Gifts Anyone Can Afford You can make a gift now that costs you nothing during your lifetime by making your gift with appreciated securities. Popular gift arrangements include:
Gifts of Stock & Appreciated Assets You can transfer appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares you have owned for more than one year to GSHPA. You receive an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of transfer, no matter what you originally paid for them. You benefit by paying no capital gains tax on the transfer.
Gifts from a Retirement Plan You can name GSHPA as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified plans and in doing so you can designate our Council to receive all or a portion of the balance of your plan. The designated portion would pass to GSHPA after your death. You can continue to take regular lifetime withdrawal and maintain flexibility to a beneficiaries if your family’s need changes during your lifetime. You can avoid the potential double taxation your retirement savings would face. Girl Scouts | 5

Gifts from your Will or a Trust
One of the easiest and most powerful ways to make a gift to GSHPA is to include a bequest in your Will or Trust—enabling you to make a significant contribution that may otherwise not have been possible during your lifetime. Your bequest can be designated for a specific purpose as community outreach, camp, financial assistance, etc. You can also indicate a specific amount or a percentage of the balance remaining in your estate or trust. Your assets remain in your control during your lifetime, and you can modify your gift to address changing priorities. Please consult with your financial advisor or attorney.
Gifts of Life Insurance
If you’re looking for a good way to make a charitable donation to GSHPA, but don’t have large estate assets, consider using an insurance policy. Your need for life insurance will most likely decline with age, increasing its usefulness as a charitable gift. There are a variety of ways to use your life insurance to make a substantial gift to GSHPA. Depending on the type of policy you donate, you may receive an upfront income tax deduction, and any future premium payments may also be tax-deductible. You can donate an existing life insurance policy to us or simply name GSHPA as the beneficiary. For the gift of a paid-up policy, you will receive an income tax deduction equal to the lesser of the cost basis of the policy or the replacement cost. To qualify for the federal charitable deduction on a gift of an existing policy, you must name GSHPA as owner and beneficiary. 6 | Girl Scouts

Gifts That Pay You Income Some of the best ways to support GSHPA are available through life-income gifts. These plans produce generous gifts while you receive income for a life or a set period of time, so you can provide for yourself in the present and Girl Scouts of the future. The benefits include a potential increase in the income you are currently receiving from your investments (especially if those investments are through Certificates of Deposits). You will receive a tax deduction for a portion of your gift, and you will have no capital gains tax due at the transfer of appreciated assets to your gift plan. 8 | Girl Scouts

• Healthy Living • Leadership and Service • Citizenship and Stewardship
Charitable Remainder Trust If you want the flexibility to invest and manage your gift plan—and also the security of stable income—this may be the option for you. You transfer cash, securities, or other appreciated property into a trust. The trust makes fixed annual payments to you or to the beneficiaries you name. When the trust terminates, the remainder passes to GSHPA to be used as you wish. You will receive income for life or a set number of years in return for your gift. You will also receive an income tax deduction for a portion of your contribution. You will pay no capital gains tax on appreciated assets you donate. Please consult your financial advisor. Girl Scouting has been building girls of courage, confidence, and character for more than 100 years. Currently, Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania serves more than 20,000 girls in over 2,000 troops and works with over 10,000 adults to share the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in our 30 counties. Many of these girls are able to participate only because of the generosity of people like you. As we look to the future, GSHPA is dedicated to sharing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience where girls discover their potential, connect with others from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and take action to make their communities and their world a better place. We look forward to your investment.
