Luzma's life change inside

Luzma first came to the Tempe New Life Pregnancy Center a few years ago. She needed diapers for her youngest child. She was then a married mother of five. Luzma began attending parenting classes faithfully and developed strong relationships with the center director and volunteers. These relationships would soon prove invaluable during the next season of Luzma’s life. After receiving a free pregnancy test at the center, Luzma learned she was pregnant again. The pregnancy center team rejoiced with her and continued to help her with material assistance for her children, while ministering to her throughout her pregnancy. Following a gospel presentation one day at the center, Luzma quietly made a decision to follow Christ. She put her faith in the right person just in time. A series of harrowing and unexpected life events soon overwhelmed her and her family. Luzma found herself in an unfamiliar place. Now a single mother of six children, she was lost and lonely. During this time, the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) removed all the children from her care. Her baby girl was just two months old. Luzma was devastated. Luzma began working a full-time job to help provide for her children, which was a part of her case plan to get the children back from foster care. As she worked toward reunification, she continued to visit her friends at the pregnancy center for support and prayer during this hard season. The center was her safe place. It was there that she was encouraged in her new faith and reminded to turn to Jesus for strength to help her persevere. After ten long months, filled with tears and gripped with fear that she would lose her children forever, Luzma’s children returned home by the grace of God. milies like Luzma's often exhausted as she works and cares for her six children, but she is grateful to have them with her. She continually looks to the one who rescued her. “When I wake up in the mornings, I say ‘Jesus, here’s my life, one more day. I know that you’re going to help me today.’” We are blessed to play a small part in Luzma’s story through New Life Pregnancy Center and are thankful that she is willing to share her testimony (visit abcs.org/springfling to watch Luzma’s video). Luzma represents thousands of families served by Arizona Baptist Children’s Services & Family Ministries each year. Through our seven Christcentered ministries, we have the privilege of walking alongside hurting children and families through various seasons of life. Many of our ministries are preventative in nature as we aim to meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs before intervention is necessary. When families do require state intervention, we are there to continue to provide hope and care for DCS-involved families through Parent Aide and Arms of Love Foster Care, along with other ABCS ministries. It is because of supporters like you that this work is possible. Together, we embrace the least of these across Arizona. Why has ABCS made it our mission to provide hope and care to hurting children and families through Christ-centered ministries? Because we believe the world is broken from sin and the only real help is to place our hope in Jesus.
