Abbey Green had a very busy summer. We had a lot of building work so that we could increase the number of education places for two year olds. The room is now complete and if you haven’t seen the refurbishments do please ask to have a look. We also had some trips to the seaside which parents, children and staff really enjoyed. As you know there have been consultations on the local authority’s proposals for Children’s Centres. These proposals of seven or twelve clusters will enable savings of over 2 million pounds over the next two years. A decision will be made by Executive Council in November. If you wish to know more about this please see Nahida Khalid, Deputy for Families and Community. It’s great to see new faces and welcome familiar faces back Best wishes, Margot Dixon
The nursery school staff have enjoyed welcoming back the returning children and meeting the children and families joining us at Abbey Green. The children have been settling back into nursery and exploring all the activities in the rooms. Everyone has been talking about their family and finding out about sharing, caring and being friends. The children have also been finding out about autumn and some families visited Manningham Park and collected leaves, conkers and acorns; Helen helped to collect some apples from our tree and helped the children to make a yummy apple crumble. Next term the children in Red and Green Groups will be looking at the stories of Elmer, Rainbow Fish and Whatever Next and will continue to talk about family and friends. The will be exploring colour, light and dark and will be joining in with lots of imaginative play, acting out the different stories.
The children in Blue Group will be looking at the story ‘Owl Babies’ a story all about a family of owls. They will also be looking at families and their own family. It would be lovely if you could bring in pictures of your child’s family, e.g. brothers, sisters, mum, dad, grandparents, aunties, and uncles, for us to display on our special pictures board.
On Wednesday 5th November Abbey Green is having an OPEN DAY. Everyone is invited to come and see some of the activities that go on in the class rooms. There will be Firework Pictures in Blue Group; Weaving in Red and Green Groups and much more. There will be refreshments in the hall. We do hope that you will stay when you drop off your children and join in with the fun!
There are lots of courses and activities running at the Centre, ESOL, Sewing, Baby Massage, SAT Dads, The Tuesday Cafe and Parents Partnership, Family Links Nurturing Programme and Family Links Ante Natal as well as an ALL NEW timetable for Stay & Play sessions and Mums and Babies Group including Breastfeeding Support.

Our next SAT Dads is on Saturday 8th November 2014 between 2.00pm and 4.00pm Niki and Julius hope to see you there. Our Parent’s Cafe which is held every Tuesday morning between 9.00am and 10.00am is proving to be very popular but we would love more of you to join us. At the moment we are sharing our hobbies and skills; crochet, knitting, embroidery and much more. We hope to re-establish our ‘Parents Partnership’ after the holidays. The first meeting is planned for Tuesday 18th November at 9.00. The partnership meetings offer an opportunity for families to meet with staff to discuss ideas for things that Abbey Green could do either here at the Centre or in the wider community.
