Restoring Decadent Parks Of Varanasi

The project attempts to change the 4 locations near Assi ghat of Varanasi. The park is well-lit with clear sightlines and discourages hiding places. Accessibility is considered through features such as level paths and ramps, which help women of all ages and abilities, including those with strollers, mobility issues, or other special needs. Comfortable seating areas are provided for socializing. Play areas for children are made visible from seating areas, and amenities such as restrooms, drinking fountains, and trash cans are made available. Incorporating natural elements such as trees, flowers, and gardens can enhance the experience of the park. Designing a park for women involves prioritizing safety, accessibility, comfort, and amenities to create a welcoming and enjoyable space for all.

During the day, many women are out and about in Kashi Khand, chatting, walking. But when the sun sets, they disappear. They return to the safety of their homes. The concept for this place is to transition this place where they can hang out for no apparent reason, but simply because they want to.

Provide Opportunities

Create opportunities for community members to use the space for events and activities, such as concerts, outdoor movie nights, or fitness classes. This can foster a sense of ownership by giving residents a stake in the space's success. A new pavement is added which extends from the walls to the buildings which acts as an extension of the park

Considering Accessibility

Ensure that the space is accessible and welcoming to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. This can include providing seating areas, accessible pathways, and ample lighting to create a safe and inviting environment.Remove existing walls and gates which makes accessibility an issue and create blind spots

Fostering A Sense Of Ownership

Incorporate elements into the design that promote a sense of ownership, such as community gardens, public art projects, or interactive installations. Giving opportunity for the children in the community to get together. Walls with greeneries which act as barriers between park and surroundings.

"When you own something, it has meaning and you take care of it. I think that's the great part about public space. If we can build ownership with the community, then you have engagement and very enjoyable spaces."
