About the Halls Living in University accommodation gives you the comfort of knowing you’re in a safe, well-maintained environment and in the perfect place to make friends for life. Lyon Street

The furthest away but still only 10 minutes’ walk from campus. It’s quiet, has free on-street public parking and there’s a large green space behind one of the buildings making it a perfect place to chill out. Bedrooms are divided into one, two and three-bed flats with each flat having shared kitchen and shower room facilities.

Meadowside Halls

The closest and a mere two minutes away. Meadowside has six or nine-bedroom flats with a large kitchen/living area. Each bedroom has its own personal shower room. Meadowside also has a ‘barrier-free’ flat for students with specific physical needs.

Parker House

Only a five minute walk from campus, each of the five and seven bedroom flats have personal shower rooms in every bedroom and shared large kitchen/living areas.

Victoria Chambers

Across the road from Meadowside and a short two-three minute walk from the main University building, Victoria Chambers has two, four, eight and sixteen bedroom flats. With a mix of shared and personal shower rooms, there are lots to choose from. Each flat has a shared kitchen and each floor has two shared kitchens.

DON’T MISS Our Library Tour Tours last 30 mins and leave from the foyer where you checked-in, in the Kydd building. They take place on the hour and every half hour between 14.30 - 17.00 The library is a hub of student life. It’s where you access extra online information about your course as well as timetables and library services. The Student Enquiry Zone is there (a one-stop shop) and the IT Training Suite.

10

Our Gym Come over to the gym to see the facilities and hear about the opportunities to participate in Sport at Abertay. It’s in the Graham Building on the ground floor. It’s open between 14.30 - 17.00 for tours. At Abertay, sport and physical activity is as much a part of university life as going to lectures and tutorials. We have a wide range of clubs to join – from traditional team sports like rugby, football and netball, to more niche sports, like triathlon and archery. The vast majority of Abertay sports clubs compete in the British University and College Sport (BUCS) leagues, where we have achieved a great deal of success in recent years. We also get involved in a lot of local and regional events, organised by Scottish Student Sport (SSS),

providing all club members plenty of opportunity to participate. The 2015/16 season was our most successful to date, with four BUCS titles, three SSS titles and a number of local league success stories. We also offer a wide range of non-competitive and recreational sport for those looking to enjoy the social side of club life. Our Elite Athlete Programme is dedicated to helping out national standard athletes combine their studies with sporting commitments. We have supported athletes competing at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships, in addition to helping many achieve national recognition in their sport. Have a look at abertay.ac.uk/student-life/sport/ clubs for up-to-date information on sport at Abertay.

11 11

Our Student Centre It’s directly opposite and steps from where you checked-in, in the Kydd building. Go and see it for yourself – just turn up. The Student Centre is the cultural and social hub of our campus and the perfect place to eat, relax and socialise. The striking building houses a host of great spaces, allowing you to spend your time between lectures however you choose.

12

On the ground floor Find the Campus Shop and Aroma, a cosy café.

On the first floor Find Bar One – a great place to eat, study or meet friends. There are pool tables, TVs playing music channels and a quiet place to study.

Unfortunately Bar One will be closed on 26th April as we prepare for the Abertay Digital Graduate Show.

In the basement Find the Common Room and basement bar for serious downtime. There are free access PCs, a plethora of games consoles, and a projector screen for communal gaming and film screenings. A DJ booth and massive sound system allow for social events, and a lot of the University’s clubs and societies use it as a home.

Unfortunately the Common Room and basement bar will be closed on 26th April as we prepare for the Abertay Digital Graduate Show.

On the top floor Find the Hannah Maclure Centre, a bespoke creative space. Digital Culture in computer games, digital media and computer arts is the core of the work often on display here. There’s also a cinema/performance space. 13

WHERE TO EAT/ WHAT TO SEE In the margins of your Applicant Day activities, you’ll find the Aroma Café and Bar One in the Student Centre (the building across the road from where you checked-in) very handy for a quick bite. There's also a coffee cart in the library. There’s also the very popular takeaway Brodies, just 50 yards from the University (out the main door where you checked-in and head left). Open week days only. If you’re from further afield and making a day of your trip, here’s some inspiration for places to eat and things to do in the local area. Go see some of them if you can – Dundee’s a great city with a spectacular location.
