Secondary research of modern holiday houses MVRDV’s Balancing Barn, however, is not an ordinary holiday house – it’s a Living Architecture house. Set up by Swiss writer Alain de Botton, his wife Charlotte and Mark Robinson, Living Architecture’s built products must not only serve up comfy bed and board to its holidaying punters, but also provocation. They must encourage the general public to reconsider their perspective on both modern architecture and the countryside. This holiday house has been influenced by the falling water as it has similar properties as the falling water. Then Balancing Barn can be rented out for holidays.

This is the secret door to enter/exit the house. And this is on the hill drop.

This is one of the modern holiday houses I looked at for inspiration for my own modern holiday house for people to rent. I have drawn the plan and elevation views so that it is easier to see what is the building actually looks like.

Secondary research of modern holiday houses Secular Retreat accommodates up to ten guests in five bedrooms, each with ensuite bathroom. Designed around the landscape of its hilltop setting, the house with it's rammed concrete walls, has a mass and scale characteristic of timeless ecclesiastical architecture. And this building is in South Devon is one of the most famous of English holiday regions. It offers ample opportunities to walk, sail, surf, windsurf, fish, ride and play golf. In the holiday season, there are craft markets, open air theatres and choral concerts, while out to sea one can see porpoises, dolphins and whales. And this will attract more people to come a spend the holiday there due to the fact that the area has lots of activities for them to do.

This is another modern holiday house I looked at for inspiration for my modern holiday house.

This modern holiday house is in the country side. Where they have regenerated the empty space to make that area more popular as people will be able to come for holiday regularly.

This is an elevation of the building that I drew. I drew this to show the sense of scale and how the building looks from the back.

Frank Lloyd Wright Frank Lloyd Wright (born on the 8th of June, 1867 – and died on the 9th of April, 1959) was an American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator, who designed more than 1,000 structures, 532 of which were completed. Wright believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was best exemplified by Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture". Wright was the pioneer of what came to be called the Prairie School movement of architecture. In addition to his houses, Wright designed original and innovative offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, museums, and other structures. He often designed interior elements for these buildings, as well, including furniture and stained glass. • • • • •

‘’The Frank Lloyd Wright fans. Undoubtedly. Why? Because they're on the side of Nature, and the other fans are on the side of an artificiality that is doomed. Do you believe it? I do.’’ ‘‘I'd like to have a free architecture, I'd like to have architecture that belonged where you see it standing, and as a grace to the landscape instead of a disgrace.’’ ‘’Because in the one instance you are inspired by nature, and the other instance you are inspired by an artificiality contrary to nature.’’ ‘’The good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful than it was before the building was built. ‘’Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you

Secondary research of holiday houses Falling water is a house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935 in rural south-western Pennsylvania. The house was built partly over a waterfall on Bear Run in the Mill Run section of Stewart Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The house was designed as a weekend home for the family of Liliane Kaufmann and her husband, Edgar J. Kaufmann. Today, Falling water is open to the public as a museum and is designated as a National Historic Landmark and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Treasure. The house is surrounded by trees as it was build on a water fall where there are lots of rocks.

These are some of the pictures I have taken of the model I made of the falling water. And I have also done a detailed drawing of the falling water where I have added colours to it so that it stands out more and it gives us a sense of what it look like in real life.

These are some of the drawings I did of the falling water as it is one of the building I'm looking at for inspiration. As the falling water in inspired by the nature. Also the falling water doesn’t harm the environment like other buildings.

I have drawn front side elevations and plan view so that I know what the building looks like all around.

Modern holiday houses

I have looked at these modern holiday houses because they are contemporary versions of the falling water. This is because the falling waters has different layers and is inspired by the nature. Also the falling water has roof tops so that people could enjoy the view from there and relax there also the modern holiday houses have waters around the building like the falling water. And these modern holiday houses have similar features as the falling water so that people can enjoy there holiday. Also these buildings are surrounded by trees and lots off greenery which makes these buildings environmentally friendly as it doesn’t harm the environment.

These are some of the elevation drawings I have produced to get some inspiration from them.

These are some of the buildings I looked at as my research of modern holiday homes. And one thing I have realised is that they have different levels and different sense of scale.

I have used chalk for the windows, trees, sun light and for the ground to make the drawings look more attractive and it also makes it easy for the people to understand what is what.

Messner Mountain Museum Messner Mountain Museum, is dedicated to traditional mountaineering, which has strongly influenced – and been strongly influenced by – Reinhold Messner. The museum is devoted to mountain history and also offers unique views of the great mountain walls of the Dolomites and the Alps. The museum building was designed by Zaha Hadid.

Modern houses with solar panels

These are some drawings of houses that have solar panels on them. Also these houses have minimal impact on the environment as you are using renewable energy resources. Also they wouldn’t harm the environment and they a cheaper to get compared to fossils fuels that are near extinction.

Houses on pillars

These are some of the drawings of modern houses that are on pillars as they have minimal impact on the environment. Also these houses can broken apart and lifted to another place.

Leisure

These are some drawings I did using different pen thickness of the leisure activities and relaxing areas.

Regeneration These are some of the places that have been regenerated to make that’s areas more known and it also increases the economy of that area go up. Also this attracts more people to come and visit the place more.

Man- made

Primary research and there drawings

These are some of the primary research I did so that I can use them and get ideas from them to create designs for my building. I have chosen these four primary pictures as they have different levels and texture that makes them stand out more the other pictures. Also these primary research pictures relate to nature and they don’t effect the environment or other objects or building materials.

Design Idea 1

I created this model using cardboard to see what my design idea would look if it was actually made. This design was an simple rough idea I got

How to improve my project

To improve my project I will need to look at other example projects and compare it with my project and make improvements. And I would need to create more design ideas and then have developments for those design ideas. I would need to have a lot of rough sketches and some detailed drawings to show development. I will need to look at a location where my building will be so that I can see if it would have any affects on the environment or not. I will also need to have lots of pictures of all the view points of the building models to show all sides of the building as they aren't all the same. I will also need to have annotations to tell people what I did and why I did that.
