Hair & Make-up moodboard
I like these three looks as they have pale, minimalistic and slightly natural looking make-up. I think the light brown, grey, white and gold colour’s would work well with the grey colour’s in my garment as well as with the location.
I looked on Pinterest and Google images for makeup and hair inspiration for my photo shoot. I like the masked look that is featured in these three images as it gives an almost machine like feeling. The use of black and white is striking. However this look is very strong and could take the attention away from my final garment.
I like this masked, distressed look as it creates a striking effect because of the black and white make-up that is faded and smudged slightly.
This is my favorite overall look for both hair and make-up because of the minimalist feel. I like how the hair is off the face but low at the back.
Final Hair and Make-up Look:
The French and fishtail plaited look is very effective and I think would work well with my garment, however my models hair may not be long enough to create the desired effect.
I like this hairstyle as it creates an interesting layered web effect.
For the final look for my make-up I used soft muted tones on the eyes that included, soft browns, gold’s and very pale pink. I didn’t use eyeliner, as I didn’t want any harsh lines around the eyes as I wanted a natural but glamorous look. A nude pink was used on the lips, and a lot of bronzer was used on the cheeks to exaggerate my models cheekbones and make her face look structured.
The hair was down but it was messily scraped back off the face by pinning it at the sides. I didn’t want the hair to be scraped back harshly off the face as I wanted a soft look that would fit well with the soft make-up.
Locations For my photo shoot I looked at two different locations. The first location was in a multi-story car park in the centre of town. I looked at this location because of the concrete walls, metal piping and views of other buildings in the city as I thought it would create a good industrial feel to my photos without taking away too much attention from my garment.
I like these two location photos because of the numbers on the wall, which creates a machine like industrial feeling to the location. I also like how the concrete walls break and you get a glimpse of the other buildings in the city. The different shades of the concrete create an interesting look to the location. Also I like how the ceiling is low so you can see the floor and ceiling in the same shot which creates a slightly closed in feeling.
I like this setting because of the concrete pillars and horizontal lines as well as the splash of yellow colour that contrasts against the grey of the concrete. This would be a good location if it weren’t for the parked cars that disrupt the background.
This is an interesting backdrop as it creates a focal point at the end and because you can see the ceiling and the floor.
The second location I looked at was outside the Civic Centre. I chose this location because of the different, interesting colours and textures of the architecture that would create a great location for my photo shoot.
This is a wall outside of the Civic Centre. I like this as a background because of the different shades of the stone tiles, and the vertical and horizontal lines.
Here are more images outside of the Civic Centre focusing on the vertical metal pillars that are set in to a semi-circle shape. I like this as a setting for my photo shoot because of the interesting shapes and lines that disrupt the backdrop in a subtle way. The metal pillars relate to the cogs and mechanics on the side of the textile mill machines.
I like this setting because of the different textures on the walls which creates a 3D shadowed effect. The colours are different shades of soft greys. However the lighting is too dark as its under a roof in a corner which creates a dark effect, so there is not enough natural light hitting the wall.
I find these two photos very striking and I think this would create a good location for my photo shoot. The lighting creates a dramatic effect, however it could be too dark to show off my garment. The mix between the cobbled and tiled floor is interesting. I like most the concave shaped low ceiling that is tiled in a red/brown colour, which creates a nice colour palette that would fit with the colour of my garment.
I think this would create a good location backdrop because of the dramatic lighting coming from the floor. The metal artwork has interesting textures and adds depth and layering to the photo as well as creating interesting shadows. The metal artwork creates an industrial like feeling that relates to my chosen industry of textiles as I think it looks slightly like textile bobbins from far away.
These images are of the metal artwork and lighting from different angles to see where the lighting falls and what shadows are created, to give me an idea what the overall look would be at this location. The lighting is very dark, but I like how you can see the marble pillars and concave ceilings, and the colours from the ceiling and lighting.
Test Shoot These are some of the un-edited photos from my test shoot outside the Civic Centre. I did a test shoot so that I could see which backgrounds worked best and also to see which lighting works best as well as seeing which poses show of the details of my garment.
I like the background in these images, however overall I don’t think it works well. The lighting isn’t flattering and I think the background is too busy and takes the attention away from my garment. Also the focus is slightly off.
I don’t like this as a location because the lighting is too dark. The background creates a blurry effect and doesn’t make my garment stand out.
I like the marble as a background as the colour fits in with the colours of my garment, however I don’t like that it creates a shiny background. The best pose to show off my garment is standing to the side so that you can see the back and the sleeves.
These are my favourite six photos from my test shoot.
These images are interesting because of the metal pillars that are in the foreground and background of the images. I like the shadows from the metal pillars as it creates a nice contrast against the vertical pillars. However I think the lighting is too bright on the models face and it creates dark shadows on my garment, which makes it harder to see the details on the sleeves and on the back.
I like these three images because I think the wall works well as a background to the image because of the different shades of greys and browns. I like the lighting in these images as it hits my garment in the right places to highlight the details on the sleeves and on the back. I also like how a shadow is on the wall that gives the images more depth and makes them more visually interesting.

Final Edits
I like the location of these four images with the metal pillars however I don’t like that you can see grass and trees in the background of the images as I feel it breaks up the over all image. I think the poses in these images are good and shows of the sleeve and back detail on my garment.
These four images are my favourite as I think everything works well together. The background is striking but does not take attention away from the subject of the photo. I think the hair and make-up compliments the model and works well as an over all look with my garment. I edited these images very slightly as I didn’t want an over-edited look. I wanted the images to look minimalist but with an edge.
I like these four images as they have an artistic feel about them. It is a slight blurry, distorted effect that I think works well with my garment because you can still see the detailing. The colour of the images works well as they are all within the same colour palette.
