivered in a custom edition dust bag, each recipient will receive a custom Nike hooded sweatshirt, branded paint brush (similar to that which Richard paints the Shadowman with) and a small limited edition shadowhead print. All items will only be produced to fulfil the 500 pairs of Nike Cortez, and then be retired to enhance their exclusivity and worth.
