Dubai Innovation District CONNECTING EDUCATION TO BUSINESS
Innovation districts are mash ups of entrepreneurs, governments, people and educational institutes. They give the chance for everyone to show the world how they think, how they could innovate to change the world. It is not just a place of working for a living anymore, yet it is about thinking for a living. Innovation districts allow people to communicate their ideas and grow their knowledge, to shift their ideas into the real world. Innovation districts usually reflect the culture and norms of the country they are built in.

Creating Job Opportunities
Transform to knowledge-Based Economy
The concept behind Dubai innovation district is to create a suitable environment for innovation which encourage people to innovate. first, flexibility in planning by using open plans with flexible distributions. Second, the form of the buildings and the plaza creates the transparency between the indoors and the outdoors. Also, using
6
open plans made the communication transparent between people. Third, applying flexibility and transparency lead to an easier collaboration between people. Finally, when these three factors are found, it creates the best environment for innovation which is what Dubai innovation district is all about.

CREATING A SAFE WALKABLE COMMUNITY
Walkable Communities encourage pedestrian activity, expand transportation options, and have safe and inviting pedestrian infrastructure is accessible and serves people of all ages and abilities. When sidewalks, parks, and trails are pleasant to walk, all community members benefit. Unfortunately, not all places are walkable, but there are plenty of tools citizens and municipalities can utilize to achieve positive changes. Sharjah lacks this type of communities that are walkable, thus, this project proposes a walkable neighborhood in a mid-class area.

The concept behind Sharqan Neighborhood is to create a safe neighborhood with no streets which encourages people to walk and exercise, at the same time it will help reduce the use of vehicles. Also, this project applies sustainability concepts. Firstly, improving the socializing between people
in a neighborhood is social sustainability. Secondly, as the picture shows on the right all villas are tilted to the east-west axis to reduce the amount of direct sunlight and consequently, it will reduce the energy consumed to cool down the indoor spaces. Finally, all villas use thee idea of stack effect to reduce heat.

SITE: Sharjah, Sharqan 1- Drawing axes coming from surrounding streets
2- Creating two cul-de-sacs on the axes to avoid streets cutting through
3- Tilting villas to Wast-East axis to help the passive design

UTILIZING MASSES EFFICIENTLY
Modern buildings require modern solutions. In this project the idea was to turn each function into a mass that has the same volume. Try to fit as much masses as possible in the acquired area. Then, find the best arrangement according to the site factors and the best view and orientation. Nowadays, many corporations are looking for the best solution to achieve the highest possible efficiency.
The conceptual approach to the design intervention is to show the diversity between each room, the design emphasizes each mass in a unique way and uses different depths to create Reception Interior Sketch

unique volumes as a separation between spaces in the plan, it is inspired from the modern uses of spaces and different slabs and areas to create masses and volumes showing different spaces.

BREAKING THE TRADITION
The concept behind the museum is to create a new activity in Al Qasba -The Site- where the youth of Sharjah usually meet. Activities like various workshops, shows, exhibitions, and seminars. The museum style broke the traditional style of Sharjah buildings -Islamic Architectureand reused the geometric shapes which
28
is usually used by Islamic Architecture. The shape of the museum responds to the site and surroundings. One axis was drawn from the building next to it, and another one was offset from the bridge next to it. Then, they meet in the middle creating the main space and creating the welcoming shape which connects to The Qasba existing landscape.

YOUR HOME YOUR SHOPPING ADDRESS
Imagine you are at home, you need some goods or groceries but you have to drive through heavy traffic to the supermarket and there is no enough time. What if the market or the whole shopping mall was downstairs and no need to go through that? This project combines residential buildings with a shopping mall that serves people living upstairs, people passing by, or living around. This idea is not new here in the UAE, however, it needs to be utilized in areas where heavy traffic is usually found so it can reduce it a bit.
The main concept of this project is to orient residential buildings on the eastwest axis to achieve best orientation for passive design. This means the direct sun will hit the southern faces of the buildings, so horizontal shading devices were provided on the southern faces.
34
Furthermore the prevailing wind will come from northern west that will create an air flow between the buildings. The wavy facade that covered the mall and some parts of the residential buildings symbolizes the sand dunes of the UAE deserts which are familiar to the UAE citizens.
