Restaurant And Automated Meat Market

The project attempts to repurpose an old abandoned building called “cold storage” in Jayanagar, Bengaluru. The building has been abandoned for about 10+ Years and was earlier used to house a bank and a cold storage. The building structure is a voluminous space precast structure with concrete walls. However, the building is decadent, and parts of the roof are damaged. The project aims to repurpose the space into a marketplace and add a restaurant to make the building more lively. This is done by creating an automated modern meat market that reduces waste generation. The hotel is designed to open a view to the street and thus invite people in. A mezzanine floor is added using the support of existing columns to create a performance space. The cutouts and insertions done in the building will make the place more appealing. Surrounded by the Old modernist buildings of Jayanagar, this forgotten building will add a new landmark for the community and create a vibrant space.

Incorporating Social spaces into the design of the site would enhance the ambience of the whole place and Increase user count, reviving the lost character of the Jayanagar market.

The lack of street lights on the 10th main road makes this place dark and unsafe at night, so adding street lights and more social infrastructure will bring in the crowd and make the street active.

The addition of a metro line has increased accessibility, and the popularity of the Jayanagar shopping markets has made the area a commercial hub. Only three meat shops cater to the whole residence cluster, and no new types of restaurants are popping up.
