TRANSFORMING A DRAINAGE CHANNEL INTO A VIBRANT GREEN CORRIDOR

Through transforming the ecological channel and integrating it with different types of public space, it forms a new green corridor system within Yuen Long. This could increase accessiblity to open spaces and promote the benefits of ecological public spaces for community use, increasing liveability, health and well being and improving the urban micro climate.

The project explores the integration of a new type of Transport Oriented Development (TOD) complex, using mixed-use functions surrounding the existing Long Ping MTR Station. A large public space and civic centre is placed directly in front of the central statio, to create an open, inclusive and public character and a central meeting place for the community.

The integrated ecological channel encourages social interaction between different users groups, improving community engagement, health and well being and reducing urban heat island effects. Elevated pedestrian walkways give access to new commercial functions and maximise space for the ‘gardens in the city’.
