Taranaki has been known as ‘The Garden of New Zealand’ for over 150 years. Early settlers coined the term in the region’s earliest marketing material, and these days the gardens even have their own festivals.

Every spring the Taranaki Garden Festival and Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival together showcase more than 100 gardens throughout the region – every style of garden is presented, from eclectic to epic, along with events and workshops.

Year-round there are plenty of gardens to discover, from New Plymouth’s private 6-star Te Kainga Marire to the expansive inner city Pukekura Park, the spectacular 360-hectare Pukeiti nestled on the slopes of the Mountain, Tūpare and Hollard Garden, or Hāwera’s picturesque King Edward Park.
