Anna wave grips India; Gandhian calls for second freedom struggle
Gandhian leader Anna Hazare who was arrested on Tuesday morning refused to come out of Tihar Jail when the government ordered his release. Anna supporters said, “Anna has refused to come out of jail if the conditions about proposed protest are not removed. He has made it clear that he will not secure a release with conditions,” activist Kiran Bedi said. She said Mr Hazare was insisting that he be allowed to hold his protest without any conditions at Jai Prakash Narain Park or any other place like Jantar Mantar. Hazare was first detained and then arrested with the Government claiming that there was an apprehension of "breach of peace" if he was allowed to undertake his fast demanding that Team Anna's version of the anticorruption legislation called the Jan Lokpal Bill be introduced in Parliament. Hazare and seven of his supporters were later sent to seven days in judicial custody and taken to Tihar Jail after he refused to sign a bond undertaking not to violate Section 144 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.
