ISSUE 01: OPPORTUNITIES TO PROMOTE THE REGIONAL SYNERGY OF NEW TOWNS

The New Territories North (NTN) is the poorest area of the New Territories. New Towns in the NTN, such as Tin Shui Wai, have been the focus of negative stories in the popular media, relating to social issues casued by severe social segregation. The design philosophy of these towns pays greater attention to rural protection and ecological development, and the proportion of industrial land in the new towns has gradually reduced due to market-driven development approaches and the decline of local industry. Residential and industrial operations are typically separated in the new towns in the NTN.
