American Business Council Hosts Roundtable Discussion with Key U.S. Government Officials DUBAI – JUNE 2, 2013 The American Business Council of Dubai & the Northern Emirates (ABC) in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) and the U.S. Consulate in Dubai hosted an afternoon roundtable discussion at the offices of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P in Dubai Festival City. Hamada Dara Zahawi, Attorney-Advisor with the CLDP in the office of the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce and Kaveh V. Vessali, Political-Economic Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Dubai opened the discussion. The CLDP’s work in the U.A.E. involves providing expertise to government agencies on the development of the many commercial laws currently under consideration, such as the Companies Law, Insolvency Law, Arbitration Law and Competition Law. The roundtable discussion highlighted the commercial law development process here in the U.A.E. with a focus on the interests and priorities of the private sector and their clients. Participants included representatives from Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., Chadbourne & Parke L.L.C. and Afridi & Angell. Ramsey B. Jurdi, President of the ABC and attorney at Chadbourne & Parke L.L.C. remarked: “The CLDP provides great insight into the status of legislative reform in Dubai and the U.A.E. and is a good source of information for our clients and businesses. The CLDP are actively seeking out feedback and suggestions on which areas of legislative reform are important to us and which are feasible, and this
