Sport and Exercise Science

Dan Jefferson

Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Boxing Federation of India

“When I was 16, I went to do an apprenticeship in plumbing. I’d always had a background in sport specifically boxing - and I loved the coaching side of things. I was ready to work in sports and realised that if I were to get to the point I wanted –which is where I am now – I needed to get a degree. I went back to college and got an HNC in Sport. That gave me an entry route to second year at Abertay. “

The demand for highly qualified sport and exercise scientists is greater than ever – particularly practitioners equipped to work with elite athletes and teams, as well as those who can help prevent chronic diseases. This degree offers you the opportunity to gain the expertise for these roles.

The scientific knowledge gained from this practical degree means you’ll be equipped to work with a wide range of populations, such as athletes, young people, older people, and those suffering from, or at risk of developing, a number of diseases. For the first two years, you would take Sport and Exercise as a foundation. After that, you can specialise or carry on studying that pathway. The degrees in this portfolio include: • BSc (Hons) Physical Activity and

Health • BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise • BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise

Science • BSc (Hons) Sports Development and Coaching • BSc (Hons) Strength and

Conditioning If you’re joining us from college, you can often join in Year 3, meaning you can choose your specialism from the get-go.

BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science
