Gore Bay

The classic Kiwi beach with rugged good looks, dolphins and surf breaks to die for. Nearby, Buxton Reserve boasts a playground, barbecues and outdoor table tennis.

Cathedral Cliffs

A huge formation of eroded siltstone pillars that now resemble organ pipes. Best seen from a viewpoint right off Cathedral Road, conveniently close to Gore Bay.

Cheviot Hills Domain

A walking track leads to this attractive Domain flush with plants (springtime daffodils are a highlight), small cricket pavilion and pretty pockets of greenery for a picnic.

Tweedies Gully Walk

Stretch your legs for one to two hours with this shoreline walk starting at the southern end of Gore Bay. Cut through coastal forest to a lookout over Pegasus Bay.

Cheviot Museum

Exhibiting local memorabilia and rural life in 1850s New Zealand. Open from Labour Weekend to Queen’s Birthday every Sunday 2-4pm (or by request). Free entry.

St Anne’s Lagoon

This serene lake is enveloped by trees and governed by ducks, geese and swans. Grab a bag of chips from M and M Takeaways in Cheviot and eat by the water's edge, a three-minute drive from town.
