Evaluation: Positives and learning curves throughout brief An expected learning curve throughout this module was, for pretty much all of us it was the first time we were working on a serious bit of print, with a professional printer. We have had to consider artworking, and designing with consideration for print in terms of swatches, and being organised with file management. Organisation was a learning curve, and something we’re still working on perfecting with the yearbook. Collaborating with each other meant sharing files, and that meant a lot of duplicates and copies of files. A lot of disorganised folders. It’s something which made the work process confusing and perhaps not as productive as it could have been early on. Difficulties faced throughout the module Being the yearbook team meant organising and getting the course on our side in terms of sending in content on the dates we specified, and relying on individuals to come through. Unfortunately, this almost never goes to plan when you rely on other people too much – we had a few difficulties with chasing up work, spelling mistakes. Wrong information supplied. A lot of time was spent correcting errors that, if instructions were followed properly, and on time, we wouldn’t have had to do. Again, it’s an issue we pretty much expected but we didn’t expect some of the corrections to be as big as they were. Time was spent correcting errors when it could have been spent working on the design. What I would do differently next time Next time around, I definitely feel we should set up a dropbox, or some kind of shared folder that we work in. This would eradicate duplicate files, and work all over the place with no one having the exact same copy. When working at placements, this is something you see is treated very importantly. Folders and organisation play a huge part in an efficient workflow, as does a dropbox, everything is split into stages, so versions of the same overall document are easy to pull up. So, organisation is something we would definitely give more importance to next time, and moving forward. Next time around, if I had the ability to I would spend more time on the Yearbook, this year, has obviously been very busy. But looking back it seems like the yearbook has never really been the primary brief we have all been working on, but a brief on the side which isn’t a bad thing but I feel all three of us, have the capability to produce something even more polished than we have done.
